I wouldn’t say that Renee was my favorite person in the world, especially after what she did but I wouldn’t wish her dead. She had always been like a sister to me and I was willing to her punish for trying to hurt Paula’s baby but I wouldn’t go as far as killing her.
Everyone was in grief over her death and that included the pack members. The whole pack had been blanketed in silence since the tragedy that occured some days ago.
This was not because the person that had passed away being Renee, was an important person. The reason for the solemn environment had been because the person that died was the only family the Alpha’s King Beta had.
It was not always that way as Hawke had his parents as well but they had passed tragically. They had been killed off in the battle between witches and werewolves that happened 50 years ago.
That battle had happened under the reign of my father but when I had taken over the throne, I had immediately made it my agenda to bring peace back into the werewolf realm. Once they had realised that they couldn’t win against me, they had surrendered and I used that opportunity to sign a peace treaty with them.
After the cremation, Hawke himself had been acting as if everything was alright but I knew that he was far from okay. He buried himself in work as a means of healing and I knew that there was nothing I could do to make him feel better especially when it was my fault.
I had seen the note Xayden sent and found out that he had killed Renee. The reason he had done so was because he found that she was the one who ‘Killed’ his heir as he had called it.
I felt guilty at the fact that it had all happened because I had told the doctor and Paula to continue hiding the fact that the baby survived.
‘If I had just said the truth….’ I thought
I actually wished I had just said everything was fine and given Renee a punishment.
Now it was too late and she was gone. I couldn’t bear to look Hawke in the eyes anymore knowing I had been the cause of his sister’s demise.
I also wasn’t sure he knew the reason why Xayden killed Renee and I just couldn’t bring myself to tell him. He acted as he normally did around me except he had a brooding aura around him now. That was just because he was in grief and trying to hide it. I could imagine how his face would contort in anger when he knew why his little sister was brutally murdered.
I sighed deeply.
Paula had also been acting off since the day we found Renee’s dead body. She had been avoiding me and seemed way more closed off than before. I couldn’t let her go back into her shell so I planned to take her out again today. I just needed to round off my work before informing her.
Once I was done, I stood up and made my way towards Paula’s quarters. I knocked and soon a muffled “come in” came from inside.
“Hey…..” I said once I sighted her but trailed off as soon as I saw who was in the room.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked furiously as I glared at the person.
I could recognize that face anywhere as she had led the opposition in a battle against me all those years ago.
Akayla!
She was sitting besides Paula on the bed as they seemed to be having a conversation.
“What do you mean by why is she here Frankie?” Paula asked softly and I stared at her direction.
“I had narrated the whole tale to you earlier about how we are connected, remember?” She explained, sensing the wariness in my tone.
“I do remember Paula. I just had such a reaction out of instinct as she was and still is proclaimed as an evil old witch” I said as I glared at Akayla who was glaring back.
“What do you mean evil old witch, you brute?” Akayla finally said with a raised brow.
“Exactly what you heard, or has your old age made your ears start failing you?” I asked mockingly but once I sensed Paula’s glare I continued.
“I’m sorry if you are offended that I said the facts.” I said.
“You animal, how dare you mock me? Do you want to have a go at this old bones? Was it because I went easy on you at our last face off?” She said as she moved closer to me.
Fire suddenly erupted in her hands and it looked blaringly hot but I wouldn’t back down in the least bit.
I got ready to change into my wolf form and finish the enemity we started on the battle ground years ago. I had even forgotten that Paula was standing right there but I was soon made very aware.
“Stop” Paula said but before I could process anything, I was flying backwards and Into the wall and so was Akayla.
I grunted at the impact as I slid to the floor but was soon up on my feet again.
‘What the hell was that?’ I thought as I looked to the place the power surge came from and I found that it was just Paula that was standing there.
What shook me was the fact that her hair was flying all over the place as if it was being blown by the wind. Her eyes had also changed as it was a mix of what seemed to be red. I was absolutely terrified yet mesmerized at the same time.
“Paula? What’s going on?”I asked cautiously, not wanting to set her off again.
I didn’t want her to do something that would hurt herself.
She gave no response and just stared blankly in no exact direction.
I put my foot forward and stepped on the ground to see I she would react and she did.
She looked towards my foot blankly and the air in the room intensified. I continued to walk towards her and I could vaguely hear Akayla telling me to not do so.
I didn’t care as I had to get to Paula before she would hurt herself. As I walked forward, the air around me became more and more stifling and it started choking me.
“Paula, can you hear me?” I croaked out in a raspy voice.
No reply…
I was almost there.
Paula…
I finally reached her and placed my hand on her shoulder. I was already weak and almost passed out at this point so I used all of my remaining strength to Shake her.
“Paula! Come back, it’s Frankie” I said.
Time seemed to stop at that time and soon the pressure around my neck began to loosen till it was finally gone.
Her eyes changed back to the beautiful hazel eyes I knew and her hair stopped flying about.
“Frankie” She muttered before she slumped and fainted.
I was quick to catch her but due to the loss of strength, I fell straight onto my knees.
She lay in my arms breathing slowly as I examined her to see if she was alright and once I confirmed, I turned towards Akayla.
“What the hell was that?”
