VINCENT DIDN'T MIND BEING DIFFERENT FROM EVERYONE AROUND HIM. He didn't mind that liplocking with the boys in his grade had been viewed as gross and odd. He didn't mind sometimes getting a punch thrown at him or being called a faggot for it. He never did.
Vincent had figured out that boys made him feel different than girls ever had after he kissed a girl at a school dance when he was twelve. He had danced with her slowly, hands planted on her hips with their faces close to one another until finally, Vincent had leaned in close and attached their lips.
The kiss was short, lasting a mere five seconds before Vincent pulled away, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. He remembered not feeling a thing with the action, not feeling anything except pure boredom and disinterest. He'd ran off to the bathroom and cleaned his mouth out with water, cursing in French about how little he'd enjoyed that.
It was when Vincent was fourteen he'd kissed a boy for the first time and truly felt the electricity everyone spoke so highly about it was romance. When he'd sat beside his sixteen year old neighbor and completely disregarded the video game cutscene playing on the television as he'd turned towards the boy and attached their lips so hard their teeth smacked together.
Rather than not feeling anything like he had with the girl from the school dance, Vincent had felt so so much. And that was when he realized maybe he wasn't the same as everyone else in that field.
Vincent had already been aware he wasn't particularly normal- with his abilities and all- but he thought that, maybe, him being straight could be the one normal thing about him. But, of course, Vincent had to be punished for everything he did.
Once a few people found out about his little outings with classmates, his face would be pushed in a toilet bowl a bit more than usual. He never quite minded when he'd transform into the same kid the next day and get them in trouble.
He never really cared about anything back then, anyway. He'd find himself empty most of the time, and the boys were just pawns in his game to make himself feel something, anything. They worked most of the time. Although, the feelings wore off quickly. Soon enough, Vincent would feel just as empty as he had beforehand.
And sure, he was just a kid when those feelings, or lack thereof, initially began; but his childhood was different than most. His parents rarely spoke to him, he was gay and he had shapeshifting abilities. Odd. All of it was odd.
Vincent had never had real crushes before. Not like regular children would often develop for people around them, in which they'd giggle and blush at the smallest actions. Vincent wasn't familiar with it. He'd never had feelings for the boys he kissed.
With Five Hargreeves, so much was different. Five was unfamiliar as well, foreign and exhilaratingly unique. Maybe it was because Five didn't like Vincent very much anymore, but Vincent found he wanted him more than he'd ever wanted anything in his life. Vincent refused to think of it in a romantic way, however. He supposed he wanted him to be a close friend, someone who would ask him how he was doing occasionally and allow him to ramble on for hours about his endless problems.
Maybe that was why Vincent yearned for Five.
He couldn't explain it even if he wanted to. Couldn't explain the feeling he had when he looked at Five, talked to Five, touched Five. And he'd surely never felt this way about the boy before. He didn't remember ever wanting him so close before during the apocalypse they had been apart of. He couldn't recall ever needing him as much as Vincent had come to in the past day.
It was horrifying. Scarier, arguably, than the images of Vincent dead playing in his mind; which he still hadn't disclosed to Five. He was too worried about what Five's reaction would be. It could really be anything, he supposed.
But Vincent couldn't ask yet even if he wanted to. Luther Hargreeves still stood at the window, awaiting Vincent to move from his seat so he could get into the van.
"Five? What are you-" Luther paused, furrowing his eyebrows at Vincent and gesturing for him to move. Vincent rolled his eyes, getting out of the seat and jumping into the back as Luther struggled to get in the car. "You okay?"
Fives eyes were wide, staring at Luther as he shook his head. "You shouldn't be- how did you find us?" He asked, glancing at Vincent for a moment.
"Um-" Luther started, gesturing to the back, where Klaus suddenly popped out from, Dolores in his arms as he pretended to makeout with her. Vincent let out a laugh, grinning wide at the sight in amusement.
"I love this guy." Vincent pointed out, to which Five shook his head, flipping off Vincent.
"Hey, a little privacy guys." Klaus spoke up, shaking his head with a laugh. "We're really hitting it off back here." He grinned.
"Get out! You can't be here! I'm in the middle of something!" Five yelled, moving to grab Dolores from Klaus, placing her back between the passenger and driver seat.
"Any luck finding your one eye man?" Klaus asked with a wide grin, leaning closer with one arm on Vincent's shoulder. Vincent didn't mind, staying still with a grin on his lips as he glanced at Five.
Five rolled his eyes at the way Klaus and Vincent were standing but shook his head. "No." He whispered.
"What's he talking about?" Luther asked, furrowing his eyebrows. Luther, the dumbass, seemingly could not put two and two together.
"Does it matter? It's Klaus." Five pointed out before sighing. "What do you want, Luther?" He asked, finally looking at Luther.
"Um, so Grace may have had something to do with dad's death. So I need you to come back to the Academy." Luther glanced at Vincent before back at Five. "Alone." He specified. "Alright? It's important."
"You have no concept of what's important." Five chuckled, shaking his head in exasperation.
"Hey! Did I ever tell you guys about the time I waxed my ass with chocolate pudding?" Klaus asked before laughing. "It was so painful!"
Five and Luther both shook their heads, rolling their eyes while Vincent started laughing as well, grinning. "How does that work?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.
"It's actually pretty complicated. I'll email you the instructions." Klaus shrugged, to which Vincent laughed, nodding his head.
"What are you still doing here?" Luther asked Klaus, looking back at him as Klaus gasped overdramatically.
"What? I need an excuse to hang out with my family?" Klaus grinned. "And my son-in-law, of course." He joked, referring to Vincent, who shook his head with a chuckle.
"Shut the fuck up." Five huffed out at the second portion, a slight red tint to his face that couldn't be missed. Vincent decided he'd ask about it later.
"We're trying to have a serious conversation." Luther spoke, glaring at Klaus.
"What, and I'm incapable of being serious? Is that what you're saying?" Klaus asked with a faux hurt expression.
"Luther's got a point." Five spoke, chuckling. "You should get out." He added on, just to clarify. Klaus rolled his eyes, mumbling a "fine" before attempting to pull Vincent with him. "Leave Vincent here." He huffed.
"He'll be back soon, lover boy. Don't worry about your boyfriend, I've got it under control." Klaus grinned with a laugh, still pulling Vincent out of the van before closing it despite Five's protests.
Vincent laughed, shaking his head as he walked with Klaus over to a random store, raising his eyebrow. "What are we doing?" He asked with a chuckle.
"Well getting snacks, of course! I am very hungry." Klaus grinned, shrugging his shoulders as they walked inside the store.
"Ah. With what money?" Vincent chuckled, following Klaus as he began to look around. "Or are we stealing?" He asked with a grin, right as Klaus made an excited sound and grabbed about 10 twinkies.
"Stealing, we are doing." Klaus laughed. "Do it all the time. Getting caught is part of the fun." He shrugged, grabbing a few more things.
Vincent didn't grab much. He grabbed a carton of orange juice-- something he'd missed dearly-- and a few packets of instant coffee for Five, something he definitely would hate; although that was the point.
Once Klaus and Vincent were finished grabbing whatever the hell they wanted, Klaus laughed and stood up on a counter, grinning wide. "Does anyone have drugs?" Klaus asked, blinking when everyone was silent. "Okay tough crowd, guess not. Let's go, Vincent." Klaus laughed, jumping off the counter and beginning to run out of the shop followed by Vincent, the bell in the shop ringing loudly.
"Whooo!" Klaus yelled out, laughing with Vincent, who shook his head as he ran, grinning wide as the shopkeeper ran out of the store, trying to run after them.
"Hey! Stop right now!" The shopkeeper yelled out, pointing at them. He looked pissed off, which only amused Vincent a million times more.
"Hey bitches!" Klaus yelled out at the van, waving at Five and Luther-- who were both watching with wide eyes, Five mostly paying attention to Vincent with bewilderment-- as he ran, dodging a security guard who tried to stop him, whistle blowing.
"You get back here!" The security guard spoke, running after Klaus as Vincent laughed, head thrown back. No one was following him, it seemed no one even noticed he was there. No one except for Five, who was still staring at him with the slightest hint of amusement on his face.
"Hey, get out of the way!" Klaus yelled at a car behind Vincent, who wasn't paying attention to that. He wiggled his eyebrows at Five before bowing with a laugh, waving before walking back over to the van, still surprisingly unspotted.
He chuckled, opening the backdoor of the van and getting inside, placing his things down before moving between Five and Luther. "So? Any revelations?" He joked.
"You're a fucking dumbass." Five glared, but still chuckled anyway, shaking his head.
"You absolutely love me!" Vincent laughed, ruffling Fives hair, who simply pushed Vincent's hand away with a smile, not denying it.
"Uhhhh-" Luther started, furrowing his eyebrow at the overly affectionate action. "Are you two actually dating?" He asked, confused.
"No!" Five exclaimed almost immediately, voice going a bit higher pitched before he cleared his throat. "We're not. Fuck off, Luther. We had our talk, you can go now." He mumbled.
Luther placed his hands up in surrender, chuckling as he got out of the car, bumping his head with a groan before walking off. Vincent grinned, moving to sit back down in the passenger's seat.
"Are we actually dating?" Vincent asked jokingly with a grin, wiggling his eyebrows yet again as he leaned closer, watching as Fives face grew red with embarrassment.
"Wha- fuck off!" Five spluttered out before starting the car. "We're gonna get drunk as fuck." He huffed out.
"Well, alright then."
