That tenderness was something even Matthew himself probably hadn't expected. Back when they first met, he had spoken to her harshly. But now, he would give her everything nice in the world if it meant seeing her smile.
After hearing what Matthew said, Veronica suddenly understood. She looked up slightly and asked, "You mean having the Fraser family help me get in touch with Illusia?"
There was a hint of confusion in her voice, like the suggestion had caught her off guard.
Matthew gave a slight nod and explained, "The Fraser family offended you before, and now, of course, they're trying to smooth things over. After all, your psychic power is something that only appears once in a hundred years.
"That kind of talent really shocked them. Helping with something this small is exactly the kind of thing they'd be eager to do. It just depends on whether you're willing to accept their goodwill."
Veronica thought it over. Having one more ally was better than making another enemy. She didn't want things with the Fraser family to go completely south either.
Seeing her silent, Matthew already knew she'd made up her mind.
He opened the holo-interface on his wrist and sent a message to Julia, explaining the problem Veronica was facing and making it clear that if they helped her solve it, she might be willing to let the past go.
"Alright, then help me get in touch with the Fraser family," Veronica said suddenly.
Matthew shook his wrist and replied casually, "Already did."
Veronica shot him a glare. "How did you know I'd say yes?"
Matthew shrugged innocently with a grin. "I just knew. And here you are, agreeing."
Veronica huffed, turning away, "You arrogant jerk. Next time, don't decide for me if I haven't said anything." She remembered how he took it upon himself to plan her last vacation too.
Watching her get all worked up again, Matthew couldn't help laughing, "Okay, okay. Next time I'll make sure to ask before I act."
While the two were talking, Joshua suddenly appeared at the doorway. He looked a little tired, but his eyes were still sharp. As soon as he walked in, his gaze landed on Veronica. "What's going on? Did something happen?"
Veronica shook her head. "It's nothing. I was going to ask you to talk to the Holland family for me about reaching out to Illusia about those seeds. But Matthew said the Fraser family can help, so I didn't want to trouble you."
Joshua nodded. "That works too. The Fraser family still owes you for threatening you last time and making you sick. This can be their chance to make it up to you."
He walked over to Veronica and gently patted the back of her hand, as if to comfort and support her. His gesture was smooth and natural, like a perfect boyfriend doing what he should.
Matthew, standing off to the side, took it all in and felt a bit annoyed. He couldn't help but scoff inwardly, 'Give me a break. What a damn actor.'
After speaking to Veronica, Joshua turned to Matthew. "Mr. Fraser, is there anything else you need? If not, Mistress should get some rest."
At that, a faint, almost imperceptible sneer appeared on Matthew's face. The corner of his lips lifted slightly as he let out a quiet, mocking laugh.
Veronica chimed in, "Yeah, I'm gonna have some rest now. Mr. Fraser, make yourself at home." With that, she headed upstairs on her own, not bothering to stay and watch the two males size each other up.
Joshua gave a polite smile. "Please, suit yourself," he said casually, the words sounding more like a subtle dismissal.
Matthew was almost amused by how much Joshua annoyed him. He thought, 'So what if Joshua bonded with Veronica? That doesn't mean I can't beat him.'
With the Fraser family's recommendation, Veronica finally got the chance to visit Illusia and examine the Ancient Earth seeds they had mentioned.
The Illusians who came to greet her couldn't hide the disappointment in their eyes when they saw her for the first time.
They looked over the young female, wondering, 'She's so young. How much experience or knowledge could she really have? She probably can't even tell one crop from another, let alone grow seeds from Ancient Earth.'
