                    ALPHA Frankie.
The constant ringing of my cell phone dragged me out of the short nap. I had heard it ring a couple of times, if not a dozen and more times, but I chose to ignore it. Holding my mate in my arms felt so good I could barely snatch myself away from her. Her scent was so strong and feminine that it tingled my senses. She felt so soft wrapped around my rigid muscles. I felt like one little touch from me would break her more than she was already broken, and so I tried hard not to move as she slept peacefully until I fell asleep myself while holding her in my arms.
When the ringing didn’t stop, I straightened up, smoothening my rumpled clothes and looked down at the screen of my phone. A dozen missed call notifications stared back at me. I know why and where I should be right now. The council of elders were probably waiting for me, and right now, I would go there and tell them everything my mate told me.
Taking one last look at the sleeping woman on the bed, I walked out and closed the door behind. One of my guards stationed at the door bowed to me, and I nodded my approval.
“Listen to me, no one is allowed in here. Regardless of who they are! Do you understand me?” I commanded.
“Yes, alpha!” He replied in an instant while bowing his head.
“Good. And if anything happens, make sure to mind-link me to inform me of the situation.”
“Yes, Alpha!” He replied with his head still lowered.
I walked out of the hospital and before I got into my car, I couldn’t help but take one more glance at the direction of the room Paula was kept. The memories came rushing back and I couldn’t help but sigh. I entered my car and drove away with only one destination in mind. Once I got there I had barely made it out of my car when Hawke came running towards me with a worried look.
“Where have you been?! The whole council has been waiting for you, and I tell you those old men are scary as fuck when kept waiting,” He said, trailing after me as I didn’t stop to hear his words.
“You know where,” I replied, walking into my palace and directly to my room.
Hawke followed closely behind. I needed to freshen up and prepare myself for what’s to come at the meeting today.
“Why did you ignore my calls? And their calls! You didn’t even let anyone mind-link you! Not even me, your beta,” Hawke said, anger spewing from his every sentence.
“I’m here now, aren’t I?”
“Yes. Yes, you are, and I hope your mate is doing fine, but you know there’s only so much I can do. I barely managed to stop the preparations and calm the elders down for so long.” He said while donning a resigned look after which he sighed.
“God Hawke! Quit nagging! I’m almost done” I replied irritated that he was breathing down my neck so much.
I rushed into my bathroom and showered. Soon, I was out, freshly dressed and prepared to go to the damned meeting. Hawke followed closely behind me like the loyal beta he is till I finally made it to the council of elders meeting with many old angry men who were whispering harshly, including my father, who mind-linked me from where he stood. He asked where I was, and I told him he would understand me soon enough. I sat on my throne, and shortly the murmuring died down.
“I’m sorry for keeping you waiting.” I said and then continued, “But I have my reasons.”
“What reason could have made you stop the preparation of mating your chosen Luna and ignoring the summons of the elders, Alpha?”
One of the elders asked. I swallowed. This is it. I am about to reveal it all to them.
“I have an announcement to make,” I said.
Silence blanketed the whole hall and I took that as my cue to continue. I sighed before looking straight at them as I blurted it out.
“I found my mate.”
Murmurs rose instantly and soon my father’s eyes found mine, and they were big and round in shock. I have finally found my mate after so long. I could see the shell-shocked expression on everyone’s face. They were yet to know the final details, and I feared they wouldn’t be able to take it well.
“There’s more.” I continued, and everyone stopped talking, diverting all their attention to me once again.
“She’s at the hospital now getting treated and not stable enough to be here now” my eyes scanned the room to see their expressions. They were still as shocked as hell, but I wasn’t done.
“There’s still more,” I said again.
“She’s my mate, but apparently, someone mated her forcefully and treated her like garbage. I can’t count the number of bruises I saw on her body, and I found her while she was trying to end her life and get away from the suffering.”
No one said anything. They all stared at me as I continued to give them the details of everything my mate told me. When it finally seemed like it had sunk into their heads, someone asked the question I dreaded the most.
“Who is the wolf that mated her?” I took a deep breath and a pause before I replied.
“Alpha Xayden….my brother.”
Loud gasps immediately echoed throughout the entire hall while my father’s face morphed into an expression of horror. The murmurs increased ten folds, and they were starting to cause a violent throbbing in my head.
“Silence!!!” I commanded.
Silence immediately enveloped the entire hall and the throbbing in my head soon died down.
“Apparently, my brother, the Alpha of the green pack, has been abusing my mate, which he forcefully took for himself while I searched desperately for her. He’s nothing but a cold-blooded monster who has done nothing but cause his supposed Luna pain. That ends now as I found her, and she’s my mate.”
An elder cleared his throat and I immediately knew what was coming. I sighed as I gestured for him to speak up.
“With all due respect, Alpha, what about the mate bond between your mate and the Alpha of the green pack?” The elder asked.
“It is broken,” I said simply.
“How do you know that?” He asked and I immediately felt infuriated.
“The same way I know that she is my mate!” I said with obvious fury spewing from my tone.
The questions were starting to irritate me. I wanted to get the meeting over with, so I could go back to my mate. I couldn’t help but worry that right now she was in danger, but so far, I haven’t heard anything from my guard at the hospital, which put my mind at rest…. for now.
“The fact here remains that she is my mate who has suffered for so long with my brother. I am getting her back from him at all cost.” I pronounced firmly.
“I smell war, Alpha,” one of the elders said.
Did they think I didn’t know? Did they really think I didn’t know what I was getting myself into? They think I don’t know this could cause a bloody war between my brother and me, but I’d he damned if I let the woman, I’ve spent my whole life looking for return to the clutches of that monster.
She’s with me now, and she’s mine!
“Permit me to continue, Alpha, but isn’t it better to let the Luna remain with her Alpha of the green pack rather than cause ourselves the trouble? A woman shouldn’t be the reason why the brothers should engage in a rift. Why don’t you just reject her so peace can reign?” low murmurs of agreement filled the room.
My wolf immediately growled angrily. I understand you, Black! I want to break that elder’s nose badly too. How could they! Everyone knew how long I searched for my mate. They, in particular, almost crucified me for not finding my mate and already chose one for me, and now I see her, and all they have to say is for me to let her go?
Never!
“Did any of you even hear a word I said?” I said as I stood to my feet and silence immediately took over.
“That monster you call my brother who has been thirsting for my throne took my mate forcefully and abused her in the most terrible way possible! How could you tell me to leave her there when I’ve searched for her my whole life! And now you tell me to reject her? That will only happen if I die!” I said with a commanding and firm tone.
No one moved an inch, let alone talk.
Good.
“If Xayden wants war, then I’ll give him war! I’m not letting her go. And if it’s proof you want, we will let the mate bond trial decide that. Pick a date for it, and I’ll gladly go with anything you decide on.”
With that, I walked out of the hall with a shaken-up Hawke running behind me. I didn’t spare him a glance, neither did I stop. I just wanted to get out of here and see my mate again. I got into my car and drove out of the pack house as fast as possible. The thought of my mate in danger made my heart beat fast like a drum. News has probably reached Xayden now that I have his Luna, and I can’t risk him finding her at the hospital and taking her away from me again.
The thought made me step hard on the pedal; no one is ever going to take her away from me again––not the council and certainly not Xayden.
