"you alright dude?"
kirishima asked todoroki in the locker room. todoroki looked at the red head and tilted his head in confusion. "what do you mean?" he asked.
"you look lost."
"lost? i know where i am." he said not fully understanding. kirishima laughed, which made shoto furrow his brows. "what are you laughing at?"
"i didn't know you had a sense of humor todoroki." "i don't." kirishima deadpanned. "good talk." he said before taking his leave.
todoroki blinked and just continued to put on his hero costume, not thinking twice about what kirishima had just said.
what was he thinking about before? ah, now he remembered. y/n l/n. the girl he thought he'd never see again. the girl who he missed those past 10 years. yes he was glad that they found each other, but he had no time for friends.
|field gamma - 3rd pov|
the quirk assessment was over and everyone was searching for their name to see what place they were in. their teacher, mr.aizawa, said that who ever came in last would be expelled. that didn't bother y/n because she knew it was a lie. she heard worried murmurs come from her classmates, as she scanned the board for her name and wondered how they didn't know that it was a lie.
y/n l/n - 4th
'not bad.' she thought after seeing her placement. "yes, i'm not getting expelled!" she overheard tobio cheering because he got 9th. "y/n~" she turned towards the taller/shorter male and quirked an eyebrow.
"hmm?"
"congrats! you got 4th."
he raised a hand wanting to give the girl a high five. she lifted her hand and tapped it against his, but found it difficult to pull away because he had interlocked his fingers with hers.
this wasn't anything new, tobio is a touchy person, but she didn't want anyone thinking that they were together. so, she tried to pull her hand from his. he wouldn't let go though, since he seemed to be glaring at something no- he was glaring at someone. y/n turned to see who was at the end of tobio's stare and saw that it was no other than mister half cold half hot himself. how great
shoto was glaring back at the black and blue haired male, but once he saw y/n look his way, his expression softened and he locked eyes with her. he admired her face, taking note that she had grown to a be, in his opinion, a beautiful young woman. he loved how the sun always made her brown skin look heavenly. his eyes took the time to scan her matured body.
respectfully. he thought.
he didn't think he was being creepy, but tobio noticed how uncomfortable his friend was feeling because of shoto's stare. so, he took matters into his own hands. "oi scarface, stop eye fucking my friend!" tobio shouted as he angrily stomped over to his dual-haired classmate. "tobio no!" y/n shouted trying to stop him. he didn't listen though.
he stopped in front of shoto and noticed the slight height difference. that didn't faze him though. shoto stopped looking at y/n and instead looked down at the angered boy in front of him. his expression neutral as he asked, "what is eye fucking?"
is he serious? tobio thought as he tried not to laugh. "i'm not explaining shit to you! i just came over here to tell you to stop staring at y/n if your not going to talk to her!" todoroki looked between tobio and y/n before replying."i can talk to her." that caused tobio to perk up thinking that maybe shoto wasn't a lost cause, but deadpanned after the next sentence that the duel-hairs boy said.
"what does she need to talk about?" that made tobio knit his eyebrows together. did shoto really not understand that tobio was hinting at the fact that he should try to catch up with his childhood best friend? how dense is this boy?
"nothing." tobio said before he was pulled back by y/n. a quiet "s-sorry shoto" was uttered by the flustered girl. "actually l/n, it's todoroki." shoto said making her stop and look at him. she was confused. "aren't we friends though?" his face changed from it's neutral state to a slight scowl. "we might've been before, but not anymore. i have no need friends."
y/n didn't know how to feel. "huh? but sho- todoroki, how could you just do that?"
"do what?"
she scoffed at his question. "fuck you." she gave tobio a look so he knew not to say anything and walked away. tobio looked back and forth between the ex-childhood best friends. he didn't know what just happened, but he did know that he was mad at todoroki. he gave his classmate one good glare and stuck his middle finger up at him before following y/n.
todoroki stood there confused. he didn't know what he did wrong. wasn't the main reason for the class they were in to become a hero? not to make friends?
i was currently at home on a video call with ochaco and tobio. we're talking about school and other random stuff that we can think of. my mom wasn't home, so i don't gotta train and my dad is on a mission, so i'm alone. i'm fine with it though, since i get more time to myself.
"ochaco~ what's that green haired boy's name?" tobio asked with a smirk on his face. her face got a little red.
"o-oh it's deku."
deku? a confused look spread across my face. "that's his real name?" i asked. "i think so. i mean that's what the angry kid calls him." she said. "you mean the angry kid that tried to kill him during the quirk assessment?" tobio asked, receiving a nod in reply. "i don't think that's his real name then and doesn't it mean useless?"
"really? oh i've been calling him that all day. i feel bad." she said looking down. "just apologize and ask him tomorrow." i suggested. "ok, i will."
i got up and made my way to the kitchen to get something to drink. on my way there, i passed the living room and overheard something on the tv that made me do a double take.
"what? no no no they're lying!" i couldn't believe what was being said, but as i continue to stare at the screen, it became more and more real. "what happened y/n?" ochaco asked, her voice filled with concern. "t-the news! turn on the news!" i replied, my voice breaking in the process. my eyes were glued to the tv as i watched it intently, trying to get as much information as i could.

"what fucking hospital!?" i shouted as the tv as my eyes started to water. "calm down y/n." tobio said, in a soothing voice, but it didn't help. i looked at my phone and saw that he was looking at me with eyes full of worry and ochaco was crying.
"how am i supposed to calm down when my dad could be on the verge of death?!" i asked. then it hit me, the one person in my life that is a true hero to me, could really be dying. the thought clouded my mind, making my eyes get even more watery.

"hosu city?" i asked no one in particular. i went to the maps app on my phone and searched for hospitals and found one that was near the place that the mission took place. "i think this it." i got up grabbed my coat, threw my shoes on and ran out the door.
"where you are going?" tobio asked. "the hospital." i replied as i made my way to the train station. "which one?" ochaco asked, wiping her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater. "hosu city central hospital." i said, taking a break from running to catch my breath, then taking off once more.
"that's far y/n. i can ask my moms if we can take you." tobio said. "no." i looked down at my phone to see him moving around his room. "that'll take too long and i already wasted time." he stopped and looked at the camera. "what about your mom?" he asked.
i looked back up at the street before replying. "she isn't at home." then back at the phone to see him closer to the screen. "call her." he suggested. when i didn't answer, i saw a slight frown appear on his face. to be honest, i didn't feel like calling my mom. even if i did, she probably won't even pick up.
she probably doesn't even know that dad is in the hospital. if she does know, she probably doesn't care. she hasn't been at home as often, said it was hero work. that didn't make sense to me though, since she would always come home drunk. "my phone is about to die, so i'll text you guys everything once i find a charger." i lied.
"stop lying." tobio said. "i'm serious. my phone is at 1%. bye talk to you guys later."
"y/-!"
*ding*
i hung up before he could continue. "he doesn't need to know." i mumbled to myself. the only person that i've told about my parents is ochaco. she's even heard and seen an argument more than once. 'that's why i don't have sleepovers anymore.'
after a while, i finally made it to the train station. i bought a ticket, then sat on one of the benches. in an attempt to calm the anxious feeling i had, i tried calming myself.
just breath
count to 10
breath
count to 20
keep going and repeat
it only worked a little since my mind was flooded with the idea of my dad barely making it. eventually it was time for me to get on the train. I sat in a window seat and stared out at the city, taking in the scenery as the train made its way to hosu city.
hours passed and the train finally stopped in hosu. i rushed out and pulled the map back up on my phone. it was a thirty minute walk from the train station. if i run it'll probably only take fifteen.
so that's what i did. i ran as fast as my feet would let me. only stopping when i couldn't cross the street because of oncoming traffic. i'd catch my breath and look at my phone to know how close i was, then once the cars stopped, i sped off again.
i slowed down once i spotted the hospital. there were multiple reporters and police officers standing outside of it, so i was able to slip inside the hospital without getting noticed. i walked up to the front desk. "excuse me." i called out to the receptionist.
"hello, how may i help you?" the lady spoke as she typed away at her computer, not sparing me glance. "i'm here to see the pro hero elemental."
"are you a fan of his?" she asked, her eyes still glued to her computer. "no i'm his daughter." i said, causing her to finally look at me. her eyes were wide. "elemental has a daughter?" she asked and only i nodded in response.
"where's your mother?"
"i-" i was cut off by another voice. "right here." my mom spoke from behind me. i turned around surprised that she was even there. she was wearing her hero costume and her eyes were red and puffy.
'was she crying?'
"pro hero canary!" the nurse exclaimed. "i'll take you both to his room." she got up and made her way to the elevators. my mom and i followed her onto the elevator. the ride was silent and awkward. the tense air never left as we walked off of the elevator. "just down this hallway." the lady said as she rushed to the room.
the only thing that could be heard was the sound of our shoes hitting the floor and the distant beeps of the multiple machines inside the hospital. my heart started to feel heavier and it was getting harder to breath as we grew closer to the room. "calm down." my mom whispered to me. i nodded and attempted to calm myself.
"this is it." the nurse said as she stopped in front of a door, there were many flowers, cards, and balloons littered by the door. probably from fans. "thank you." my mom said. "mhmm." the nurse left. once the clacking of her heels were farther away, my mom opened the door and went inside, i followed closer behind her.
the sight of my father hooked up to many machines made us stop walking. "oh my god." my moms voice was shaking as she spoke. i was speechless and close to tears as i looked at him laying there, he was asleep, but his face looked pained.
"dad?" tears slipped out of my eyes as i slowly made my way over to the side of the hospital bed. i cautiously grabbed his hand and my heart dropped, it felt cold. his comforting warmth was gone. i sobbed quietly, tears staining the white sheets. someone gave me a side hug and i could tell that they were crying as well. i looked and realized that it was my mom.
i let go of my dads hand and pulled my mom into a proper hug. we stood there holding each other as we let everything out. no words had to be said because we already knew how the other was feeling.
the past couple of days have been a blur. y/n's dad had woken up and she stayed at the hospital with him. the doctors said that the surgery he had prevented any chance of death, but he could possibly end up paralyzed from the waist down.
y/n didn't take the news so well. she was overwhelmed with emotions and ended up passing out. as for her mom, she was internally freaking out, but knew she had to remain calm. her mom would visit the hospital and bring food and clothes for y/n to change into, but wouldn't stay there for long.
she had a feeling of guilt hanging over her because she was supposed to be helping [father's name] with the mission. they had an argument before it could even start and ended up going their separate ways.
she feels as if she could've prevented the incident if she didn't start the petty argument. that if she hadn't brought up endeavors name in the conversation, then none of this would have happened. the funny thing is, that's exactly who she ran to for comfort.
no, she's not cheating. her and endeavor go way back. they knew each other in middle school and went to u.a. together. he wasn't one for friends and would constantly push her away, but she never left his side. he was someone that she could talk to about anything and was there for her when her mom passed away from cancer during their first year at u.a.
she was there for him as well. when his oldest son, touya todoroki, "died" she comforted him. she never knew what was going on behind the scenes at the todoroki residence. when she found out that rei was put into a mental hospital, she was shocked. never once had she thought something like that would happen.
when endeavor told her that shoto couldn't spend time with y/n anymore, she pleaded with him. being the stubborn man he is, that didn't work. he told her, "your daughter is too weak. maybe once she proves her strength, then they can communicate again."
of course she defended y/n, that's her baby and nobody talks bad about her baby. "excuse me!? i know you didn't just call my little girl weak!"
"i was telling you the truth [mother's name]!"
"no you weren't! you know what? don't talk to me."
she cut endeavor off, but when she needed someone to comfort her, she caved in and went back to him. you would think that she would go to her husband for comfort right? well she's tried multiple times, but thinks that she would be too vulnerable, so she backs out at the last minute. her own insecurities causes her to drift away from her family.
the nights that she comes home drunk, are nights that she was out with endeavor just drinking and letting everything out.
that's her therapy.
it's not the best, but it's all she has.
y/n told her dad all bout how her first day of school was and about shoto. he said that shoto most likely missed her as much as she missed him and that she should be patient.
ochaco and tobio would go to the hospital every day after school to bring y/n any homework that they may have and tell her about what they learned in class.
she missed the mock battles and the usj attack. she almost ran all the way to u.a. when she saw the news report on the attack, but was held back by the nurses at the hospital.
she tried calling and texting ochaco and tobio multiple times, but it wasn't until late that she finally got through to them. she was crying, yelling, and going through a range of even more emotions.
her dad could see how even more stressed it made his daughter, so he suggested she go home and actually get rest. "then come back to the hospital?" she asked.
"no, go to school."
so that's where she is now, standing outside of the door of classroom 1-a, five minutes late. she really didn't want to go in. if she did then all of her classmates would see how emotionally drained she was and too many questions would be asked.
it's now or never
she took a deep breath and was about to head back home, but to her demise, a way too happy red head opened the door. "hey guys look l/n is back!" kirishima shouted out to his classmates. she sighed and walked into the class. all eyes were on her. "you're late." her teacher spoke.
she looked up at him and her eyes widened, he was covered in bandages. "mr.aizawa are you ok?" her voice croaked. her throat was dry and scratchy from all the crying and yelling she's done.
"i could ask you the same thing." although he didn't show it, mr. aizawa was concerned about y/n. so, when she lied and said, "i'm fine." he knew that it was a lie. he only sighed as y/n turned around and made her way to her desk, trying to avoid everyone's stare.
ochaco and tobio gave each other worried glances. todoroki saw the state that she was in and wondered what had happened. bakugo didn't watch her go to her seat, but noticed everyone else did. "stop fucking staring at her! fucking extras!"
the hothead didn't say that to try and be nice, he just wanted class to resume. it shocked everyone though. y/n looked over her shoulder to give him a thankful look, but he was too focused on the front of the classroom, so she decided to thank him later.
as soon as she plopped down in her seat, a note was passed to her. she looked around for who gave it and saw ochaco looking at her. she opened it.

after reading it she looked at ochaco and mouthed a "thanks". the brunette nodded and smiled. the both of them turned their attention to their sleep deprived teacher. "you're fight isn't over." that's the first thing that mr.aizawa said. y/n was about to dropout right then and there. "it's time for the sports festival."
a mix of cheers and groans were spread across the room. "is it really safe enough to have it right after we were attacked?" jirou asked. "i was thinking the same thing, but the principal wants us to show that a couple of villains can't scare us." mr. aizawa said.
"that doesn't even make sense." y/n muttered under her breath. todoroki overheard and turned around to look at her.
she felt his stare and looked up. "what?" she asked mad that he had the audacity to even look at her.
"i agree with what you said." he said monotone as ever. she was confused. why did he feel the need to tell her that? "you're one confusing human todoroki."
"how so?" he asked tilting his head. "you contradict yourself by saying you don't want friends and then still talk to me anyway."
"can i not talk to a fellow classmate?" she scoffed and looked away from him. "i guess you can." satisfied with her answer, todoroki turned back around.
she didn't feel the same way. she wanted to be more than just a fellow classmate. she wanted to be best friends like they were before. possibly even more than that. a headache started to form, so she laid her head down on her desk. sleep overcame her as she stared out the window.
mr. aizawa noticed that she was napping, but he allowed it. he even gave everyone a free period and crawled into his sleeping bag to take a nap of his own. it was the quietest free period that class 1-a ever had. everyone, not even bakugo, shouted or made a lot of noise. that was the most that they could do to show that they cared.
it was the end of the day and everyone was talking about the sports festival. some were excited, others indifferent. y/n was in between. when mr. aizawa had mentioned that they would be scouted by pros, she started to get more interested in it.
she was also still worried about her dad. since there's a chance that he may not be able to walk again, he would most likely have to retire from being a hero. he told her not to worry much about it and just focus on school. that's kind of hard for her to do, but she's trying.
"n/n, you excited for the sports festival?" ochaco asked her.
the y/n shrugged her shoulders. "i'm really not sure ocha." "well i know that you'll do awesome!" the brunette's enthusiasm was a little too much for y/n. she winced a little at her friends voice and uttered a, "thanks."
*Ring*
she got up and grabbed her stuff as the final bell of the day rung. she made her way towards the door, but couldn't leave the classroom due to a group of students standing in the way. "the fuck is going on?" she mumbled under her breath.
"they're scouting out the competition." bakugo's gruff voice spoke. he stood next to her in front of the door looking irritated. "really?" she didn't have time for this, she wanted to get to the hospital as soon as possible.
"now move it extras." the angered blonde said to the crowd of students. "yea get the fuck on!" tobio shouted, stomping his way to the door.
"i don't normally agree with him, but please move out of the way." y/n said as she gestured towards the tobio. "you can't just do that bakugo, yamada, and l/n!" iida shouted as he, ochaco, and midoriya freaked out.
"how sad to come here and find a bunch of egomaniacs." a indigo haired boy who looked like he hadn't slept in days stepped to the front. "egomaniacs? you got some nerve!" y/n stepped in front of him and stared down/up into his purple eyes.
he looked at her tempted to use his quirk, but decided against it. "i wanted to be in the hero course.." he pushed her to the side as he spoke. "..but like many others here i was forced to choose a different track."
"i know you didn't." she was going to rush towards him, but was held back by tobio. "let me get one good hit in!" the kid chuckled at her actions causing her to furrow her brows in anger.
"you know, if any of us do well at the sports festival, the teachers can transfer one of us into the hero course and replace one of you." he looked at y/n, then bakugo. "like hell that'll happen!" tobio said still holding y/n back.
"tch. i don't care just get out of my way." bakugo said. "hey, i came here to see the class that defeated real villains, but it just seems like you guys are some condescending brats!" a silver haired student shouted.
"man fuck this" y/n got out of tobio's grip and slipped out of the classroom through the crowd of students. the students were yelling at her as she walked away, but she could care less. she kept making her way towards the exist. it wasn't until she got into a quieter hallway that she heard a second pair of footsteps behind her.
she turned around and saw bakugo. then she remembered that she never said thank you for what he did earlier that day. "hey bakugo." she stopped and waited for him to get next to her. he didn't stop though, he walked right past her.
"um bakugo?" she caught up with him and tapped his shoulder. he looked her way with an irritated expression. "what?" he spat out causing her to jump a bit.
"i just wanted to say thank you."
"for what?"
"for telling everyone to stop looking at me earlier."
"tch. i wasn't doing that for you."
she scrunched her face up in confusion. "then who? you know what never mind."
silence fell as the two kept walking. it was comfortable. they soon made it to the front of the school and parted ways. "see ya bakugo!" she shouted waving at the boy. "yea whatever." he said not looking back.
"you're gonna do great at the sports festival princess." my dad exclaimed once i told him about the upcoming event. "we'll see." i said swirling my fry around in sauce before eating it. i had stopped at [fast food place] before coming to the hospital.
i looked at my dad and he had a distracted look in his eyes. "what's up?" i asked. he looked my way and shook his head. "it's nothing."
"you're lying. is it mom?" he looked away from me. "it is." i dusted the crumbs off of my hands and grabbed his squeezing it. "she probably just needs some time." he nodded and squeezed back. "you're most likely right, she was always one to run away from things like this."
"i'm always right dad."
he laughed. "don't let it get to your head now." he let go of my hand and grabbed one of my fries. "hey that's mine!" i shouted. "not anymore!" he said as he ate it.
"so mean." i folded my arms and looked away from
him dramatically. he laughed at my actions before speaking again. "guess what princess!" he said getting excited and changing the subject.
"what?" i asked. "they plan on releasing me soon!"
"really?" i asked, my eyes widening in excitement. he nodded. "that's awesome dad!" i cheered.
"yup and there's a chance that i can walk again, i just have to do some physical therapy."
"we gotta have a big celebration."
"i like that idea."
we spent the rest of the time planning out the big celebration. it'll most likely just be a movie marathon night with all of the good snacks. it became nightfall and i had to leave because visiting hours were over. i said bye to my dad and wished him a good night, before making my way out of the hospital.
i was sitting on the train making my way back home. i grabbed my phone out of my book bag and my eyes widened at the amount of notifications.
