Paula
“Duck!”
I crouched down as fast as I could to avoid the punch that was coming my way.
“Left. Right. Up ” instructions rang out and I followed them down to the tee to avoid being beaten to the ground.
I was currently training my ass out with Frankie and I had to say, he was brutal. Thankfully I was a quick learner so I was able to adapt to his training schedule pretty quickly.
Days had passed since that time I just started training and I had to admit that I had improved a significant amount since that time.
Early morning jogs, stamina training, eating healthier and training both day and night, it had made me stronger than I had ever been before.
I now had more confidence in myself as well as skills. My personality was already out and budding and I felt like a new and improved version of myself.
My relationship with Frankie was also improving drastically and I was so close to finally owning up to my feelings about him. Everything was perfect.
Way too perfect.
I had a nagging feeling that this peace and calmness wouldn’t last.
This feeling has been there since the day I started training with Frankie. That particular night, I had a nightmare about something bad that was coming but I just couldn’t remember what it was.
Frankie told me that all I had said was that ‘The Carnage had Begun’.
‘What the hell would that mean if not that something bad was beginning?’
I knew that I had seen something but I just couldn’t remember and that frustrated me to the core.
I suddenly found myself falling towards the ground but thankfully I was caught.
“Paula, what the hell were you thinking about? You almost fell head first!” Frankie asked with a worried look on his face.
‘That was way too close for my liking.’ I thought as I sighed in relief.
There was a padded mat below me but it still hurt anytime I hit the ground. I knew that it was something I was going to have to endure but it sure did hurt.
“Sorry. I was just thinking about something.” I said as I got up and out of his embrace.
I walked towards the towels that had been put aside for us and cleaned the sheen off my face. I sighed as I stared at the warriors who were scattered across the arena training.
The stares and judgemental looks I got when I first entered the arena had toned down a substantial amount. They seemed to have gotten used to my presence, at least a bit.
“What were you thinking about?” Frankie asked as he walked up to me.
“Well, I was just observing how this people no longer stare down at me anymore. I wonder why exactly” I said in a bid to divert his attention from the nightmares.
I hadn’t really talked about it because I felt that I would seem too paranoid if I started talking about the premonitions I have.
Frankie sighed and looked around. I knew that he didn’t believe what I said but thankfully, be respected my decisions and was trying to give me space to develop on my own.
“Well, that is because my men respect you. Well, at least your fight prowess.” He said.
“Fighting prowess? What are you saying? I’m sure that any one of them can beat me hands down so I don’t think that there is anything worth respecting.”I chimed as I rolled my eyes.
“That is where you are mixing things up Bambi.” Frankie said before he grabbed my hand and pulled me a bit closer to him.
“What am I mixing up? Plus, what exactly are you aiming at? I am really sweaty and I don’t think that this is the place where we should be doing this ” I said as I tried to push him away.
I have still not gotten used to public display of affections and may at times, Frankie would do it just to tease me.
He chuckled and smirked before he leaned in closer to me.
“Well I wasn’t thinking about any of that but since you so desperately brought it in up, I am willing to…. ” He trailed of when I covered his mouth with my hand and shoved him aside.
“Be serious Frankie. I mean what I’m saying.” I said as I gave him the stink eye.
“Fine. Fine. I am not playing around anymore. Don’t be angry Bambi” he chuckled.
I pouted for a bit but soon turned to him when I figured I was being childish.
“Okay, I’m all ears. Why do you think they respect me?” I asked with a raised brow as I folded my arms.
“Well, they are in awe of you rather. That is attributed to the fact that no person has ever displayed such fast learning capabilities as you have over the couple of days. The fact that you are a pregnant and powerless person also adds to their reasons for respecting you. That’s why I guess.”
Everything in the air suddenly felt oddly rejuvenating. I looked at my hand and then back at Frankie.
I beckoned him to come closer and one he did, I leaned in till our lips were almost touching.
He closed his eyes and puckered up and I watched him with a smirk.
“Ugghh!” He groaned once he landed on the floor.
I had flipped him when he had leaned in for a kiss previously.
“What was that for?” He said as he rubbed his head in a bid to numb the pain from the impact when he hit it on the ground.
I crouched down and said in a sultry voice as I used my finger to trace his lips.
“Who’s powerless now? Next time, don’t call me a pregnant and powerless person or you will get more than this.” I commanded before flicking him on the head, standing up and striding away.
I tripped on a rock and it felt like the haze on my mind was lifted up.
Huh? Why was I walking away.
I looked towards Frankie and saw him sitting on the floor.
‘what the hell just happened?’ I said to myself once I was a few feet away from him.
