The two of them were always gossiping about something—whether it was the latest rumors, their friends' antics, everyday stuff, or whatever was trending in the Central District. Nothing was off-limits.
Their energy and nonstop chatter always seemed to draw people in. Anyone nearby couldn't help but want to eavesdrop a little just to catch what they were talking about.
But they never quite realized how loud they were, nor did they often notice there were other people around.
Every now and then, someone who couldn't stand it would throw them a snide comment or two, but even that didn't faze them. They stayed upbeat and cheerful, still getting along with everyone around them.
They knew their talkative nature might be a bit much for some, but they also believed it made them more approachable and likable.
Emilia was the first to speak, "Joshua, since you're finally here, and I just got to know Veronica, why don't we all grab a bite together?" She gave her chest a confident pat. "It's on me."
Veronica couldn't help laughing. She figured Emilia must be the kind of person a lot of people liked—genuine, warm, and generous.
She said, "Sure. I've been eating nothing but nutrition packs at the Central District for the past few days. I'm starting to forget what real food tastes like. If you've got any good recommendations, Emi, I'm all ears."
Emilia walked over excitedly and hooked her arm through Veronica's, grinning smugly. "You asked the right person. I might not know much about other things, but when it comes to food, I'm absolutely number one.
"Come on, I'll take you to Illusia's Garden. All the dishes there are Illusia-style, way better than the stuff they serve around here.
"Like the sautéed beetroots—tender and fresh, full of aroma. Or the steamed sunchokes—plump and sweet without being heavy. And don't get me started on the spicy roasted celeriac —just the right amount of heat, totally addictive."
She went on and on with so much enthusiasm that Veronica was left wide-eyed in shock. She'd never even heard of those dishes before.
Noticing her surprise, Emilia wiped the corner of her mouth and gave a proud little laugh. "Ugh, I'm making myself hungry just talking about it.
"Illusia's food still isn't as good as where I used to live, but it's miles better than anything in places like Snakehaven or the Central District."
Veronica was intrigued. Something about that caught her attention, and she asked curiously, "You weren't in the Central District before either?"
Emilia paused for a second, caught off guard by the question.
Gabriel suddenly cut in from the side, "Ms. Byrne, don't listen to her nonsense. She's been in the Central District since birth. She's never been anywhere else.
"She's always bragging about how she used to live somewhere else and tasted all kinds of amazing food. It's all just her talking big."
Emilia was instantly riled up by his words and snapped back, "Gabriel, do you want me to kick your ass or something? I've told you so many times and you still don't believe me?"
Watching her all worked up, Veronica couldn't help but feel a strange suspicion rising in her chest. She wondered, 'Could Emilia be hiding some kind of secret too, just like me?'
The idea made her incredibly curious. She decided that if she ever got the chance, she'd definitely try to ask Emilia about it.
The four of them followed Emilia to Illusia's Garden, and the moment Veronica saw it, she was stunned—it looked exactly like a tavern from the Ancient Earth.
She thought, 'Could there be other transmigrators here?'
As they reached the entrance, Emilia introduced it cheerfully. "This building was modeled after architecture from the Ancient Earth, hundreds of millions of years ago."
Noticing Veronica's astonished expression, Emilia grinned proudly. "Pretty amazing, right? Illusia has the largest archive of the Ancient Earth data in the world. Most of it's been lost, but based on the surviving visuals, they managed to recreate this whole building."
Her eyes held a faint sense of nostalgia. "Even the menu here was recreated from actual menus on the Ancient Earth. Of course, leafy greens can't grow here anymore because of the radiation, but with a few ingredient swaps, the flavor's still something special."
