~ Gwen ~
‘What did she say?’ Gwen thought silently. ‘Agatha did not die of natural causes? How did it happen? How could Theo have missed it?’
Gwen felt her entire body became ablaze with rage.
Agatha was the one person who had cared for Gwen in the past, the only person who gave her hope. So, the elder’s death truly broke her heart.
Tears stung her eyes upon learning the truth as she stared into Madison’s wolf. She screamed, “You are going to pay!”
She tried to wiggle free, but it angered Madison. The latter yelled, “Stop it! Stop! Let me kill you first -Ahh!”
Fortunately for Gwen, Caroline came to her rescue, scratching Madison on her back. While in her wolf form, Caroline questioned, “Did I hear you right, Madison? Did you have something to do with Agatha’s death?”
“So what!” Madison had leaped backward. She barked, “You and Theo were relieved she was gone. It was our chance to get rid of Gwen! Don’t you remember?”
“We can still do it, Caroline! We can still get rid of Gwen, once and for all! Let’s kill her together. Theo would never know!” Madison suggested.
Gwen was still getting up on her feet during their confrontation. She heard Caroline scream, “No! Look what you have done, Madison? You have become like the person we hated - Lucius! How could you kill Agatha!”
““I can’t let you hurt Gwen! My brother had suffered enough after Gwen left,” Caroline added.
“But what about me? I love Theo!” Madison screamed. “I have done many things for him - to be with him!”
“Things that are wrong!” Caroline voiced. “To the point that you had sent Raul to kill Gwen?”
Madison growled. She flashed her fangs and declared, “Then, you stand in the way of what I want, Caroline! I’ll have to deal with you!”
In a flash, Madison attacked Caroline! Their claws clashed, and they repeatedly attempted to bite each other.
Caroline suddenly crouched in pain. When Gwen studied Theo’s sister, she realized Caroline’s leg had been bitten!
“Caroline!” Gwen called. And at that very moment, she felt Theo’s pain again. She looked behind her, desperately searching for Theo.
“Stay back, Gwen. Go and look for Theo. I think he needs you,” Caroline urged.
Gwen tried to flee, but she was also concerned for Caroline. She figured the best way to deal with this situation was to use her moonstone blade.
“What are you still doing here, Gwen?” Caroline barked while defending herself from Madison’s advances.
“I can’t just leave you!” Gwen screamed, trying to find an opening. Madison had thrust Caroline a meter away from her at one point, so Gwen shifted into her wolf form and ran toward Madison.
Madison laughed at her. She questioned, “Really? Do you dare challenge me? Haha!”
She mocked Gwen before advancing with the intent to kill. What Madison did not expect, however, was for Gwen to return to her human form and glide under her wolf.
While beneath Madison, Gwen drew out her moonstone blade and sliced through Madison’s chest. By the time Gwen’s body had slid out of Madison’s frame, the latter was already screaming.
“What - Ahh! What the fuck was that?” Madison transformed into her human shape, holding her chest with her hands. Her eyes rounded in horror as she repeated, “How - how did you do that?”
From the corner of Gwen’s eyes, she saw Caroline in shock. Obviously, Caroline had seen her moonstone blade. Gwen could only imagine the amount of questions in Caroline’s head, but right now, she still had to deal with Madison.
“I’m not a weakling that you think I am. I can fight you, Madison!” Gwen declared.
Madison was already bleeding. She kept holding her chest tightly as she stumbled back. Then, she looked around, screaming, “Help! Help! I’m pregnant with Theo’s child, but Gwen attacked me! Help!”
Gwen was aghast! She could not believe the words that were leaving Madison’s lips!
“What the fuck, Madison! You started it first!” Caroline barked.
“Gwen! Gwen!” Out of nowhere, Theo appeared from the nearby trees, running in human form. “Gwen, there you are!”
Seeing Theo, Madison quickly changed her demeanor and approached him, “Theo! Theo, Gwen attacked me! She wanted to kill your child, so she attacked me - Ahhh! Theo!”
“I saw you! You were fighting with Caroline, and Gwen only tried to help her!” Theo snarled after slapping Madison in the face. He quickly shifted into his wolf form and thrust his paws back, ready to slice through Madison’s frame.
“No! Theo!” Madison curled into a ball, reminding him, “I might be pregnant! You’ll kill the pup!”
Theo’s paws hung midair. He huffed and said, “Don’t you think I would not know? How you were fucking Raul, and you were planning to pin your pregnancy on me?”
Gwen gasped. And behind her, she heard Caroline react the same way.
“How disgusting!” Caroline barked. “Madison, I can’t believe how despicable you are! To think I trusted, supported, and even helped you!”
“Theo, she should be punished!” Caroline cried. “I also overheard how she had killed Agatha!”
“What?” Theo growled. His fangs lengthened as he declared, “Then, she should just die!”
“No!” Gwen stopped him. She said, “She needs to suffer. Death is too easy.”
Gwen returned her moonstone blade back to her arm. She said, “I know what to do.”
“What are you doing? Stay away from me!” Madison yelped as she scrambled away from Gwen.
“Theo, hold her down for me,” Gwen ordered, and Theo quickly shifted into his human form to force Madison to the ground.
After finding an opportunity, Gwen punched Madison on her abdominal brain. As a doctor, she knew precisely where to target to induce unconsciousness, just as she had done with Raul. Within seconds, Madison blacked out.
“She is eventually going to die from bleeding, Gwen,” Theo said.
“I’ll take care of it,” Gwen said. She bit her finger and gave Madison a drop of her blood. “This will keep her alive, but not enough to get back on her feet.
After openly showing Theo how she gave Madison her blood, Theo stared at her intently. She returned his gaze, and very quickly, realization dawned on Theo. He cussed, “Wait. Fuck!” He took a full turn and said, “Fuck. Your blood? Why didn’t you tell me sooner, Gwen?”
With a nod, Gwen softly answered, “Yes. I did not want you to find out this way. We were supposed to finish our talk, but the attack happened.”
There was still chaos around them, but it was important to cover what Theo and Caroline had discovered about her. So Gwen explained, “The moonstone blade and my blood are part of my unique ability. My blood can heal others. That was how I became a miracle doctor.”
“But if that’s the case,” Theo said. “People could - others could abuse it.”
Gwen confirmed, “Yes, that’s why my family and I keep it a secret. I can only extract so much blood from myself. Too much of it could also potentially kill me.”
“Fuck, then, no one can know!” Theo declared. He turned to his sister and ordered, “Caroline, no one can know about this!”
Caroline was already in her human form, barely standing. She responded, “I won’t say a thing, Theo! I already swore to you and Gwen that I would support you.”
After getting that out of the way, Theo quickly embraced Gwen. He said, “You know what this means, right? I’m going to have to protect you all my life. I was so worried about you. Why did you leave the bunker? I felt you were in trouble!”
“Caroline and I sense you were in pain, so I had to come and find you,” Gwen revealed while hugging Theo back.
“But I’m fine.” Theo kissed Gwen’s forehead. He pulled away and revealed, “I was wounded. About twenty warriors came after me at once, and even after Brody and the other had tried to block their attacks, they persisted.”
He repeatedly nodded, declaring, “They went after me first. They wanted me dead, but many of them died instead - Ah! Fuck!”
Theo pressed against his abdomen, and Gwen saw the claw mark in the exact location. She studied him further and saw other wounds, but the other serious one was on his right leg—another claw mark.
“Sit down first,” Gwen commanded.
After Theo squatted on the ground, she gave him her finger. He sucked on her blood without hesitating.
“So, it looks like they are using poison again, but don’t worry. This will make you feel better, even just for a little.” Gwen assured Theo.
When Gwen had given Theo her blood, she did the same to Caroline.
Theo’s sister then lay on the ground, taking deep breaths. At that moment, Theo revealed, “Whatever poison the enemies are using, it has not affected your brother and your father. They were the ones who helped me get past the enemies so that I could come looking for you.”
Hearing Theo’s account, Gwen frowned. She remarked, “Then, it must be a poison we are immune to.”
‘Gwen? Gwen, where are you?’ Out of nowhere, Gwen heard Jacob link with her.
“Jacob?” She looked around, detailing her location. It only took a few minutes for Jacob to turn up, holding a jar of Monk fruit sweetener and several syringes.
“What took you so long, Jacob?” Gwen asked.
“I ran into some enemies,” Jacob revealed.
“Well, your arrival is just perfect,” Theo said. It had only been about ten minutes, and he was back on his feet again. He declared, “I have had enough rest. I need to finish this.”
“But Theo,” Gwen objected. “You are still wounded -”
“My people need me. I have to be in front of all this, Gwen. I am the alpha,” Theo insisted.
Gwen gasped. She clenched her jaws and said, “I’m coming with you.”
