~ Theo ~
“By the united authority of King Arthur of Northern Alfar and King Alexander of Southern Alfar, let it be known to all that Queen Hazel, having been found guilty of crimes most grievous against the nations of Alfar, is sentenced to execution by beheading.
This punishment, decreed as both just and necessary for the preservation of peace and order, shall be carried out today within the burial grounds of the people she had slain.
May this act serve as a solemn reminder that none, regardless of station or favor, stand above the laws of the nation…”
While a representative of King Alexander gave an opening, Hazel stood on an elevated platform, her body weak.
Theo, standing in the crowd’s first row, studied the former queen carefully. When Hazel locked eyes with him, he raised his chin. It was Theo’s way of letting Hazel know it was over. However, despite Hazel’s predicament, she still dared to glare at Theo.
A scoff left Theo’s lips. He sucked in a deep breath and muttered, “Wolsfbane and something else.” He looked down at the grass and added, “Must be on the ground. I hope everyone is holding up.”
“The training you had given my people has helped. We have become somewhat resistant,” George muttered, giving his people nods. “Any minute now.”
They were waiting for something to happen, but while doing so, George said under his breath, “This used to be our home, Theo. This was where Gwen was born.”
George and Theo stood next to Baron, Jacob, and Caroline. A few Purple-Eyed Pack members gathered behind them, ready for what would come.
Theo looked around. Tombstones surrounded them. He counted the headstones. There were about seventy. He recalled what George said about the massacre that happened many years ago.
Whoever attacked them thought everyone died, but some only pretended to be lifeless; some hid beneath the debris. That was how the Allards survived.
There were signs of ruins like crumbled stonewalls, uneven grounds, charred stones, and much more. Wildflowers grew across the land, along with lilac blooms.
“This used to be a happy place,” George said. “Now, it’s just a memory filled with pain.”
Theo glanced back at Hazel and said, “At least you and the rest of your pack will receive justice today.”
‘Alpha Theo, it’s starting,’ Rollin mindlinked from afar.
Theo nodded in acknowledgment, and before he knew it, the ground shook, and growls echoed in the morning air.
Enemies, Alpha Madlock’s men, and other werewolves whom Theo did not recognize charged at the execution site! In a blink of an eye, they were completely surrounded.
“Give me Hazel, or you will all die!” Alpha Madlock appeared before them, seething as he elongated his claws. “You are completely surrounded, and as of now, the poison I had spread through the grounds has slowly weakened your body! Haha!”
Theo and the Purple-Eyed werewolves swiftly formed three circles, each taking a defensive stance, ready for battle.
“Do you hear me! It’s no use!” Alpha Madlock declared.
On stage, Hazel was already restless, calling out to her mate, “Madlock! Save me! Save me!”
It was clear to Theo that Alpha Madlock was driven by rage. He wondered, ‘Has the alpha not thought this through? Did he really think we did not anticipate his arrival - to save his fated mate?’
“Surrounded?” Theo spoke. “Are you sure we are completely surrounded?”
Theo looked at the warriors on his side and ordered, “Now! Take it!”
Each of the purple-eyed werewolves present took a cube of the monk fruit sweetener, already blended with Gwen’s blood. It would take a few minutes, but eventually, it would reduce the poison’s effects. Then, without warning, more growls echoed through the air, but they didn’t come from Madlock’s men.
The reinforcements arrived like a storm, a surge of brutality sweeping across the execution site. Over a hundred werewolves, a combined force of King Alexander’s guards, Alpha Theo’s men, and King Arthur’s warriors, emerged from the shadowed trees.
From where Theo stood, he saw fear flashing in Madlock’s eyes. Then, Theo declared, “It’s time to pay for all the sins you and your mate have committed! Men, attack!”
Both opposing groups quickly engaged in a fight. Theo, for one, focused his attention on Madlock. He already knew the latter would have poison in his claws, so he avoided getting scratched as much as possible.
With this knowledge, Theo and Gwen had already planned how to keep all warriors alive. Madlock may be carrying poisons, but Gwen was the cure. In the previous days, they had slowly extracted blood and created sweetener cubes.
Every warrior on their side who was wounded and poisoned immediately exited the battlegrounds to rest, take the sweetener, or receive treatments. After getting relieved, they would return to back up their companions.
At the center of the execution site, Theo and Madlock were walking in circles, both in their werewolf forms. Theo had already been wounded, but he was still unaffected by whatever poison was laced in Madlock’s claws. He assumed that it was one of those he was already immune to.
“Look around you, Madlock,” Theo growled. “It’s over. Don’t you know this was all a setup so we could execute you and Hazel?”
Theo laughed and said, “You fell right into our trap.”
Outraged, Madlock charged, saying, “I’ll kill you first, Theo!”
In the next few minutes, Theo and Madlock went head to head, often slashing each other with claws. Theo sometimes shifted into his human form to escape Madlock’s advances and strike with his mighty fists. At some point, Theo found an opening and managed to sink his teeth into Madlock’s back!
Madlock howled in pain. His eyes flickered with the realization that he was losing the fight.
When Theo released Madlock, he appeared lost in his thoughts, but soon, he ran off into the trees. Theo chased after him, following the trail of blood. Eventually, Theo realized that Madlock was going after Gwen!
Gwen had been hiding behind the thick forest the entire time, a designated area for those severely wounded during the fight.
It did not take long for Gwen to come into Theo’s view. He screamed, “Gwen! Watch out!”
Theo leaped into the air, hoping to catch Madlock, but the latter did the same, lunging at Gwen!
“You think you can kill me?” Gwen, alerted, screamed at Madlock. “You are wrong!”
In a flash, Gwen’s moonstone blade pierced through Madlock’s flesh! Theo landed on the ground in time to witness Madlock fall, but while it seemed that the enemy had fallen, Gwen also incurred a scratch on her arm.
Fear crept into Theo’s heart as he asked, “Gwen, are you okay?”
Taking a deep breath, Gwen nodded. She answered, “I’m fine. Let’s get this over with.”
An hour later, the battle ended. Following Madlock’s death, the warriors on his side quickly lost the will to fight. Many of the enemies died, but a few smarter ones surrendered.
The trap was a success. Now, it was time to proceed with Hazel’s execution.
Everyone watched as Hazel shed tears, pleading for forgiveness. She was especially shaken after seeing Madlock’s lifeless body brought up to the elevated platform where she stood.
In front of the crowd, the kings of Alfar finally appeared before them. They stood on another platform opposite Hazel’s execution stage. Before the decapitation, King Alexander said, “Nothing good will ever come for taking the lives of others, Hazel. This is your fate. This is how the Moon Goddess is punishing you. This is your end.”
“No! No! No, please!” Hazel pleaded desperately, powerless against the warriors pinning her down. Her cries soon faded, and her life slipped away.
Theo watched as King Arthur suggested, “To the Purple-Eyed Pack, to those buried beneath the ground, and to everyone affected by Hazel’s crimes, justice is served. Many of us have been hurt by Hazel, including me and Alexander. We are all her victims. But, from here on, we all can move on.”
Many members of Gwen’s pack, including Juliet, cried that day. Theo looked around, noticing their emotional silence. However, some eventually nodded, offering different responses, yet all in agreement with the king.
“After many years, we are happy justice is finally served.”
“Thank you, Your Highness.”
“Indeed, we can move on.”
Theo felt the same. With Hazel and Madlock gone, he can also start a new life with his family. He was just as relieved as everyone else. The tension around the site eased, but right at that moment, Gwen suddenly fated in Theo’s arms.
“Gwen? Gwen!” Theo screamed. Panic surged within him as he assumed, “It must be the poison!”
The next day, Theo walked into Gwen’s hospital room, relieved to find her awake. Earlier, he went to the nurse station and left Gwen in Juliet’s care.
Gwen had been brought to Cada City for an evaluation. It was not like her to be easily affected by any poison. After all, she was the miracle cure.
“Gwen,” Theo called. He rushed and embraced Gwen tightly, and she did the same. “I’m glad you are okay.”
“I’m feeling fine, Theo,” Gwen said. She cupped his face and smiled. “You look like a mess. What happened to you?”
“You fainted, Gwen. I was so scared I’d lose you again,” Theo admitted, his chest tightening at the thought.
“Don’t worry, Theo,” Juliet said in her seat. “Gwen did not faint because of the poison.”
Theo frowned. He asked, “Then why did she faint?”
He saw Gwen smile again and Juliet chuckle. Juliet revealed, “Gwen fainted because she is pregnant.”
Theo’s mouth fell on the floor, his eyes gleamed, but no words left him—he was in utter shock! After what it felt like a minute, he screamed, “I’m going to be a father again!”
