CASEY>>>
I was just sitting at lunch, bored out of my mind. Alone, because Miles was off doing who knows what.
I was daydreaming about . . . Well, I don't remember what about. It could've been unicorns for all I know. Anyway, my head was up in the clouds, and there was a huge bang. I shrieked, nearly falling out of my chair.
When I gathered my composure, I looked up to see miles grinning in a way that definitely made my cheeks warm. He had obviously found my unmanly reaction funny. He flopped down across from me. On the table between us was a folded slip of paper, presumably what had made the noise when he slapped it down. I eyed it.
"What is it?"
"It's my phone number. Figured since we hang out this much it only makes sense, right?"
I sigh, "I guess. But you didn't have to make it all dramatic like that."
"No, but it was way better like that, wasn't it?" he said pointedly.
I dejectedly nodded, it was far better than just giving it to me normally.
I picked it up and put it into my phone, texting him. His phone responded with a chicken noise, his default ringtone.
I tried to contain my smile as I shook my head at his sense of humor
In my phone I changed his name to Smiles.
That day after school, we were hanging out at Miles' house again, as it was becoming more common. We were watching a movie on his computer, some action movie I wasn't really paying much attention to.
In my defense, we were basically cuddling. I wouldn't actually call it that cause we were just sitting kinda close. But hey, in my mind, that was pretty much cuddling.
A fight scene came on and it kinda reminded me of miles. How violent he could be wasn't something he really liked all that much, or at all honestly. I liked to avoid violence when I could. then the thought occurred to me that he might not know that he hummed when he fought.
I cleared my throat, "hey Miles?"
He paused the movie and looked up at me. "Yeah?"
"Did you know that you hum when you fight?"
"I do?" He seemed surprised.
I nodded. "I really don't like it when you fight but yeah, last time I saw you fight you were definitely humming something."
Miles seemed thoughtful. "Interesting . . . why don't you like it when I fight?"
I sighed, "well you know, I just usually avoid violence at all costs in general. I feel like it's so pointless when you could solve the problem so much easier with words, you know? And plus . . . I'm afraid you'll get hurt."
"Awww, Caseys worried about me." he teased and I slapped his shoulder.
He let out a heavy breath and said, "but on a more serious note, there are definitely better ways to solve problems. But. . . when I get mad . . ." he paused and met my eyes. "I just kinda lost control, you know? And . . . in all honesty, I-" he flattered, seeming to try and find the right words.
"I always feel like a jerk afterwards." As soon as he said it, he quickly turned away and unpaused the movie. "Anyway."
I sighed and leaned back against the wall, thinking about his words.
