"Veronica, you have no idea how happy I am to meet you," she said, practically bouncing. "We can go on food adventures together, try out all kinds of amazing dishes—just thinking about it gets me all hyped."
Gabriel stood off to the side, listening to their conversation, and suddenly felt a little left out. He chimed in with mock offense, "What about me? Emi, did you forget I exist?"
Emilia ignored him completely and kept chatting away with Veronica. "Seriously, Veronica, the moment I saw you, I felt this instant connection like we were best friends in another life or something. It's kind of crazy. We just somehow clicked at first sight."
Veronica felt genuinely happy too. She smiled, "I'm just as glad to meet you, Emi. Honestly, since I came to the Central District, you're the first real friend I've made. It feels like such a stroke of luck to me."
The two of them were completely hitting it off, chatting about food, travel, music—everything and nothing all at once. With every word, they seemed to grow a little closer.
Gabriel stood quietly off to the side, watching them laugh and lean into each other like best friends. He couldn't help the flicker of disappointment in his chest. 'Emi's totally ignoring me,' he thought.
He suddenly glanced over at Joshua. "Hey, you're not even jealous? Your Mistress has been chatting with Emi all this time and totally forgot about you."
Joshua shot him a deadpan look. "Only someone as childish as you would say that."
Then, without another word, Joshua adjusted his cuff and continued trailing silently behind Veronica.
Gabriel pouted as he watched the females walk ahead. "Emi used to walk this luminestone path holding my hand," he mumbled. "Maybe she doesn't love me anymore."
Joshua spoke, "Honestly, I'm glad Veronica's made a friend. Even though I'm with her, friends are still different."
Gabriel was rendered speechless. Then he protested, "Joshua, you're making me sound petty. Of course I know friends are different. I am happy for Mistress. But, Joshua, don't you know the squeaky wheel gets the grease?"
Joshua froze for a second, still processing what Gabriel meant. Then he saw him rush over to Emilia and tug her arm. "Emi, you ignored me all day. I want a hundred kisses when we get back."
Emilia shot him a look of mock disdain, but still nodded. "Fine. Kisses it is. You're so needy."
Joshua thought, 'So that's what he meant.' He glanced at Veronica, as if something had just clicked in his mind.
They finished their stroll down the luminestone path and began saying their goodbyes.
Just before parting, Emilia suddenly asked, "Veronica, do you think your psychic power affects females too?"
The question came out of nowhere, catching Veronica off guard. She blinked and looked at Emilia, curious. "Emi, what do you mean by that? Are you saying my psychic power works on females too?"
Emilia smiled and explained, "I was holding your hand all day, and it felt like my psychic power was somehow more energized. I was wondering if maybe your psychic power transferred a bit of strength to me."
Veronica's face lit up with surprise. She had never considered that her psychic power might benefit other females too.
She said excitedly, "Really? If it actually helped you, that's amazing. Come by again tomorrow—we can try it out and see if there's a pattern."
Hearing that, Emilia felt a warm surge of gratitude and happiness. She truly felt lucky to have met such a kind, helpful friend.
She chuckled at Veronica, "Veronica, you're the sweetest. Thank you for being willing to help me. I really mean it."
Emilia thought to herself, 'I mean, who wouldn't want their psychic power to be stronger?'
Veronica shook her head with a soft grin. "Don't mention it. We're friends. If my psychic power can actually help you, I'll do whatever I can."
The two of them shared a look and smiled, warmth and anticipation quietly blooming in their hearts.
