Joshua didn't say much, but deep down he blamed them both. 'Those two useless bastards,' he thought. 'I knew it. They've got filthy blood running through their veins. If those losers hadn't gotten caught by the Fraser family, Veronica would've never been forced to compromise.'
Outside the hospital room, Chase and Leonardo had learned what had happened.
When they found out Veronica had been coerced by the Fraser family and drained her psychic power just to save them, they were overwhelmed with guilt and gratitude. They didn't even know where to begin to express how they felt.
Chase looked at Leonardo, his eyes firm. "Mistress went through all that because of us. We can't piss her off again. We've gotta step up. No more fighting. We can't let her down."
Leonardo nodded in agreement. "Yeah. And right now, our biggest enemy is Joshua. That guy's slick. He actually bonded with Mistress. Our top priority right now is to stick together and take him down."
Chase added, "And don't forget Matthew. That guy's still hovering around her too. We can't let our guard down. We have to stay sharp and make sure he doesn't get a chance to slip through the cracks."
In the days that followed, Matthew and Joshua went off to deal with the Fraser family. There was no way they were gonna let what had happened slide.
Joshua knew one thing for sure: Matthew couldn't afford to lose his title as the president of Snakehaven. At least for now, Matthew was on his side.
If someone else took over, there was no telling what kind of person they'd be, or how the Fraser family might exploit that for their own gain.
This had Chase and Leonardo grinning from ear to ear. Every day, they came up with new ways to get Veronica's attention, doing anything to make her feel their presence, their loyalty, their care.
Chase had always been the lively, easygoing type. Every day, he'd run around outside looking for fun little things—snacks, trinkets, anything quirky or odd—just to bring them back and make Veronica smile.
Leonardo, on the other hand, was gentle and meticulous. He handled all of Veronica's daily needs. Whether it was cooking her meals or straightening up her bed, he took care of everything with quiet devotion.
One took care of Veronica while the other kept her entertained, filling her heart with warmth and making her feel completely at ease.
Watching them fuss over her, Veronica couldn't help but feel a ripple of warmth and gratitude. Chase was no longer that reckless guy who didn't know what he was doing—he'd grown. With them by her side, Veronica felt like even her recovery was speeding up.
One night, Leonardo stayed behind in the hospital room to watch over her. After gently tucking the blanket around her, he sat by her bedside, his eyes fixed on her with tenderness.
Under the moonlight, Leonardo's gaze looked even more intense and burning, like it could melt straight through Veronica's heart.
Veronica felt a little flustered under Leonardo's gaze. She lowered her voice and said softly, "Leonardo, stop looking at me like that," she said softly.
Leonardo didn't look away. Instead, he whispered her name again and again, even softer this time, each syllable soaked in longing. "Mistress."
The moment she heard that word, Veronica felt her heart skip a beat. She knew exactly what it meant coming from him. She knew how deep his feelings ran.
So, she responded, patiently and gently, "Yeah. I'm here." Even though the psychic power exhaustion had taken a toll on her, and even just speaking for a little while made her feel worn out, she still made the effort to answer him.
Then all of a sudden, Leonardo slowly leaned in. His breath brushed against Veronica's face, sending a subtle shiver down her spine.
He pressed a kiss to her eyelid—soft as a feather, yet laced with deep affection and longing.
Veronica froze. She didn't push him away. The kiss caught her off guard, but as she looked at his face so close to hers, at the tenderness in his eyes, she found herself unable to reject him.
Leonardo could feel her silence, her quiet acceptance, and it sparked a flicker of hope in him. He kept kissing her—her eyes, the bridge of her nose—and finally, his lips found hers. "Mistress, I want to bond with you."
