Theo's mouth hung open. Gwen could tell he was confused.
He repeated, "It comes to life?"
Gwen sighed. She braced herself, about ready to show Theo, when suddenly, he turned around with his hand on his temples and his eyes rounded. When he glanced back at Gwen, he looked horrified.
"A group of warriors are coming over to attack us," Theo revealed.
"You mean rogues?" Gwen asked.
"No," Theo gulped and replied, "It's Alpha Madlock of Ironwood Pack, the same alpha King Arthur had suspected of trying to kill him. They are here to attack Port Leon! They had already captured one of my scouts."
"What?" Gwen reacted, and her heart raced.
"I need to go, Gwen. As my scout has reported, they are coming in over a hundred men," Theo said while grabbing her arms. "I need you and Ian to stay with your parents. That way, you'll have more people protecting you."
"Wait. Over a hundred men?" Gwen clarified in a panic.
"Brody, Rollin, secure the borders!" Theo communicated to his warriors through mindlink. He grabbed Gwen's wrist as he exited his office, his eyes wandering and clearly searching for Ian.
"Son? I need you down here?" Theo called, and not a moment too soon, Ian came rushing down in his pajamas. "We need to leave, Ian!"
The drive to the hotel was intense. Theo kept mindlinking while Dunken was behind the wheel. Gwen could not find the right time to ask him about the severity of the threat. However, she recognized that the number of enemies was significant.
Theo did not have time to go to the hotel where Gwen's parents were. At the lobby, he kissed her goodbye and Ian. He said, "Don't come out. Wait for my return."
He glanced at Dunken, ordering, "Don't leave her out of your sight. Remember the last time that she was alone?"
After Dunken nodded, Theo returned to the car and dashed toward the border.
Minutes turned into hours. The skies had become dark, and the noises of horror grew louder. Gwen and her family were gathered in the hotel suite's living room. Dunken, who was guarding them, kept walking back and forth, sometimes eyeing the distant border from the balcony, clearly becoming edgy in every minute that passed.
"Dunken, talk to me," Gwen said. "'Tell me what's happening. As your luna, I demand to know!"
She wasn't going to use the "Luna" title, but she felt it was necessary to get an answer from the gamma.
Dunken's jaws tightened. He wavered but soon admitted, "We believe the Ironwood Pack is using a new kind of poison we have not encountered yet. Our men at the front of the fight had become weak after getting clawed or cut by their blades. Five of our men have already died. Many are in a critical condition."
"No! Daddy!" Ian cried.
"Gwen, are we supposed to do nothing? We have to help! This is not our pack, but we can't let Ian's father suffer," George suggested.
Gwen stared at Dunken and said, "We can help, Dunken."
"Alpha Theo is still fine. He had ordered everyone to avoid getting wounded. So, they have resorted to using any form of shields now," Dunken said. "Maybe I need to go and fight with them."
"I'll come with you, Baron offered. I can fight," Baron declared.
Jacob also presented himself, "I'll come along."
"I'm not an alpha for nothing," George said, puffing his chest. "I'm fighting."
"I want to fight too!" Ian declared.
"No!" Juliet and Gwen said the same thing at the same time.
Gwen leveled with her son, saying, "I know you are a brave boy, but you can't fight this battle yet."
While Dunken was deciding what to do, she quickly went into her mother's room and drew blood. Juliet only had two syringes, but she hoped it was enough to save the critically wounded warriors.
When she returned to the living room, Dunken announced, "The enemies have broken through the border. Everyone needs to be evacuated to the bunker fast."
"A bunker?" Gwen inquired.
"Yes, Alpha Theo had one built after the attack that made us believe you were dead," Dunken said. "We need to hurry."
They all left the hotel quickly. When they arrived at the bunker, Dunken assured Gwen, "Luna, other warriors are here to protect you and Ian. I suppose I can leave you here."
"And we are coming with you," George declared. He turned to Jacob and ordered, "But Jacob is staying with you."
Although Dunken had assured us that backup warriors were coming from other territories like the Blue Valley Pack, Gwen's father insisted on joining the fight. So, they left in a hurry with Baron. Her brother, Baron, brought the two syringes of blood.
The underground shelter was massive—practically the entire size of a gymnasium. However, that was just an initial assessment. Gwen saw warriors climbing down a staircase, which meant there was another level!
On the way, Gwen remembered that the bunker was near the hospital. Gwen could see that some patients had been brought in, so she quickly realized that the king might already be there.
"Doctor Weneth! Doctor!" Gwen snapped her head in one direction and finally saw Beta Ivor.
"Beta Ivor, where is the king?" Gwen asked.
"He was given a designated room on the lower ground floor," Beta Ivor reported. "Gwen, I think I need to help. Alpha Theo had never felt the need to use the bunker. The attack is something bigger. A few of the enemies had slipped into the hospital."
The king's beta looked around before whispering, "They were looking for the king."
Upon hearing the report, Gwen's skin formed goosebumps. She said, "Could they have come here for him?"
"They could still be after you, so I wanted you to stay with the king. I will leave two of my men with him before I join Theo at the border," Beta Ivor said, and Gwen nodded.
Gwen guided Ian to follow Beta Ivor. Jacob and Juliet tailed behind her. They quickly found the room assigned to the king. When they entered, King Arthur looked at Gwen with regret, saying, "This is my fault. Now, Port Leon is in danger. I knew it was Alpha Madlock!"
"Don't worry, My King. I have also contacted allied packs to come to our help. I'm sure Theo's men can withstand while waiting. They are not the best warriors of Northern Alfar for nothing," Beta Ivor said before bowing and asking permission. "May I join Alpha Theo's men, Your Highness?"
"Go and help," King Arthur said. Guilty in his expression, he glanced at Ian and ordered his beta, "Make sure nothing happens to Alpha Theo."
Through the small glass window of King Arthur's temporary room in the bunker, Gwen spotted Beta Ivor and a few of his men weaving through the crowd of pack members. Surprisingly, she recognized a familiar face, one she had not expected to be part of the relocation.
Gwen frowned and hissed, "Madison."

"Hurry up! Set up the traps! Backup is bound to come, and we cannot let that happen!" A rogue leader commanded.
Unknown to Port Leon and Alpha Theo, their rogue group was working with Alpha Madlock in this attack. It was a partnership that had long been established to seize control of Northern Alfar. While warriors from Ironwood Pack penetrate into Port Leon, their group's goal was stop help from going in.
Their orders? To kill the king, kill Alpha Theo, and take the Miracle Doctor!
