“Theo, watch out! Duck!” As soon as Baron gave the instruction, Theo crouched down. An arrow suddenly flew across the air, hitting one of the enemies.
After Theo saw the foe’s lifeless body pinned to a tree and Baron’s arrow vanishing, he glanced back at Gwen’s brother, saying, “Thank you.”
Baron nudged his chin slightly, saying, “You are welcome.”
Menacing growls echoed around Theo. It was still nighttime, but the moonlight’s glow seemed brighter as if guiding the warriors of Port Leon through the fight.
Four hours had already passed since the initial attack, and finally, they were slowly gaining an advantage, and it was all thanks to Baron, Alpha George, Jacob, and, of course, Gwen.
Because they were unaffected by the poison their adversaries used, all four joined the main battle lineup, fighting at the front alongside Theo, Brody, Dunken, and Rollin.
What made Gwen and her group even more formidable was their ability to summon weapons seemingly from within their own bodies, using them at will and retracting them just as easily.
Theo knew this power was meant to be kept secret, but with so many lives on the line, Gwen and her family revealed their abilities without hesitation. At first, this alarmed their attackers—and even Theo’s warriors were stunned. Eventually, though, the fighters of Port Leon put their questions aside and focused on the remarkable advantage this gave them.
Their unique abilities were mindblowing!
Gwen, Theo’s mate, had a badass weapon that was so sharp that, given she was holding her blade right, it could easily penetrate through a werewolf’s body. It usually did not take more than four assaults from Gwen to kill her attackers.
As for Baron, he had a bow and arrow. Jacob had hand-hidden blades that he could quickly throw into his opponent and puncture them.
Alpha George wielded a unique chain. Though it looked harmless at first glance, Theo had once seen an enemy try to break it, only to die in the attempt. The chain seemed indestructible!
Alpha George often used it to snap necks or trap his opponents, leaving them at a severe disadvantage.
“Arghh!” Gwen screamed from Theo’s left side, and he snapped in her direction. Relief washed over him, seeing her in her human form, stabbing one enemy with her blade.
“I can’t fucking believe it,” Brody remarked from a distance. “The Luna can fight.”
“Yes, surprisingly. I guess that time Gwen was attacked by rogues, she was just at a disadvantage because she was outnumbered,” Theo noted.
It wasn’t just Brody. Many of his warriors had seen Gwen fight back-to-back with Theo. Since his mate refused to leave him, she fought with him. It was also a perfect way for Theo to keep an eye on Gwen.
Yet, although he had to see Gwen’s capability, Theo was still protective of her. He often watched her and demanded that she stay within ten meters of him.
“Theo, your mate is indeed gifted. I hope you will take care of her this time that she has returned to your side,” Beta Ivor remarked. He led the second line of warriors in the existing fight.
Beta Ivor and his group of warriors soon took their turn at the front, battling. This allowed Theo and the others to rest. At that point, Jacob unexpectedly yelled, “I found a sample of the poison!”
Gwen received a bottle of a strange liquid. She smiled and said, “Why does it smell familiar?”
George walked closer to them and took a whiff of the poison. His eyes suddenly rounded, and he said, “No. This was a poisonous plant that had gone extinct in Southern Alfar.”
His eyes narrowed as he revealed, “If I am not mistaken, this was the same poison Janice had initially used against the children she killed.”
“What?” Gwen asked in shock. “Is Janice involved in this?”
“We don’t know yet, but at least we know how to get the poison out,” George was linking with his wife in the next few minutes. After a while, he told Theo, “The antidote is straightforward. It can already be found in drugs that had been introduced to the werewolf community.”
After Theo received the list of drugs, he mindlinked the doctors at the hospital. Before he knew it, they were already mixing the antidote.
Theo also received news that their allied forces needed help reaching Port Leon due to rogues. He called his contacts outside Port Leon’s borders to inform them of the poison’s antidote, hoping it would help them gain an advantage.
~ Gwen ~
“We surrender! We surrender!” Six unknown warriors from the enemy’s side kneeled before Theo and Gwen. They begged for their lives.
“Please, don’t kill us.”
“We will tell you everything that we know.”
“Spare us!”
The sun was rising, and finally, the backup from the other territories made it through. Port Leon was winning the fight.
The warriors from Ironwood Pack may have attacked in great numbers and had even collaborated with the rogues, but they did not have the uniqueness of the purple-eyed pack’s abilities, and they did not have the strength and perseverance as Theo and his men.
So, little by little, the remaining living adversaries surrendered.
“Rollin, Dunken. Chain them with silver!” Theo commanded.
Gwen stared at whatever was left at the front border of Port Leon. It was a complete mess. Aside from seeing so much blood, many trees had been broken. Cars were smashed, and of course, there were still bodies lying around.
But while it was such a heartbreaking scene, the fact that no more hostiles were coming gave Gwen immense relief. Exhaustion quickly came in as she leaned into Theo. She said, “Theo, I’m so tired.”
Theo quickly embraced her. He pecked her forehead before carrying her in his arms. He said, “You did great. Gwen. I’m proud of you. The entire pack is proud of you and how you fought well.”
Gwen smiled. She felt her awareness leaving her, but knowing she was in Theo’s hold, she let go.
The sun’s rays hit Gwen’s face. She blinked and gasped for air. When her eyes finally opened, she realized that she was in the hospital!
Immediately, she jerked awake. She snapped in every direction, and thankfully, she found Theo.
“Gwen!” Theo called. He immediately embraced her, saying, “Thank the goddess you have awoken. You have been asleep for two full days.”
“Two full days? How did that happen?” Gwen weakly asked. “Ian? Theo, how is Ian?”
“He’s safe. Your parents are with Ian at the packhouse. Port Leon is secure now, and additional warriors have arrived to maintain the pack’s protection,” Theo shared. “Baron is also safe.”
“And Jacob?” Gwen asked.
Theo sighed. He revealed, “There is, um - there is a problem with Jacob.”
“What’s the problem?” Gwen inquired, her chest immediately becoming heavy.
Again, Theo gasped for air. He said, “Gwen, after the attack, we cleared the area. Jacob encountered a she-wolf from the Ironwood Pack. This she-wolf had attacked one of my warriors, and Jacob used his weapon. He threw all of his hand-hidden blades at her, and she died.”
Gwen could not understand the problem. She clarified, “And? I’m confused, Theo. Jacob is alive, right?”
Theo nodded and shared, “He is alive. However, by killing the she-wolf, he ended up killing his own fated mate. He found out too late that the enemy was his fated mate.”
Gwen gasped in horror. “No... No!”
