Frankie
“What do you mean I died?” I questioned as I wrapped my arms around her.
“I saw you die right befoe me and there was nothing I could do about it.” She said shivering and sobbing uncontrollably. When she looked up at me, I could see immense fear in her eyes. I stroked her hair and held her hysterical self closer.
“Calm down Paula. It was most likely a nightmare and I am not dead.”I said as I tried my best to calm her down.
“It felt so real Frankie.” She cried.
My heart broke for her as I felt a lump rising in my throat.
No! I couldn’t afford to show negative emotions as it would only worsen matters.
I swallowed before reassuring her once again that all was well.
When her sobbing subsided she snuggled closer to me and started speaking.
“I saw you Frankie. You were seated on a throne, wearing a golden crown with green and silver emblems on them. I was seated besides you also wearing a crown, only smaller. Mine had black diamonds encrusted on it.” At that my eyes widened.
“What did you say?” I questioned.
What she was the sacred crowning ceremony that happened between the Alpha, Luna, Ex Alpha and the council of elders. No other person was allowed to see the crown and no other person has. I was able to know this as I was the current Alpha king.
So how had Paula know what the crowns looked like?
“I said that we were both wearing crowns and sitting on thrones. Is there something wrong?” She questioned as she unentangled herself from me and looked up at me.
I didn’t want to further upset her so I shook my head but my mind was in turmoil.
“There is nothing wrong. You can continue.” I said as I tried my best to put on a radiant smile.
“Ohh, okay. As we were sitting on the throne, a shadowy figure appeared in front of us. The weird thing was that we both smiled at that figure even though it exuded a terrifying aura. Before I could process anything, a sword had been plunged in your heart by the same shadowy figure that you smiled at.” She uttered, sniffing repeatedly.
“T… there was nothing I could do and I could only watch as the life left your body. I wanted so badly to run to you and take away your pain but I couldn’t move. I.. I, K..Frankie, I felt so scared and heartbroken. Please don’t leave me like that. Please…..” She cried out.
I felt really heartbroken for her and all I could do was hug her as tightly as I could to myself. A lump was rising in my throat again and I was struggling to fight the pain that was attacking me.
“I..I won’t leave you Paula. Don’t cry please. It really breaks my heart to see you this way. Hush! It will all be alright dear.” I said with a cracked voice as I stroked her hair.
My eyes were stinging from held back tears and heart was hurting seriously.
I comforted her till she fell asleep in my arms. I then gently laid back on the bed with her head on my chest.
Once I was sure she was settled in, I kissed her forehead before staring ahead.
I went over all she had said in my head. My mind worked hard to decipher her supposed dream and it was then I came to the conclusion that she had a vision.
Visions.
Those were not unheard of among witches as some could actually foresee the future.
What Paula had seen could possibly be a vision of what would happen during the crowning ceremony. If that was true, that meant I was meant to die.
Death
I wasn’t in the least bit afraid of dying as I knew that the risk came with the job. If you asked me about a month ago if I would gladly die for the werewolf realm, my answer would have been a sure yes.
Now though, I didn’t want to die, not because I was scared for myself but because I afraid of what would happen to Paula if I did.
She had just started coming out of her shell and overcoming he trauma. I couldn’t even to begin to imagine what my death would do to her. Just a dream of my death left her this shaken. The news of my death might completely destroy her.
I made a decision to increase the security around the house as well as perform a thorough scrutiny of my staff. Anyone that is going to be present that day is going to be scrutinized thoroughly
There was something I couldn’t understand about her vision though.
Why would I smile brightly at a shadowy figure? What was that supposed to mean?
Paula clearly said it wasn’t a person.
Why would I allow that shadowy figure to get so close to me to kill me without me noticing? What had enough power to even be present at at the ceremony? What is this shadowy figure? Was it some sort of code or sign?
I felt something nagging at the back of my mind but I just couldn’t place it. I tried my best to focus and dilute the thoughts.
I could almost feel that I was done with unravelling this mystery but Hawke’s voice via the mind-link broke my concentration.
“Alpha” He called
“Shit” I cursed
Why did he have to call me at that moment? I was so close to unravelling the mystery but now I have to start all over again.
“What is it Hawke?” I queried obvious frustration in my tone.
“Alpha, come to the living room quickly. Something is going on that I think you would want to see.” He said and before I could ask what it was, the mind-link was cut off.
The hell? Why would Hawke cut me off?
This was truly bizarre as Hawke had the utmost respect for me. I figured that what happened must be serious and urgent.
I lifted Paula’s head from my chest and placed it on the bed gently before untangling myself from her. Once I was free, I stood up, gave her a kiss on the forehead and proceeded to walk to the living room.
When I got there, I spotted Hawke talking to someone.
“Was this the shocking thing you disturbed me for…………” I trailed off as soon as I saw who he was talking to.
My eyes widened and I stared in shock at the person.
Oh My God.
“Anne”
