Veronica strained to lift her head and catch a glimpse of what was outside the window, but she had no idea where the spaceship was taking them.
Everything outside was pitch black, like they were wrapped in a thick black bag. The only bit of light came from the faint glow of the display screen on the cockpit dashboard.
She tried to shift her body, but the ropes had her tied up so tightly she couldn't budge. She wasn't even sure if her psychic power could break her free. Right before getting captured, she had blasted Matthew's tentacles off her.
She wondered, 'I don't even know how Matthew and the others are doing right now. There's no way to tell time here—I've completely lost track of how long I've been taken. Joshua must be freaking out. I have to figure something out.'
Just as Veronica was about to activate her psychic power, the cabin lights snapped on, flooding the place like daylight.
She squinted on instinct, her eyes welling up. After staying in darkness for so long, the sudden brightness stung like needles. Then, heavy, dull footsteps stopped right in front of her.
Veronica turned her face slightly, trying to avoid the blinding light, but because the person was backlit, she couldn't see his face at all. Still, she could tell he was tall—his figure cast a looming shadow over her.
The man, Aaron Price, crouched down and grabbed her chin roughly, forcing her to look up. Her tears were still clinging to the corners of her eyes. The way he jerked her face made her jaw throb with pain.
"Another delicate little female," he said, and the voice that came out of his mouth was a soft, boyish tenor that didn't match his build at all.
"Huh?" Aaron let out a surprised grunt.
He felt the signs of his primal regression suddenly being suppressed by some unknown force. The scales that had almost broken through his skin actually began to recede the moment he touched the female in front of him. He realized instantly—this one wasn't ordinary.
Rumors about the S-level female had been circulating like wildfire lately, and it didn't take much for him to make the connection to this female. His heart started pounding, a rush of excitement flooding through him.
He couldn't help but laugh. "This is almost too easy. Now, what should I do with you?" he said, squatting in front of her. "Maybe I should just kill you. You're probably not gonna fall in line anyway."
He crouched in front of her, a sly glint flickering in his eyes. He was weighing how to deal with this female—after all, with the kind of power and potential she held, if he could win her loyalty, his own strength would grow even greater.
But he gave up on that idea almost right away. He knew full well Veronica wasn't going to be tamed so easily.
Females were pampered from birth, let alone an S-level female. If she refused to serve him, then she'd be nothing but an enemy, a threat he couldn't afford to ignore.
The thought made him sneer. He had already made up his mind—he was going to kill Veronica and eliminate the threat for good.
He reached out, ready to strike. But just then, a surge of overwhelming power burst from Veronica, hitting him with such intensity that his chest tightened. Even so, he couldn't stop. He had to get rid of her.
Aaron turned slightly and gave a command to someone nearby. Then a beastman stepped forward, carrying a tray. Resting on it was a black crystal, its dark surface shimmering with iridescent specks of light.
He picked up the crystal and moved to place it in front of Veronica. This type of crystal was a recent discovery, designed specifically to deal with females. It could drain their psychic power, causing brief disorientation.
Sensing something was wrong, Veronica quickly spoke up, "What do you want? I can give you anything."
