ALPHA Frankie
The day had finally come.
The day for the mate bond trial was organized by the council of elders was finally here. I couldn’t believe I’ve actually come this far with Paula; the victory was going to taste so good. I didn’t know the kind of trial the elders have set down for us but I’m quite sure I’m going to come out victorious.
It would all end now, all the madness of Xayden trying to forcefully take her back ends today.
All her pain, suffering. Sadness would all end today once I win the trial. I will close that traumatic content of her life and open another one with just the both of us; an Alpha king and his Alpha Queen. I couldn’t wait to make her feel human again and I would make her feel so great and she would forget everything that Xayden had put her through.
Taking one last look at myself in the mirror, I strode out of my room and joined Hawke where he stood waiting for me. I had to give it to Hawke for holding down everything while I was entangled in this mate madness with Xayden. He helped run the realm’s affairs successfully and no one felt my absence.
“What is the situation of things?” I asked as we made our way towards the meeting hall.I needed to be sure that any foul play wasn’t in place already although I couldn’t help but feel there was.
“Alpha Xayden has arrived and so have all the elders of the council present. The trial will begin as soon as you arrive at the hall. They are all waiting for you and I think something is at play too. Everything feels so weird.” Hawke fills me in and I was glad that I wasn’t the only one feeling that way. I knew that whatever they had planned for me was going to go down the drain without me stressing it.
I nodded before I quickened my steps towards the hall. When I finally got there, the impatient murmurs that reached from outside the hall died down immediately as everyone bowed to their Alpha king. Everyone except my egoistic brother who was standing by father’s side.
He had a smug grin on his face that paints him as the very devil he was. I wanted to punch that grin off his face but I will never lower myself to his psycho standards.
“It is just a matter of time before his facade breaks down. We both know Xayden is weaker and only makes his decisions out of rage” My wolf chimes in.
That smug look will be wiped off his face when I finally win the mate bond trial. I have nothing to fear because Paula is my true mate and I can feel it in every pulse inside of me.
“Shall we begin?” One of the elders on Xayden’s side of the hall questioned.
The look on his face looked suspicious and I felt he was up to something.
It is only then that I realize something was missing.
Paula.
‘Where was she?’ I thought as I looked around the room for any signs of her.
She was supposed to be here and the mate bond trial can’t go on without her. I asked Hawke to take care of her till the day of the trial but now she’s not here. I glance towards Hawke and he only shakes his head, knowing what my look meant.
“What do you mean to begin? Where is my mate? Doesn’t she have to be here for the trial to hold?” I ask the beady-eyed elder.
From the corner of my eyes, I could see the smirk on Xayden’s face grow bigger. The bastard feels like he is in charge here and that’s about to change because I won’t tolerate any unfair situation.
Something was up.
“You don’t know?” The elder asks innocently but his expression said differently.
I could see him trying desperately to hide his smile and now I knew the reason why Xayden was reeking of confidence; these old bastards had his back.
“Know what?” I spat back at him.
I stepped in front of him with fury blazing in my eyes.
I let them make the decisions because I don’t want a war to break out and now these people think they can fucking play with me. I could feel my father trying to desperately mind link me but I kept the barriers up. I didn’t even want to hear whatever he had to say to me now.
The elder signaled to a guard who moved towards me and dropped two swords to the floor in front of me. I look from the sword to the men in the room wanting an explanation to what in the world was happening.
“The mate bond trial will not hold.” He said and paused for a bit before continuing
“We have decided that this strife should be solved with a fight of might. Whoever brings the other to his knees keeps the mate. You have spent more than enough time with her so It’s obvious she would pick you.” The elder explained further and I wanted to bang his head against something so hard.
‘How dare he?’ I thought in fury.
“You made such a decision without informing me? What? You want me to fight this sick bastard to prove that woman is actually my mate?” I growl standing from my throne.
“C’mon now brother, are you that scared?” Xayden said stepping towards me.
My blood only boiled harder at the sight of his face. The bastard had the effrontery to look as relaxed as if nothing here mattered to him. I hated that they could all see the fact that this woman belonged to me yet they approved of this shenanigan.
“If you’re so sure of yourself then let’s fight it out like true men!” He added in a mocking tone and I almost threw a punch at him.
“This was your doing right?” I asked even though the if the answer was obvious.
“What did you do? Offer the elders your pitiful money?” I asked.
“Oh brother, you’re making it so obvious that you’re scared of me.” He said mockingly.
Enraged and totally mad, I shed my shirt off my body and stood half-naked while I grab a sword grab a sword.
“You want to fight? Then let’s fight” I say and his expression changes immediately, matching mine with the same degree of anger and rage. He took off his clothes and the men in the room moves away to create enough room. Xayden grabbed the second sword off of the floor and unsheathes it and I do the same.
For a second or so, we circle around the hall one person waiting for the other to strike first. Knowing my brother and how sensitive he could be, I decided to use other tactics apart from the sword fight. The plan was to make him attack first.
I start chuckling mockingly.
“What’s funny?” He grimaced.
“Your pathetic life that’s what” I reply
“Shut up and fight Frankie!” He barked with gritted teeth.
“Do you think doing this will make Paula want you? Don’t you get it? She hates you” I taunted.
He scoffs “I don’t need her to want me Frankie. I need her to put me on that pretty throne of yours”
“See? That’s what makes you pathetic. Because no one wants you and you clamor for things that aren’t yours even if you have to take it by force. You still end up not getting it, sounds like a pathetic thing to me” I said while smirking.
“Shut up and fight!” He shouts in obvious fury.
“Admit it, Xayden, you can never have everything I have because you don’t deserve it. Not the throne and not my mate!” I continued.
His veins start to pop as his fury increases.
Any moment now…..
“Let’s face it, you’re nothing but a wannabe! Maybe you should write a book on how to live a pathetic life and maybe it would sell. Maybe you’d do that successfully.” I finish
He finally snaps and charges straight at me.
I swerve to the side and stop the iron blade that he swung at me with my own sword. The impact of the two blades clashing rocked through the whole room. Xayden’s eyes were red with fury and they glistened with murderous intent. He moved his sword only to bring it down upon me again and I move backward, letting my feet hit him in the process and send him staggering back. It takes a second for him to regain his posture and charge back at me
For minutes, the only thing that could be heard in the room was the clashing of blades and our grunts, growls, and groans.
I was so focused on blocking his sword that I didn’t notice the sudden movement of Xayden’s legs coming at me. When I noticed and tried to block, he used that opportunity wing his sword at my arm and it sliced through.
Gasps erupted in the room as blood gushed from my arm.
I look towards the wound and sigh in relief when I notice that it was not too deep. I look back at Xayden to see he was smirking.
“Now who’s pathetic?” He says.
He suddenly charged at me again and slashed his sword through my side when I wasn’t prepared. The pain had me doubling over but I restrained myself from falling to my knees.
As I was about to give up due to tiredness, Paula’s face flashed before me.
I have to do this!
I forced myself to stand upright while clutching onto my sword harder.
“A few slashes that will heal in no time doesn’t make me pathetic Xayden, you thinking that way makes you the pathetic one”
He growls and comes at me again.
I stop his sword halfway through the air with mine before using my elbows to hit him hard on his chest and causing him to stagger backward. The attack completely distracted him from the kick I delivered soon after and his sword fell to the ground. Before I could reach for it, he was already up grabbing the fallen sword off the floor and pointing it towards me.
We clash swords for longer minutes again until his frustration took the better of him and he suddenly charged at me without preparation allowing me the needed chance to use my sword to send his flying in the air. I kick at his knees with two fast precise strokes and he yelps in pain as he falls to the ground in front of him, on his knees. Right, where he should be.
Before he can catch himself, my sword is already at his throat, mere inches from tearing it open and staining the floors with his filthy blood. The smug look on his face was gone. It was my turn to smirk at his loss and at my own victory.
“Now who’s scared?” I taunt, using his very words against him.
I got the expected result as his face darkens with rage.
Victory had never felt so good.
