The next day, Mew woke up, limbs all tangled and half of Gulf's body sprawled over him, securing him in a place like a rather unwelcome but exceptionally warm blanket. He smiled at his mate, planting a cheeky kiss on his lips before attempting to untangle himself with all the grace of a gazelle on roller skates.
After extricating himself, he headed to the en-suite bathroom for a freshen up before wafting towards his walk-in closet for a wardrobe change. He rummaged through his closet and pulled out some comfy sweatpants and a t-shirt, tossing his towel into a nearby hamper like a champion.
Mew bestowed another smooch on Gulf before making his way downstairs to the gym for a morning workout. As he strolled past the rooms of various pack members living in the mansion, he exchanged cheerful greetings, feeling decidedly like a royal on a morning parade.
Upon reaching the gym, he spotted his beta, Kaownah, already lifting weights as if he were training for the next Olympic Games. Mew sauntered over, starting his morning jog on the treadmill like a pro before moving into a more vigorous workout.
"Morning, alpha," Kaownah joked, still pumping iron with a grin on his face.
"Morning, Kaownah," Mew replied, steadily transitioning from a jog to a full-throttle run like a running machine.
"So, a bird told me someone brought their mate home in the middle of the night," Kaownah teased, his tone dripping with mischief.
"Yes, I did, and your luna is currently snoozing away," Mew shot back, breathless but smug.
"So, when can we meet our Luna?" Kaownah inquired, his curiosity piqued.
"Probably around breakfast time," Mew replied, stopping his run to head over to the punching bag for some serious therapy.
"Yes! Can't wait to meet the cutie!" Kaownah exclaimed, causing Mew to halt and shoot him a mock glare.
"Chill, I'm not going to snatch him away from you," Kaownah said, hands raised in surrender like a cartoon character caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
Mew smirked and scoffed at Kaownah as he continued to unleash his frustrations on the punching bag, while Kaownah hopped onto the treadmill for his cardio session.
'Mates coming!' Tharn, Mew's wolf, chimed in from the back of Mew's mind, doing a happy dance that was more amusing than impressive.
Mew rolled his eyes, shaking his head at Tharn. 'What a childish wolf I have,' he thought, snickering at his companion.
'Shut up, you daft human! Our little mate is coming!' Tharn playfully scolded, making Mew snort with laughter.
"Mew?" Gulf's voice broke through as he rubbed his eyes, entering the gym like a sleepy puppy.
Mew turned to him, a soft smile plastered on his face before strolling over. Kaownah was observing from afar, smirking, before his expression morphed into something comical as he set his sights on Gulf.
Gulf enveloped Mew in a bear hug, looking like a child before following him inside toward Kaownah. He then cast a confused look at Kaownah, who was eyeing him like some bizarre specimen.
"Mew, your friend is weird," Gulf said, still hugging him, causing Kaownah to coo at Gulf in a way that could only be described as odd.
"Don't scare your luna, Kaownah, with your peculiar personality," Mew admonished, giving Kaownah a side-eye while he resumed his affectionately protective stance.
"Luna, hi! I'm Kaownah and I'm not weird!" Kaownah introduced himself gallantly, waving his arms with the enthusiasm of a kid at a birthday party.
"He's just a weirdo, do ignore him," Mew chuckled, gently lifting Gulf and plopping him on a small weightlifting chair in the corner of the gym.
"Don't listen to this knobhead, I'm not weird—I'm just the best friend and your beta," Kaownah asserted with a smile, looking oddly proud.
Gulf surveyed Kaownah from head to toe and back up again, giving a nod of acknowledgement. "I'm Gulf," he said, offering a tiny, adorable wave at Kaownah.
"Hi Luna Gulf, you're so cute! I feel like pinching your cheeks!" Kaownah declared teasingly, taking a couple of steps closer like he was about to engage in some serious cheek-pinching.
But as soon as Kaownah moved, Mew shot him a warning glance that could freeze lava, making him stop in his tracks with an amused smirk.
"Why are you up early?" Mew asked, returning to the punching bag like a champ.
"I don't know," Gulf replied, yawning dramatically.
"When I woke up you weren't there, so I came to find you, but I got lost. Luckily, some sweet lady pointed the way, calling me 'cutie' and pinching my cheeks," Gulf added, rubbing his eyes as if that would shake off the sleep.
"If I'm not mistaken, her name is Amy," Gulf said, glancing at Mew, who groaned audibly.
"If possible, please don't go near her. Try to steer clear," Mew muttered, resuming his activity while envisioning all sorts of chaos.
"Why? She's kind and sweet!" Gulf replied, looking at Mew like he'd just declared the sun was blue.
"She is, it's just that she's the pack... shall we say, 'social butterfly' who's willing to flutter around with anything that moves," Mew replied, emphasising the last part with a knowing look.
"But she's not homophobic, right?" Gulf asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I guess not. It's just that everyone is keeping their distance because she wants to sleep with everyone, including the mailman," Mew reasoned.
"Did you sleep with her?" Gulf asked, making both Mew and Kaownah freeze in horror.
"What? I'm just curious!" Gulf added defensively, shrugging his shoulders as if this was the most normal conversation ever.
"No, never," Mew replied without hesitating.
"I was busy, but the main reason was that I was waiting for you," Mew said, gazing lovingly at Gulf, which was entirely too cheesy but also kind of cute.
"Good answer," Gulf said, puffing out his chest like he'd just won a gold medal.
"Whipped," Kaownah muttered under his breath, grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
