Just a few days after Veronica's return to the Holland family estate, she received a summons from the Interstellar Political Center.
They had learned about Veronica's success in cultivating the Illusian seeds and wanted to invite her to the Interstellar Political Center to help tackle the food crisis.
Veronica was more than willing to do her part to address the food shortage. But she also understood that the Interstellar Political Center's true intentions were far more complicated than they seemed.
In this interstellar world full of intrigue and intertwined interests, the Interstellar Political Center often used such invitations as a pretext to get talented and capable individuals on its side to enhance its power and influence.
Although Matthew and Joshua were unhappy, they knew that they could not stop Veronica from going to the Interstellar Political Center.
The only thing they could do was improve their own strength, so they could help her in any situation.
Matthew and Joshua sat side by side, their faces grave as they discussed the current situation.
They knew all too well that the problems they faced wouldn't be solved overnight, but would require a long and complex process.
Matthew said seriously, "We need to face the fact that this kind of thing is only going to happen more often, not less."
Joshua nodded in agreement, a hint of worry in his eyes. "You're right. We can't just sit around and wait for things to happen anymore. We have to act now, or we'll be left with fewer and fewer options."
Matthew pondered for a moment and then said, "Maybe I can use my family's status to reach out to other states. My family has extensive connections and holds considerable influence across the continent. In this way, we can learn more about the outside world and even explore potential opportunities for cooperation."
Joshua was silent for a moment before replying, "That is a good idea." Then, as if inspired by Matthew, he added, "We can start by reaching out to a few states and gradually expand our cooperation. That'll help us build strength and influence. Eventually, we'll secure a spot in the Interstellar Political Center."
When Matthew returned to the presidential residence, he contacted Elias Thorne, the president of Quilloria.
Quilloria was in the middle of a severe drought, causing the local food supply to be extremely tight. The situation there was dire.
From what Matthew had heard, Quilloria had been paying close attention to Illusian seeds ever since news broke that it had been successfully cultivated. They had already reached out to Illusia for some seeds, hoping to alleviate the food shortage caused by the drought.
But Illusia had remained firm in their stance, refusing to share.
Matthew tapped his fingers lightly on the desk, his gaze confident and determined.
Then he said slowly, "Everyone, I can assure you—I do have a way to get you those seeds."
On the other side of the holo-interface, Elias looked a bit surprised. He frowned and said, "Mr. Fraser, that's hard to believe. We've already tried everything. We even offered a sky-high price. But Illusia hasn't budged. They are firmly opposed to giving us any seeds."
Matthew gave a small, meaningful smile and said calmly, "Just because you couldn't obtain the seeds doesn't mean I can't. I think you may have overlooked a key factor—where Ms. Byrne is right now."
Elias was stunned for a moment, and then he had a sudden realization. A flicker of anticipation flickered in his eyes as he eagerly asked, "Mr. Fraser, are you saying that you could get the seeds through Ms. Byrne?"
Matthew nodded, a confident smile gracing his lips. "That's right. I'm confident that with Ms. Byrne's help, I can secure those precious seeds for you."
Elias's gaze darkened. Raising an eyebrow, he asked, "So, Mr. Fraser, what are your terms? After all, nothing in this world comes without a price—don't you agree?"
He was well aware that every offer came with an underlying motive or hidden demand. Nothing ever came for free; those lavish-looking feasts always came with an unseen cost.
Through the virtual screen, Elias stared at Matthew, waiting for his response.
Matthew's lips curled into a slight smile, his eyes filled with determination and confidence. "I only ask for one thing," he said coolly. "Help me secure a spot in the Interstellar Political Center."
His words were simple, but his request reflected an unwavering resolve.
Elias frowned and asked hesitantly, "Mr. Fraser, are you planning to get involved in the political power struggle?" His voice was full of doubt and worry.
He knew all too well how uncertain and dangerous the road ahead was. Even as the president of a state, he felt overmatched and powerless when dealing with the female-led Interstellar Political Center. Working there might mean losing everything they had built.
Matthew gave a slight nod, acknowledging Elias's guess. He said nothing more, waiting for Elias's answer.
Elias fixed his gaze on Matthew with mixed feelings. He knew Matthew had thought it through—this wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision.
He sighed and said, "Okay, I'll help you. If you can get me those seeds from Illusia, Quilloria will back you with everything we've got."
A satisfied smile spread across Matthew's face. He thanked Elias and promised he wouldn't let him down.
Soon after, Matthew reached out to the leaders of Velthara and Thalorax and secured their support using the same approach.
He knew that gaining a foothold in the Interstellar Political Center was not something he could accomplish alone. He needed allies and backing.
Having secured the support of those allies, Matthew sat at his desk, thinking, 'The road ahead won't be easy—but I'm ready for it. It's time for my family to secure a spot in the Interstellar Political Center.'
At the Holland family estate, Joshua knocked on Veronica's door again. The door opened slowly, revealing her pretty and calm face.
Joshua's gaze was gentle yet determined, as if he would stand by Veronica through whatever hardships lay ahead. "Mistress, what are your thoughts?" he asked softly, his voice tinged with concern.
He knew Veronica had been under a lot of pressure and facing many challenges lately, but he believed she had the wisdom and courage to handle it all.
Veronica smiled softly, as if she had already seen through everything. She patted Joshua's shoulder lightly and said, "Whatever happens, we'll deal with it. We've been ready for this since the day you announced the level of my psychic power, haven't we?"
Her calm reassurance eased some of Joshua's worry. He nodded and replied, "Yes, Mistress. And I will always be by your side. No matter what happens, we will handle it together."
Joshua slowly leaned in. His forehead rested against Veronica's and even their breaths mingled, as if they were becoming one.
He whispered, "I will report to the Interstellar Political Center that I'm bonded to you, but since my health isn't great, I'll have to go there with you. I don't think they'll make a fuss over something like this."
Veronica nodded with determined eyes. "With you by my side, what do I have to fear? And I agree—I don't think the Center will interfere too much with this."
