“What the heck was that?” I asked Akayla, still reeling from the aftershock of what just went down.
“I don’t know” She finally let out after a long silence.
“What do you mean you don’t know? How is that possible?” I questioned loudly.
Paula stirred in my arms and that made me instantly lower my voice.
I found that I had regained my strength so I stood up gently with her in my arms and walked towards the bed. I laid her down gently, brushed her hair out of her face before turning to face Akayla.
I walked towards where she was standing at the far end of the room and sat down on the chair beside her.
“Speak! What did you mean by you don’t know? Aren’t you as labeled as the greatest witch in the werewolf realm? This should be something you are aware of as it is related to your kind.” I whispered.
“I understand that this should be common knowledge to me because I am also a witch but you are missing the fact that Paula is a half-witch. That implies that the rules that may apply to me might not apply to her” She explained.
“Does that mean that what is happening to Paula cannot be clarified?” I queried.
“I never said that. All I stated was that rules that apply to me concerning witchcraft don’t apply to Paula. I have an idea but I am not sure how correct it is. It’ might be that the block her mother placed on her powers are growing weaker because she has a life growing within her.”
“What do you mean? What does the baby inside have to do with the block that was placed on her powers? What exactly is going on?” I queried.
“I suspect that since the baby is a supernatural being, it is absorbing whatever energy it can from her body” She announced.
“What? Why? Is a baby supposed to do that?” I queried.
“A normal baby isn’t supposed to do that but this baby is a supernatural being. All supernatural beings source their energy right from the womb. The thing is that it is not supposed to take more than a little from what is available in its mother’s body. The thing with this baby is that it is the bi-product of a half-witch and a werewolf.” She explained.
“The witch side of the baby might have sensed the power that had been blocked in Paula’s body and began to crave it. It would then start attacking the bond that has sealed the powers till they explode. I don’t know how Paula’s body will be able to take that outburst as she is also human. The pregnancy, the weakening of the seal, and her weak body were what caused her to faint.” She finished.
I looked towards the bed and back to Akayla trying to process all the information before I asked the nagging question at the back of my mind.
“Will she be alright?”
I could take a lot of things but certainly not the endangerment of my mate. I would go to any lengths to protect her.
She had been through a lot and now this was happening to her.
I gazed at her, examiningher small frame from head to toe. She didn’t look pale anymore and that was a relief at least
“I can’t say for sure if she will be alright going forward as I am not sure of what is going on. All I said was a theory I deducted from what I saw. I will go back to the coven to inquire more about it from the elders.” She informed.
I felt my mind in chaos as I kept imagining all sorts of awful things happening to Paula and it scared me.
“Don’t worry. Nothing can happen to her as she is a fighter. She went through a lot yet she is here hale and hearty. So this will be a breeze for her” Akayla announced as she awkwardly patted my shoulder in an attempt of comfort.
I brushed her hand off my shoulder and gave her a forced smile.
“I know we are not comfortable with each other but let’s try to get along for Paula’s sake. Please, just tone down on the physical contact alright.” I informed through gritted teeth as I tried my best to be nice.
“Noted! The comforting act felt weird but I didn’t want to seem rude. Thank the heavens that we are on the same page.” She confessed as she took a few steps back from me.
“I have to go now because I have a lot t inquire about from the elders.” Akayla announced.
She looked towards the bed and back to me.
“Do take care of her. I will be back with answers as soon as I can.” She declared before she vanished into thin air.
I stared at the spot she had been standing at for a while. I immediately jumped up and raced towards the bed once I heard Paula groan.
She let out another groan before she opened her eyes slowly.
“Frankie?” She croaked out looking frantically around the room.
“Yes, Paula. I am here” I replied grasping her hand.
She suddenly burst out crying while clutching my hand tightly.
Panic seeped through me.
” What’s wrong Paula? Why are you crying?” I asked as I frantically started to wipe her tears away.
“K. Frankie! You died. I saw you die!” She stammered out amidst fits of sobs.
“What?”
NARRATOR
Just outside the door of Paula’s room, a silhouette of an unknown person could be seen.
The person had their face pressed on a gap between the door. They stood there for a long time before stepping back.
Like a flash, the person had disappeared down the hall. When they reached the end of the hall, they bent a bit, clutching their knees as they started panting.
Once the person regained their breath, they straightened up fully. A smirk could be seen on the person’s face as they looked back at where they came from.
“Well, well well. Who would have known that the proposed Luna was a Witch? This is some shocking news. The Alpha king’s mate is our sworn enemy. This day could not get any more interesting” the figure commented with a triumphant grin before fleeing the scene.
