                    ~ Gwen ~
“What is Madison doing here?” Gwen asked one of Theo’s warriors.
“Doctor, Luna, I mean,” the warrior said. He wasn’t one of those who knew Gwen well, so the poor warrior hesitated on what to call her. “We don’t have anywhere else to take them for safety. Plus, her parents and her aunt are with her.”
Gwen nodded. She understood the need to bring Madison over. Only that, she wasn’t comfortable knowing they were under the same roof.
When Gwen turned on her heel to return to the room, she winced. She immediately felt Theo was in pain! She called, “Theo?”
Her heart was aching so much she couldn’t breathe.
Now, she regretted not being part of Theo’s pack. How could she mindlink with him now? From where she stood, she closed her eyes and wished their mate bond was enough for her to reach out to him. She said, “Theo, are you okay?”
She looked around, hoping to spot someone who could easily tell her what Theo’s condition was, and very quickly, she locked eyes with Caroline.
“Caroline!” Gwen called.
“Gwen!” Caroline said at the same time.
They ran to each other, and Caroline said, “Theo was hit! They were targeting him. I need to go and help!”
“Wait!” Gwen called. “I’m coming with you.”
“Oh, no. My brother would kill me if anything happens to you,” Caroline said.
“Caroline, I can help cure him. I’m not a miracle doctor for nothing!” Gwen declared. “If anything happens to Theo, I’ll die!”
Caroline hesitated but eventually said, “Fine, but try not to get hurt!”
Gwen returned to the king’s room, finding Ian crying. The pup said, “Mommy, Daddy is hurt! I know Daddy is hurt. You have to help him, Mommy! You have to.”
Juliet and Gwen looked at each other. Gwen told her mother, “I have to go, Mom.”
She looked back and explained, “Caroline will be with me.”
“Well, if you are going, I’m going,” Jacob suggested.
“If you must go, Doctor, don’t worry. My warriors are here to keep your mother and Ian safe,” King Arthur suggested.
Gwen mindlinked with Juliet, ‘Mom, the wounded might be brought here for medical care or the hospital -’
‘I will figure it out,’ Juliet said. ‘I’ll try to help as much as possible.’
Of course, her mother was skilled in practicing medicine. Juliet’s blood could also heal others, though it was less potent. Gwen’s blood worked faster to restore one’s health and vitality. Still, when many warriors were injured, any cure was better than none.
Take care, Mom,” Gwen said before hugging her son goodbye.
As they walked past the crowd, Jacob said aloud, “I should drop by the packhouse to get some medical supplies.”
‘There were two bottles of the Monk fruit sweeteners there,’ Jacob linked Gwen.
“But I want to go to Theo,” Gwen said. “Go to the packhouse and link with me so you can catch up.”
The bunker was fully guarded. After the warriors allowed them to exit, Jacob took a separate route. Gwen and Caroline were about to run for it when another one called their attention.
“I can fight! Let me come with you!” Caroline and Gwen turned to find Madison.
She was taking deep breaths while being blocked by the warriors. One of the guards said, “You are supposed to be a prisoner. Stay inside!”
“But I can help!” Madison stared at Caroline, saying, “Caroline, I can fight. I can help!”
Gwen and Caroline looked at each other, but ultimately, they were on the same page. Caroline said, “Stay back here, Madison, and if we need help, I’ll ask the guards to let you out!”
“Caroline!” Madison objected. She tried to free herself from the warriors guarding the bunker’s exit, but she was no matched to three male guards who were holding her back.
Ignoring Madison, Caroline, and Gwen shifted into their wolf forms and ran under the dark skies.
“Wow,” Caroline said. “Theo said you had a purple wolf, but damn.”
Gwen was catching up with Caroline. She looked down at herself, saying, “Technically, I’m white, but I glow in purple. It’s just so obvious now because it’s dark.”
“Does it have something to do with your eyes?” Caroline asked. “Nevermind. We can talk about it later, after the fight.”
Gwen nodded in her wolf form. She dashed like the wind with Caroline until they reached the hospital, where they first encountered an enemy.
“Incoming!” Caroline announced. She sprinted ahead of Gwen and lunged at an adversary.
“Caroline, be careful! Their claws are laced with poison!” Gwen screamed.
Thankfully, Caroline was very precise. She managed to climb on top of the enemy’s back and sink her canines into its flesh. She clawed him and swung him from side to side until he was completely lifeless.
“Watch out, Caroline!” Gwen screamed, seeing another opponent running toward Theo’s sister.
Gwen leaped through the air, shifting back into her human form and summoning her blade before slashing through her enemies’ flesh. The opponent’s agonizing howl was unmistakable, catching Caroline’s attention. She looked up just in time to see Gwen return the blade to her arm.
When the opponent landed lifeless on the ground, Caroline’s mouth hung open. She asked, “How did you do that?”
“I’ll tell you later. Let’s go,” Gwen said.
They raced again. They encountered another adversary who had made it past the border, but with Gwen and Caroline working together, they eliminated the hazard.
They had almost reached the main entrance, where the big fight was happening, when another opponent appeared out of nowhere, attacking Caroline first.
Caroline immediately became engaged in a fight. Gwen was ready to help her when someone suddenly grabbed her tail and firmly pulled her back.
Gwen growled. Her eyes glowed in anger. When she turned to whoever was behind her, she realized it was Madison! “Madison? How did you -”
Madison suddenly shifted into her wolf. Then she attempted to claw Gwen, saying, “I needed to get out and take care of you once and for all!”
Gwen leaped back. She turned to her right and noticed that Caroline was too engaged in her fight that she had not noticed Madison’s arrival.
“What? Looking for someone to save you,” Madison asked before she laughed. “No one is going to save you. Today, you will die.”
Madison attempted to leap above her, but Gwen shifted into her human form and swiveled in another direction. She quickly transformed into her wolf, knowing that she needed strength to fight Madison.
“You really are an abomination! You are purple and useless! You only claim to be a miracle doctor!” Madison growled, saying, “Well, I haven’t seen your miracle, Doctor!”
Gwen was utterly surprised at Madison’s behavior. She sounded so vicious that she did not recognize her! Gritting her teeth, Gwen declared, “Well, after I am done with you, Madison, you’ll need a miracle!”
“I hate you!” Madison crouched low before quickly running forward in fury, and before Gwen knew it, their paws clashed. Each of them sustained wounds.
Gwen returned to her human form. She was about to call out her blade, but as she was stepping back, she stumbled on a dead body! Gwen fell on her back, and Madison quickly pounced on her.
“Haha! You are a pathetic one! How can you be the Luna? Is that what you call a fight? Haha! You don’t deserve to be a luna! Never!” Still in her wolf form, Madison hissed while lowering her fangs into Gwen’s face. She said, “You don’t know how much I have worked so hard to get you kicked out of this pack, but you had to ruin it!”
“I was supposed to be the Luna! Theo and I loved each other! You and Agatha destroyed my dreams! I took care of her, and now, I’ll take care of you!” Madison added. “I could never forget the look on Agatha’s face before she died. She said I would never become the luna and that fate had other plans for you and Theo.”
An ominous laugh escaped Madison’s lips as she added, “Well, since you are about to die, when you meet Agatha in heaven, do send my regards and ask her if she had foreseen how you died in my hands!”
“You!” Suddenly, the image of the late Agatha Sanger flashed in her head. Gwen screamed at Madison, “You are going to pay!”
