ALPHA Frankie
The journey back to the pack house felt so slow and excruciating. My thoughts are all over the place and my mind is in shambles. As much I thought going to see her wouldn’t affect me, it did, and I felt that I was a failure. I wished I had searched for her more those days, I wished I actually paid attention to her behavior or the way Xayden acted after she went missing. Thinking about it all now, his own act was so suspicious but my thoughts were all over the place.
We had so many memories together that I could barely count them. We took our first steps together and we have been friends since then. The both of us would go on wild runs together, racing against each other while daring the loser to do the craziest things. Many times, Anne would come up with the strangest things and we would be shocked because this human literally come up with the weirdest stuff. I, her and Xayden would go deep into the woods to play our dangerous games until Xayden started giving us space after his birthday. It became just me and her alone. The memories of us having fun together, laughing so hard our stomach hurt and till we shed tears.
Anne is one of the best things that happened to me growing up. We both looked forward to growing up to the right age and getting our mates. We were so excited about it and spent so many nights talking about the kinds of mates we would want to have. She would have a dreamy look on her face whenever she described the kind of mate she wanted, she was part of the reason I always got excited whenever my birthdays were coming because I could find a mate.
Never did I ever imagine my brother, Xayden to be the mate she found then. She didn’t want him, I am sure. That was why she withdrew herself from me and stayed away from me when she came of age to find her mate. Xayden had always been violent and dangerous since he was a pup like Anne and me and I can’t count the number of times that I have rescued a few people from being bullied by him, including Anne.
How could fate play such stupid tricks and make him her mate? Of all the fucking males!!!!
And he has kept her there for so many years, torturing and hitting her the way he did to my mate.
I have come to realize that Xayden isn’t just violent and Dangerous, he is infact a beast! A psychopath that doesn’t deserve to be alive. Now that I know, there’s no way I’m letting anyone stay with him any longer than they have.
I felt bad about choosing Paula over Anne but I don’t have to choose anymore. I’m getting them both away from his evil clutches and it starts from rescuing Anne. First, I needed to go to the packhouse to report the issue at hand to our father and if needed, the elders of the council.
Once I got to the pack house, I made for my father’s Chambers immediately. I knocked on the door to his study and walked in when he told me to. He was seated at the only table in the room reading a book and he didn’t raise his head to look at me.
It had been like this since I found my mate, he claimed I was crazy for wanting to go to war with Xayden. He had always categorized me as the diplomatic one while Xayden was the violent one. I couldn’t wait to show him how much of both attributes I was.
“What brings you here?” He finally asked when he realized I wasn’t going to speak up first.
He leaned back in his chair before setting his reading glasses as well as the book he was reading down on the table. He fixed his gaze on me and I felt quite uncomfortable. I knew he felt guilty for taking Xayden away from his family but I deserve respect too. Xayden wasn’t the only one forced to grow up all by himself.
“I was at my brother’s place today” I said, going straight to the point
I watched as his jaw twitched for a minute before going back to normal. He gestured at me to continue speaking but I wasn’t going to let him think he had the upper hand. I shut my mouth and stayed quiet while staring him straight in the eye and soon he sighed before speaking.
“And? Have you agreed to return his Luna to him?” My father asked again and I tried not to roll my eyes at his feigned ignorance.
“I made it clear that I’m not giving him back my mate! She was never his to begin with!” I replied, clenching and unclenching my fist.
Dealing with Xayden has made me lose my ability to stay calm for long.
‘Talk about bad influence.’
“Then why were you at his place? I suppose you weren’t there to have tea and brunch” My father said impatiently.
“Xayden needs to be punished appropriately father! He’s a freaking psychopath! I’ve always known him to be violent but not enough to kidnap my childhood friend, Anne for these past years and torture her until I couldn’t even recognize her. He offered her to me in return for his Luna, my mate!” I bark at him expecting him to flip out but I was confused at what followed.
My father remained calm as he stared at me blankly, as if he already knows the piece of information I was passing across to him.
Wait….
Fuck!
Realization dawns on me as my jaw drops.
“You knew?” it wasn’t a question and he doesn’t even react at all.
Instead, he picks up his book and continues to flip through it as if I never said anything in the first place.
‘How could he keep such a secret?’ I thought as fury bubbled within me.
No wonder Xayden had so much confidence to do shit to people because he knew his father would always support him.
“What part of it did you know about?” I asked unable to keep the menace that now dripped in my tone.
I needed to know because I couldn’t stare at this man like my father again, I was too irritated that he would actually cover up for a psychopath.
“I’ve always known Xayden to be capable of such nefarious acts. That’s the only reason why you were chosen as the proper one to be the Alpha king. Though I didn’t know about this…this Anne you’re talking about” He replied dismissively and the rage in me tripled.
If he wasn’t my father, he would have probably been on the floor with a bleeding nose and a number of broken bones. I clench my fists at the way my father spoke of her like she meant nothing.
Well good!
My mission here was complete. I wasn’t going to waste any more time speaking to father again since Xayden had already manipulated him. My father knew about this and I won’t be any surprised if I find out that the council of elders are in on it too.
Those bunch of sleazy old bastards!
“Good thing you know that, so when your son’s head comes rolling in front of you, you wouldn’t be surprised. Xayden has asked for war and war he will get!” I said before storming out of his chambers without waiting for his response.
When I reach my own Chambers, Hawke is already waiting for me and he bows immediately.
“Mobilize the army! Every single trained unit under my control!” I command.
Hawke hesitated for a while and I happened to notice a certain look of uncertainty in his eyes.
“Why? Is something wrong?” He asked
“Do what I ask you to do Hawke! Now” I command again and he nods knowing better to irritate me further than I already am.
He bows his head and makes to leave but stops in his tracks when some of my men carry omething in a duffel bag towards me.
Once it had been dropped, the first thing I noticed is blood seeping out of the bag alongside a familiar scent that I can’t seem to place.
“We found it outside of the pack house while we were on patrol” Said one of the men.
“And?” I bark impatiently as I was already triggered by the earlier confrontation with my dad.
“It came with a note that said it was for you…. from Alpha Xayden”
My blood immediately rang cold and my heart sank.
The guard handed me the note and the contents made my head spin.
‘You chose war dearest brother and so I got you a little present to start the game. How do you like my present? Bloody? Watch your back brother. You never know when I’ll strike’
The note immediately fell from my hands as I ambled frantically towards the duffel bag. I unzipped it with shaking hands and the contents almost had me vomiting.
Inside was a mangled and tattered body of what seemed to be a young woman. What broke me was the clothes the body was putting on alongside the familiar scent emanating from the person’s body.
It was Hers
It was Anne’s
She was dead.
Xayden had killed Anne and sent her body to me.
He has officially chosen to settle this with war.
I let out a sorrowful scream as I held the tattered and unrecognizable body to my chest.
It hurt so much to hold her lifeless body in my hands.
All the memories we shared started playing out in my head and I couldn’t help the tears that slid down my cheeks. This was the end of this wonderful girl’s life and it was all that beast’s fault.
It was all Xayden’s fault
Just then, the last words of his note to me flash through my mind as the words starts to form in my head. My brother was a cunny bastard and he would –
‘Watch your back……you never know when I’ll….’
Paula!!!!!
Panic wracked my entire body as I dumped the body in my arms and race towards the hospital. Along the way, my heart was pounding frantically as I prayed, she would be alright. I was breathless when I got there but the sight of Paula’s empty bed definitely knocked the rest of my breath out.
She was gone.
