“Are you blackmailing me?” I asked in feeling my temper rising.
I couldn’t believe that the sweet Anne that I have always looked out for suddenly turned bad.
I turned to Hawke with a raised eyebrow to ask what the hell was going on but the ass hat just shrugged nonchalantly.
“I’m not at all, Frankie. I have just had it with feeling like I’m a worthless accessory. I already knew that you wouldn’t allow me to help in the pack matters because you don’t trust me!”
“Of course I trust you Anne! If I didn’t, I wouldn’t let you back into the pack especially when…. Forget it.” I started but quickly stopped before I went further.
“No, what is it Frankie? Especially when what? Just say it! Especially When I spent years in Xayden’s dungeon. Especially when I was tortured multiple times over the years in his place. I got tortured because I spilled the beans on him and protect you. When my death was faked and I lost all hope of freedom. When I supposedly came back from the dead and might be a spy sent by Xayden after he had tortured me into submission. Thank you for your superb trust in me. I can see it overflowing from your words.
Guilt swept through me
I knew she was guilt tripping me but it still felt bad as I looked at the hurt in her eyes. She sacrificed so much for Paula to be saved from Xayden and deep down, I couldn’t even trust her.
It was natural instinct as an Alpha King to not easily trust people that stayed in my enemy’s territory. Best friend or not! Her escape story also didn’t add up in the least bit.
I sighed deeply as I pressed my hand on my forehead in frustration.
“Fine. The decision can only be determined by how good your information is. So, please Anne, do lay it on me.”
She looked down at her fingers and I could see she was nervous.
“Well… I found out something about Xayden’s mother.”
Xayden’s mother? Does she mean his mother that had been living in Xayden’s pack ever since my crowning? What is she talking about? Rebecca would never hurt a fly so what is the bad thing she found out?
“What did you find?”
“Well I found out that she was plotting something with Xayden.” She announced.
“What do you mean? How could my sweet step mother plot something with the son she had hated for a long time?”
“I overheard Xayden saying once that his mother had gone on a journey to retrieve an artifact.”
“What are you talking about? Rebecca going to retrieve an artifact? Why?”
“He said that it was for a spell.”
A spell?
“A spell to unlock the gates to the human world.”
“Wait what? What did you just say? Xayden wants to unlock the human world? He surely won’t do that. Are you joking with me? If this is a joke, please stop it as it is so not funny.” I chided in fury as disbelief coursed through me.
Xayden might be a monster that doesnt care about people but that did not mean he is totally bereft of his common sense and leadership sense.
“Yes, he wants to and I think there is a witch working with him to achieve that goal.”
“A witch? Which witch will help him carry out such an evil deed? This will not only harm the werewolf realm but also the witches. I still can’t wrap my head around that fact but I want to know how exactly you found out.”
“Well, I overhead him talking to someone whilst I was locked in my cell. He didnt really care if I listened because I suppose he didnt really think I would escape. I don’t know who it was but I know that Rebecca went to retrieve the artifact on his behalf.”
“What is he going to do? What are his plans? Why is Rebecca helping him? I thought she hated Xayden after when she found out that he was an evil person? Was all that supposed hatred an act?”
The history of my father and Rebecca was a tragic tale of love, hate and brutality.
Before my father was mated to my mother, he was supposed to be betrothed to another.
Rebecca.
She was a normal omega that like most of the maidens in the pack, was fawning over the dominant Alpha King.
Just like I, my father was late in finding his mate and he had no choice than to be betrothed to the best maiden possible.
Rebecca was chosen as the best possible solution to a mateless Alpha King.
Days passed and Rebecca was being treated like the Luna and boy did she love it. She bossed people around and behaved like she was already Luna.
That all stopped when my father held a gathering among werewolves and found his mate to be the daughter of someone from the smaller packs.
My father, just like the brute he was, he took my mother as his supposed Luna and tossed Rebecca out like a piece of trash.
After the initial mating ritual as well as the crowning ritual, my father and mother became Luna and Alpha King. After a year, they had me and soon after my mother died.
My father found Rebecca years later, apologized to her and since she loved him, they mated.
They had Xayden soon after and Rebecca tried her best to make me not feel the pain of my mothers absence. She always berated Xayden when he never tried to accept me and she tried her best to make him get along with me.
When Xayden tried to kill me once, she snapped and told him she hated the sight of a person who would want to murder his own brother. From then, Xayden’s relationship became worse and they couldnt even stay in the same room without turning it into a war zone.
The only reason why Rebecca was staying in Xayden’s pack was because as his mother, she had to stay in the pack he was Alpha of. She swore not to interfere in any of our matters though and so did my dad but as one can see, none of them is holding up their end of the deal.
Who knew it was all an elaborate ploy on her path?
They were working together to create a catastrophe all along.
If Anne’s word was one to go by, I will need to start investigating on what the hell is going on.
“I don’t really know what they were planning because I never fully heard their conversation. The one thing I heard Xayden say prominently was that your father was somehow involved in their planning.”
My father? This is getting even more ridiculous by the moment. I still figured that I would at least humor her.
“Okay Anne. Thank you for the information. You can be rest assured that with this type of information, you can be allowed a position but one at a low standard for now. Well at least till you work your way back to the top. So which job are you requesting?”
“I want to be your personal assistant”
“Wait what?”
“What are you saying? Be my personal assistant? There is no position like that as I have my Beta already to handle my affairs. I do not need a personal assistant.”
Plus, I didn’t need a reason to get close to her everyday as that will just solidify Paula claims of her worming her way back into my life. Also, until I know that she is not bound by any contract whatsoever to help Xayden, I cannot allow her close to the decision-making process.
“I get it Frankie, you don’t trust me and that hurts me but I understand that it is justified. So I am willing to just serve tea and do things that have no hand in pack matters at least till you are able to trust me fully.”
I thought about it carefully as I figured that was the best way to get her off my trail. She would keep serving coffee and hoping for a promotion while I investigate her matter and that of Xayden’s attempt to open the border between the human realm and our realm.
“Fine”
“Wow Frankie, thank you” she squealed before she suddenly pounced on me and hugged me.
I could faintly hear Hawke say something but I was too shocked to hear it.
I was in the process of disentangling her but the door opened and in Paula walked in.
Paula
I was currently waiting for Frankie on the arena. He had asked me to freshen up, come down and wait for him.
I had been waiting for a while now and it was already moving on to two hours now.
“Where is Frankie… Sorry, the Alpha King?”
I had forgotten that I was told to address him as Alpha King outside as I am not yet the Luna.
The werewolf seemed hesitant to answer me and I could swear I saw disdain for me in her eyes but she finally relented.
“The Alpha King was at his study previously but I am not sure if he is still there.”
His study?
Well maybe he wasn’t done with his work yet and forgot to tell me about it.
“Oh, okay. Thank you for your help.” I said before I made up the decision to go and remind him of our session.
He must be super busy seeing as he would stand me up.
I tried to remember the direction to his study and thankfully I was able to find it after getting lost twice.
It could have been worse so I will take it as a little victory.
I knocked and I heard Hawke voice tell me to come in.
When I opened the door though, there was the man that stood me up hugging his supposed female best friend in the study.
“Frankie? What’s going on here?”
