~ Theo ~
“Daddy!” Ian screamed, his arms raised towards Theo. “I missed you!”
“You made it,” Theo said the second he held Ian in his arms. “I missed you, Bud. I’m glad to see you again.”
Theo kissed his pup’s head and face before turning to his mate, giving her the same affection, and said, “I missed you.”
“I missed you too, Theo. I’m glad you are safe,” Gwen said with a smile.
The sun shone brightly, casting shadows on Cada airport’s busy tarmac. Theo quickly guided his family to the side, where another plane provided shade from the heat.
It had been four days since they had captured Hazel and her men. Theo and his warriors were supposed to return to Northern Alfar, but King Arthur and King Alexander’s questions left an unsettled concern.
George and Juliet knew they could no longer hide the truth from the kings. The least they could do was make them understand. Hence, they had asked Gwen and Ian to return to Southern Alfar and the rest of the family, including Jacob and Brody.
Caroline traveled with them too, because she was Jacob’s new mate. She had to know everything.
Of course, leaving Northern Alfar had to be planned with precision. Most of Theo’s warriors had to return first and secure Port Leon. Beta Ivor had to finish his business in Borealis and a lot more.
There was news of Alpha Madlock fleeing from his pack, and many of his warriors followed his lead. It was worse than the previous situation. If Alpha Madlock were within his pack, at least Theo and King Arthur had eyes and ears on him. However, with him going MIA, anything could happen.
“Were any of our people hurt?” Gwen asked.
“No,” Theo answered. “King Alexander relocated all civilians in secret before Hazel and her group attacked. Only your father’s best warriors joined the fight, and they weren’t gravely harmed.”
“I still can’t believe it,” Caroline muttered behind them. She had rushed down the plane, followed by Jacob and Brody. “The Queen - I -” She shook her head and implied, “So much betrayal. I bet the king was devastated.”
“He is heartbroken,” Theo revealed. “And he has so many questions. That is why -”
Glancing at Gwen, Theo explained, “That is why he wants more answers about your pack, so he can better understand.”
“What is all this secrecy about your pack, Gwen, Jacob?” Caroline asked. “Is it because of your abilities?”
“Mostly.” Jacob held Caroline’s hand and said, “But we will explain everything once we arrive at the Lilac Pack.”
“So, the Lilac Pack is your pack, right?” Caroline asked, clearly testing Jacob.
When Jacob wavered, Caroline said, “I sense you are not telling me everything.”
Baron, Gwen’s brother, rolled his eyes. He grumbled, “I’m glad I did not find my mate in another country.”
“Well, you did not find your mate within our pack, either, so there is no telling who your mate is,” Jacob teased.
“Then, in order to protect our pack, I will only choose to marry from within,” Baron muttered.
“Well, we can talk about that later,” Alpha George suddenly approached them. They were within the airport’s private runway, designated for private jets. George had been waiting inside the car, but Theo supposed he needed to join their discussion. “Right now, we have to agree, as a family, what to tell the kings.”
When they arrived at the Lilac pack, they discussed everything with Juliet and George behind closed doors. Caroline was shocked, especially after learning the details of Queen Hazel being Juliet’s sister. Baron was reluctant, but ultimately, they agreed they needed to trust the kings. Hence, they all faced King Arthur and Alexander the next day.
~ King Arthur ~
Arthur and Alexander waited patiently for George and Juliet’s decision for the past few days.
Their unique weapons were no longer a surprise to him. Arthur had heard about Alpha George and his children’s gifts. He believed the Moon Goddess gave them such a unique power, and such magic had reached Alexander’s ears.
He thought that Doctor Weneth was gifted. Not only was she a miracle doctor, but she could also fight and draw a weapon from her body.
However, he had so many questions about his wife and the words she had spilled. Arthur felt he deserved the truth. So, he never left the Lilac Pack. George’s small community did not offer the luxury or comfort he was used to, but it was the least of his worries. He endured everything, craving the truth.
“Do you think they are still debating?” Alexander asked, his hand massaging his face.
Both the kings were in a library within the Lilac Pack. It wasn’t fancy, but they understood it was the best place for a meeting.
“I think they are prepared to tell us. Whether it is the truth or not, we don’t know yet,” Arthur said, pacing back and forth inside the room.
Just then, Arthur realized something. After his wife’s betrayal was exposed, he had yet to ask his brother’s forgiveness.
Arthur stilled, glancing at Alexander, his chest tightening. At first, he found it hard to speak. His throat seemed paper dry, but soon, he managed to express, “Alexander. It - It was my fault that our family had been broken. I trusted Hazel over you, my brother, and my flesh and blood.”
Arthur sensed the tears brimming in his eyes as he added, “I’m sorry.”
Driven by a desire to make amends, Arthur did what any remorseful person would do. He suddenly dropped and pleaded, “Will you forgive me, Alexander? I don’t deserve your forgiveness, but I hope for it. I want to make up for all the mistakes I’ve made.”
Bowing his head, Arthur waited for Alexander’s reply, but there was none. The silence felt so deafening he feared Alexander’s belated reply.
Soon, however, Alexander rose from his seat. Arthur continued to bow his head, his hands slightly quivering as he clenched his hands into fists.
“Brother,” Alexander said.
Unexpectedly, Arthur felt Alexander’s hands on his arms. He asked, “Please, get up. This is not what I asked of you.”
Alexander’s response left him bemused, but soon, his brother resumed, “I had long forgotten the misunderstanding between us. I don’t need you to kneel before me. I just want my older brother back.”
They both stared at each other, both emotional and relieved. Before they knew it, they consoled each other through an embrace.
“I’m sorry,” Arthur repeated, his hold tightening around his brother. “I was so blind.”
“I don’t blame you completely,” Alexander said. “If Hazel had chosen to be with me, I might have acted blindly too. Who knows. I’m just glad we still have time to be a family again.”
They eventually pulled away with smiles on their faces. Their eyes flickered with emotions as they shook each other’s hands.
“Brother,” Arthur said.
Alexander sniffed whatever tears that were threatening to escape his eyes. He chuckled and repeatedly shook Arthur’s hand. He echoed, “Brother. No woman can ever come between us again.”
“I swear to it,” Arthur claimed.
Just then, the doors to the library opened. George and his entire family, including Theo and his sister, walked in. George bowed his head, and the rest of the family did the same.
“Your Highnesses,” Gwen expressed with her head down. “We are prepared to tell you the entire truth. With that, we entrust our lives in your hands.”
