They followed Emilia's lead into the tavern that looked plain and ordinary from the outside.
But the moment the heavy wooden door closed behind them, it felt like a gateway through time had quietly opened, guiding them into an entirely different world.
Inside, the tavern unfolded like a dream. The grand hall shimmered beneath a warm, golden glow, every surface alive with detail. It looked like a painting in motion, too vivid to fully take in.
Every corner had been crafted with exquisite care, showcasing not just artistry but the brilliant minds behind it.
The vaulted arches and ornate cornices gave the place a kind of majesty that rivaled even the finest ancient architecture Veronica had ever seen in the modern world.
Veronica's eyes widened in astonishment. She never would've believed that such grandeur could be rebuilt here, on alien soil, using nothing but ancient blueprints and fragmentary records.
She couldn't help but think, 'The beastmen's craftsmanship and ingenuity really are on another level.'
In this unfamiliar place, seeing elements of a style so familiar stirred something deep inside Veronica.
The carvings, the painted beams, the intricate tiered moldings—each piece made her feel as though she were standing in the past, witnessing the rebirth of a long-lost masterpiece alongside the builders who brought it to life.
She drew in a deep breath, as if she could smell the difference in the air—an unfamiliar scent that carried the distinct imprint of this land, of this planet.
Emilia led the group to a random table inside the restaurant and took a seat.
Veronica looked around. Though the decor clearly mimicked the style of the Ancient Earth, traces of modern technology were everywhere.
Emilia tapped the holo-screen embedded in the tabletop with practiced ease. A beam of light flickered, and the full menu appeared before them in crisp clarity.
Emilia explained, "This place might look like it came straight out of the Ancient Earth, but the ordering system is fully up to date. Just tap on the holo-screen and pick whatever you want."
As she spoke, she pointed to the neatly arranged options on the holo-screen.
Then she dove into the menu with enthusiasm, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Look, they've even got pictures," she said, pointing at the images of the exquisite dishes on the holo-screen, showing them off to everyone at the table.
"Whoa, that looks so good," Gabriel said with genuine amazement.
Veronica was drawn in too, her attention caught by the tempting dishes as she started scrolling through, carefully picking out what she wanted.
Only Joshua remained quiet, his gaze fixed on Veronica like he couldn't tear his eyes away.
Emilia quickly finished her selection. After double-checking the order summary on the holo-screen, she nodded in satisfaction. Then she urged, "Come on, you guys pick something too. Everything here's really solid."
Gabriel and Veronica both made their selections quickly, leaving only Joshua with an untouched screen.
Veronica glanced at him curiously. "Joshua, aren't you ordering anything?"
Joshua hadn't said a word since they walked in. In truth, he wasn't a fan of noisy places, but having Veronica there made even a rowdy setting feel tolerable—almost pleasant.
"I don't care much for food," Joshua replied. "Mistress, can you choose for me?"
Veronica perked up. "Sure, I'd love to."
Emilia rolled her eyes. "Joshua, I really didn't take you for that kind of guy."
Joshua acted like he hadn't heard her at all, still sitting upright, every inch the picture of quiet nobility.
They all dug in the moment the food arrived, eating with obvious delight. Even Joshua, who usually couldn't care less about what was on his plate, ended up eating more than usual.
After the meal, the group strolled down the luminestone-lined paths of the Central District.
The luminestones embedded in the lamps lining the path gave off a soft, hazy glow, adding a dreamlike beauty to the night.
Emilia grabbed Veronica's hand, beaming with excitement like she'd just found a kindred spirit.
