Before Veronica even stepped through the doors of the Holland residence, she could already feel the sincerity in the air.
Unlike the Fraser family's rather distant reception, the Holland family clearly saw this meeting as something to look forward to and took it seriously. Even before Veronica and Joshua arrived, they had already sent people to the entrance to greet them with thoughtful hospitality.
As the two of them approached the front gates of the Holland residence, a staff member immediately stepped forward, his face lit up with a warm smile.
The attendant bowed respectfully and said, "Ms. Byrne, Mr. Holland, welcome to the Holland residence. The matriarch has been expecting you. Please follow me."
Veronica's nerves eased a little. The Holland family really was nothing like the Frasers.
Joshua noticed how tense she was. He gently rubbed her hand and gave it two reassuring squeezes.
They followed the attendant through a bright, spacious courtyard and entered a tastefully decorated living room filled with refined ornaments and artworks, striking a balance between elegance and style.
The Holland family's matriarch, Juliette Holland, had already been waiting in the room. When she saw them arrive, she immediately stood up to greet them.
She was a female in her middle years. Time had left faint traces on her face, but they didn't take away from her grace and poise. She smiled and nodded at Veronica and Joshua, then warmly asked them to take a seat.
During the conversation that followed, Juliette showed great interest in and admiration for Veronica. She asked about how Veronica had been doing lately and what her plans were for the future, and said she was willing to offer support and help for her future development.
Veronica could feel the Holland family's sincerity and goodwill, and it made her think that working with them might actually be a good idea.
Following the flow of the conversation, Veronica smoothly shifted to the main point. "Ms. Holland, I'm sure Joshua already mentioned what's been troubling me lately.
"My friend's being wrongly accused of colluding with the enemy just because certain people in the Central District are acting out of pure self-interest and ignoring the facts."
Juliette nodded. "Joshua has already filled me in on everything. Of course, we're more than willing to help Ms. Byrne with a small matter like this. It's just..."
Juliette didn't finish the sentence, but Veronica understood what she meant—nothing came without conditions.
"I understand, Ms. Holland. And I'm not someone who forgets a favor. I'll owe the Holland family for this one. If you ever need help down the line, I won't say no," Veronica said.
Juliette smiled with clear satisfaction, "Ms. Byrne, I knew you were extraordinary."
After that pleasant and in-depth conversation, Juliette immediately got in touch with the Interstellar Political Center.
Since she had never asked anything of the Interstellar Political Center before, they knew they couldn't really afford to turn her down. She didn't hesitate for a second and promptly made her request.
She spoke with sincerity and conviction, defending Leonardo's innocence with powerful, persuasive words. She made it clear that Leonardo, as a member of the Holland family, had always been loyal, hardworking, and had never done anything improper.
Even if he didn't deserve major recognition, the least they could do was clear his name so he could live with dignity and keep contributing to the family and to Snakehaven.
The Interstellar Political Center hadn't expected that a semi-beastman who seemed to have no background would actually be part of the Holland family.
In truth, the matter wasn't all that serious—it had only been meant as a warning to Snakehaven. But letting Leonardo go just like that would be a blow to the Center's authority.
To strengthen her case, Juliette made sure that someone from their family who held a position in the Interstellar Political Center raised the issue directly during a meeting, asking face-to-face what exactly Leonardo had done wrong.
