"you're not punching hard enough!"
it was a saturday afternoon and y/n was training with her mom. she's been in the hot training room ever since early morning and as usual, her mom was making her work beyond her limits. "come on y/n, give me all you got!" her mom yelled for her to attack for the hundredth time that day. y/n had enough of training, but she knew she couldn't say that out loud.
so she did what her mother asked. her attempt at throwing a strong punch didn't do so well, it was weak and didn't even hurt one bit. "what hell was that?" her mom asked after being "punched" by her daughter. "you said give it my all and that's all i could give." y/n said out of breath. "you ain't have to say it with all the attitude.." her mom reiterated. the girl didn't reply, she just sat there and tried to catch her breath. "i guess you can take a ten-minute break." [mother's name] said before walking out of the room.
'thank goodness.' the tired girl thought as she laid on the floor. her bones ached and her sweat caused her clothes to stick to her skin. she closed her eyes and tried to catch a nap. emphasis on tried. "i didn't say you could sleep for ten minutes!" she shot her eyes open at the sound of her mom's voice. reluctantly she got up and noticed her mom was drinking from an ice-cold cup of water. that's when she realized how dry her mouth was.
"may i get some water for myself?" she asked still eyeing the cold glass her mother held. "yes, but be snappy." y/n quickly left the room and made her way to the kitchen. once there she grabbed a glass from the cabinet and proceeded to fill it with ice and water from the fridge.
she took slow sips, trying to savor it because she knew she probably wouldn't be able to do it again for another couple of hours. "y/n get your ass back in here!" she rolled her eyes and gulped down the rest of the water, almost choking. she placed the now empty glass down and rushed back to the training room.
'time for more hours of hell'
y/n was now laying down on the floor, trying to catch her breath. [mothers name] was called into work, so she was done with training for the day. 'i could just go to sleep right here.' she thought, closing her eyes.
"there you are."
y/n opened her eyes, slightly startled by the voice. she looked towards where it came from and saw her dad standing at the door. she raised a brow at him before speaking. "i thought you were still at work."
"i finished the mission early." he said, watching y/n stumble as she got up off the floor. "don't fall now." he said as he rushed to her side. slowly and carefully, he helped y/n out of the training room. the cold air of the house felt like heaven compared to the hot room she was just in. "where you trying to go?" he asked. "my room." she muttered.
he nodded and led y/n to her room. once inside, she sat on her desk chair. "this came in the mail today." [father's name] said excitedly, as he handed her an envelope. she grabbed it and examined it, running a finger along the lettering on the front.
u.a.
"i'll go get you some water while you open that." [father's name] said as he headed out of the room, closing it behind him. y/n looked back at the letter. she was scared and excited since whatever was inside of it, determined her future.
y/n took a deep breath and slowly opened the envelope. a disk-like thing came out of it and fell onto the floor. "what is this?" she asked as a hologram popped out of it.
"young l/n!" the hologram of allmight spoke. "you did an outstanding job during the entrance exams! so outstanding that you tied in 1st place with katsuki bakugo!" a picture of the kid she bumped into at the exam flashed onto the screen.
interesting.
"you passed with flying colors, so you y/n l/n are accepted into u.a! welcome for this will be your hero academia!"
it was the first day of u.a. and y/n was currently running to the train station to meet her friends ochaco and tobio. she had woke up later than she would've liked because her nerves kept her up for most of the night. she had quickly got ready that morning and rushed out of the house without saying bye to her parents or eating breakfast.
"y/n!" ochaco called out to her friend once she saw her fro bouncing as she ran. "i made it." the girl said between breaths. "did you run all the way here?" tobio asked. "yea, i would've been late if i didn't." she said as she dried up her sweat with her quirk. "you stayed up all night?" ochaco asked, receiving a nod in reply. "not you pulling an all-nighter, couldn't be me." tobio said.
"fuck you tobio." y/n spoke, sending a glare in his direction. "please do y/n~." he teased in a flirtatious manner, causing y/n to splash water on him. "i'd rather not catch whatever disease you have, thank you very much." she said. "my uniform!" he cried. "and i don't have a disease for your information!" y/n hid a laugh, before mumbling a "sure."
ochaco was just giggling watching her two friends interact as usual. "i can dry your uniform for you." y/n told the boy who was "crying". "no i don't need your help." he said dramatically. "ok. let's go ochaco." she walked towards the train with the brunette. "hey don't leave me here!" tobio shouted as he raced after the two girls.
the train stopped and the three teens got off. they made their way to the large school. "my uniform is still wet n/n!" tobio groaned. "i told you i'd dry it, but you refused." y/n said. "you should've taken the chance when she gave it to you." ochaco added, causing the boy to pout. "can you dry it for me now?"
"only if you buy me something from the vending machine." y/n said looking over at the boy. tobio sighed before speaking. "fine, i'll buy you something." y/n smiled. "good, now standstill." he did what he was told and she used hot air to dry his uniform. "ah that's too hot!" he cried. "oops sorry." she sarcastically said.
"you're like a hand dryer." tobio said laughing. "don't make me punch you." she stated, glaring at him. "do it, you won't." he teased, causing her to give him a hard punch to the stomach. "ah damn! i'm sorry!" he cried. "mhmm." she hummed before she finished drying him. and with that, the trio resumed their journey towards the school.
after a short walk up the hill, they all made it to the school, and as promised tobio bought y/n something from the vending machine. they were currently looking for classroom 1-a. "there it goes!" y/n shouted once she spotted the large door. she threw away her empty granola bar wrapper and they made their way over to the classroom.
they noticed a student standing outside of it. "isn't that the kid you saved from falling during the entrance exam ochaco?" y/n asked her brown-haired friend. "yea, i'm happy he got in, i didn't think he would."
"damn you ain't have no faith in him?" y/n asked. ochaco waved her hands around and shook her head. "no, it's just that he broke his arm and legs and he didn't get any points, so i thought he wouldn't pass." y/n and tobio's eyes widened in shock. "what the hell." is all they could say.
tobio walked up to the green-haired kid. "hey broken bones, you going to go in the classroom or not?" the two girls ran up to him, y/n slapped the back of his head and ochaco comforted the kid. "tobio you can't go around calling people broken bones!"
"oww!"
"say sorry right now!"
"sorry!"
"n-no it's ok." the green-haired boy reassured. "see look he said it's ok y/n." tobio said. she resisted the urge to slap him again. "i- never mind." she turned to the door. "let's just go inside." she pushed past them and opened the door. it was very loud in the room. everyone was chatting and some people were sitting at the desks. the strict kid from the entrance exams walked up to them.
"why is he in our class?" y/n asked, slightly glaring at the approaching kid. "we don't have to talk to him." tobio said while grabbing her arm and pulling her towards the back of the classroom. "we can't just leave ochaco over there." she said looking back to see that her friend was talking to the green-haired boy and the glasses kid. "she'll be alright." he said.
"fine." she mumbled, then turned back around and made eye contact with a familiar face. their hair was half red half white and they had heterochromatic eyes. one thing that she didn't remember was a scar on the left side of their face.
"shoto?" she asked and stopped walking. she could see a little bit of shock in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared. he didn't say anything to her. he looked away pretending like he never saw her.
she was about to speak again, but to her disadvantage, the teacher came into the class. she rushed to a seat which just so happened to be behind shoto. she wasn't able to focus on what was being said. all she could do was think about why wasn't shoto talking to her. they are childhood best friends, right? did endeavor or her mom have something to do with it?
she snapped out of her thoughts when ochaco tapped her shoulder. she looked up and saw her two friends standing in front of her desk. "come on we have to go to the field for a quirk apprehension test." tobio said.
she nodded and got up. the half and half boy looked back at her and they made eye contact. she smiled at him, but he looked away and left the classroom. ochaco and tobio noticed the exchange between the childhood friends. they felt sorry for y/n.
tobio was about to speak to todoroki, but ochaco stopped him. "you'll just make things worse." he sighed knowing that she was right. "i'm fine guys don't worry. let's just go." y/n said not wanting them to dwell on the situation any longer. she gave them a fake smile hoping that they'll believe it. they didn't, but they smiled back at her, then looked at each other with concern.
