~ King Arthur ~
“Tell me! Tell me why?” Arthur was enraged. He did not bother to care about the surrounding warriors watching him.
He seized Hazel by the throat, his grip tightening like a vice as he cut off her breath with unrelenting force.
“Tell me!” He instructed. “I, your alpha king, demand to know the truth! I command you!”
He released her neck, leaving Hazel choking and coughing. As Arthur repeated his command, she lifted her gaze to him, struggling to keep the words from slipping out.
“I command you to tell me why you betrayed me! Now!” Arthur screamed. His voice was so dominant, and his alpha aura seemed to have created suffocating air around the Lilac Pack. Even Arthur felt the air around him become chilling. “It’s useless to try and fight it because it’s over Hazel. Everything is over for you!”
From the corner of Arthur’s eyes, he saw the step out of the house that accommodated him. Juliet and George followed behind him. Many other warriors observed his wrath as he forced the truth out of Hazel.
“No, please,” Hazel begged while tears began to fall down her face. “I am your queen!”
“A queen does not betray his king! Speak! Now!” Arthur said. He shrieked so loud that it echoed in through the morning air.
“Ahh!” Hazel screamed, and her body stiffened as if her frame was in such pain while attempting to go against Arthur’s alpha command. Her jaws tightened as she admitted, “I - I did not mean to betray you. I found my fated mate, and I could not resist the pull.”
Yes, Arthur and Hazel were not fated. They had chosen to be with each other.
“Who is your fated mate?” Arthur already had an inkling of who her fated mate was, but he wanted to hear it directly from Hazel. “Who!”
“M-” Hazel’s lips quivered as she replied, “Madlock.”
“Did you poison me?” Arthur asked, and he repeated when she tried to oppose her command. “Did you poison me!”
“Y -yes - Ahh!” Arthur slapped her again. His hand shook in anger.
“All because of Alpha Madlock! A mere alpha, one that is beneath me!” Arthur screamed. “How did you do it? How did you keep it a secret for such a long time?”
Hazel shook her head. She tried to deny his command, but Arthur could tell she was in so much pain. Eventually, Hazel admitted, “Victoria Ashford is not my mother. She is a witch who has been helping me all these years. She gains profit from all my monetary gains -”
“You mean the underground laboratory in Borealis?” Arthur asked, shocking Hazel.
“How - how did you know?” Hazel now clearly realized it was pointless to lie. With her under the alpha’s command, she was compelled to speak the truth.
“I had my people follow you the last time we spoke,” Arthur revealed. “Your actions were already getting too suspicious. You wanted to be with me but couldn’t stay in Port Leon, and you seem uncaring for my well-being.”
“Apparently, you wanted me dead, and you were afraid to be discovered by your sister, Juliet,” Arthur muttered. “What other secrets are you hiding?”
“I have a question for her!” Alexander’s voice rang out as he suddenly appeared within the pack grounds. Though he arrived late, he had been the first to send aid to the Lilac Pack. It was, in fact, Alexander’s royal guards who had relocated the small pack’s residents before Theo and the others arrived to set the trap.
Before Theo and George flew to Southern Alfar, they received intel that local criminals were scouting the location of the Lilac Pack. Alexander had also confirmed the arrival of an unregistered jet into his nation. This supplemented Caroline’s claims that the Ironwood Pack planned to visit Southern Alfar.
After putting two and two together, they were able to protect the members of the Lilac Pack. Arthur flew to Southern Alfar just that morning after discovering that his wife was behind the attack.
“What question do you have for Hazel?” Arthur asked his brother.
Alexander walked closer to Hazel and asked, “How were you able to lie when my father used his alpha command on you? What really were your intentions between me and my brother?”
Dead air fell upon them. It was a question that even Arthur feared to face. After all, he had believed his wife for many years, which had created a rift between him and his brother and even divided the nation.
“It was a matter of answering the question,” Hazel laughed. “And I answered it truthfully.”
“The questions did not reveal my true objective. Your father had asked back then if I had slept with Alexander, to which I replied that I did not know. When your father interrogated me, I truly simply wanted Alexander to back down on the fight for the crown, only that the liquor had affected us in ways I had not anticipated,” Hazel explained. “That was how I eluded your father’s judgment.”
“But what were your true intentions then?” Arthur asked bitterly.
“I just wanted to be with the brother who would become king! Who would have thought that your father would agree to divide the nation!” Hazel admitted, still under the control of Arthur’s alpha command.
“So you never loved me,” Arthur asked through gritted teeth, guilt consuming him in every second that passed.
“I did,” Hazel answered. “For some time, I did... until I met Madlock during my visits to his pack. Everything completely changed.”
“Why did you want to attack the Lilac Pack?” Suddenly, Juliet stepped closer, asking. Her eyes were full of anger as she inquired, “Did you - did you have anything to do with the massacre that happened thirty years ago?”
Arthur’s eyes rounded upon hearing what Juliet had suggested. He turned to his wife and asked the same. After fully enforcing his alpha command, Hazel admitted, “Yes. I had ordered that attack.”
Juliet’s hands clenched into fists. She asked, “Did you have Gwen kidnapped?”
“Did you have anything to do with it?” Arthur repeated.
“Yes,” Hazel answered.
“How did Gwen end up in Lucius’ pack?” Arthur asked.
“I - I gave Gwen to Lucius. I asked him to raise her and test her abilities-” Hazel’s words were interrupted.
Juliet filled in the words for her, “One day, you were planning to use Gwen, weren’t you!”
“So, what!” Hazel reacted. “She should be thankful. I gave her a life outside our cursed pack - Ahhh!”
Juliet closed in and slapped Hazel. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she pointed out, “You let Lucius beat her up again and again. You made my daughter miserable for many years! How could you say she was better off?”
“You’ll pay for what you did to Gwen, and you’ll pay for all your sins!” Juliet declared while pointing a finger at Hazel.
“I will pay?” Hazel echoed, her eyes looking mischievous. She glared at Juliet and barked, “If I go down, you and your fucking pack will go down with me!”
At the top of her lungs, Hazel suddenly revealed, “I belong to the same pack as Juliet, yes, but we do not call ourselves the Lilac Pack. In truth, we are the Purple-Eyed Pack! We have unique abilities that everyone should make use of! We have hid ourselves from the world and lived in secrecy!”
“Stop it!” Juliet said while trying to cover Hazel’s mouth, but her sister suddenly bit her hand and continued to speak.
“All of us could use weapons from within our bodies, just like the blades you had seen from last night’s fight. And there’s more - Ahh!” Before Arthur realized it, Theo had punched Hazel in the face.
“Shut up! Shut the fuck up, woman! You have done enough harm to Gwen!” Theo screamed, delivering another blow to Hazel’s face. He did not stop until she fell unconscious.
Seeing how Theo reacted, Arthur could not help but ask, “What is she talking about, Theo? Can’t you trust your own king to help protect Gwen?”
“I ask the same,” Alexander asked, glancing at Juliet and then at George. “Am I not worthy to be entrusted with this truth?”
