Freda POV
In Mila’s house.
“Hell yeah!” Mila chugged a whole can of beer and smashed the can with her foot. She tossed it into a trash bin not far away and said, “Score. You were on stage and you didn’t notice how pathetic that little bitch was like. Her face was pale as paper and she acted like the wind could blow her away.”
Mila looked so much happier than me as if making a fool of Natasha was such a pleasant thing to do.
I might need to go back to the estate later to give Allen a massage treatment so I didn’t drink too much like Mila. I just sipped some wine and said, “Why do you look even happier than me?”
“We gotta celebrate this, don’t we?” Mila got a little drunk and was being more excited, “I had it all filmed. If you wanna watch it later, I’ll send you the video. Natasha’s press conference really had an impact on the Blood Moon Pack. Now they all know that their alpha’s son cheated on his fiancé with her sister.”
“And people love scandals like this,” Mila said, raising her eyebrows.
Carl and Alpha Hunter must be frustrated about this. The marriage between the Blood Moon Pack and the Fullmoon Pack was supposed to be a very delightful event for both parties but now that Natasha got involved, this became a complete scandal. This must have given them a big headache.
“Freda, you’re not mad at all,” Mila stared at me, holding that can of beer, “I haven’t seen you get angry or upset about this ever since you busted that cheater with that bitch. If I were you, I would’ve thrown a lamp at their heads.”
“I am angry,” I said honestly, “when Levi wanted to give the Moonlight Jewelry to Natasha, I was so pissed that I wanted to punch right through his heart so I could see if he has one or not. As for the marriage, I don’t even like Carl. I just felt disgusted.”
And disappointed.
I was disappointed about alpha Levi.
I had to admit that I still had a little faith in Levi and even asked him to come home to deal with this love affair between Natasha and Carl. I just wanted to see how he would handle this but he really disappointed me and hurt my feelings. I was upset only because Levi always play favorites and listened to whatever Natasha and her mother said.
“You’ve put up with those morons for long enough,” Mila clinked my glass with hers and said, “you finally learned how to fight back instead of letting Natasha and her mother do whatever they want. I’m glad that you finally changed, Freda.”
I smiled and didn’t tell her that Allen might be the reason why I became like this. He was the one who told me I couldn’t let those two greedy women take things from me over and over again. And his encouraging words which sounded like sarcasm finally got me to fight back.
However, Mila saw the look on my face and noticed something. She raised her eyebrows and said, “And what changed you? That alpha?”
“Do you still feel the same way about him after that false heat? Like, your heart starts racing every time you see him.”
“That’s just arrhythmia,” I interrupted her with a straight face.
“You’re so not romantic,” Mila pursed her lips and said.
“And we haven’t met ever since that day,” I didn’t care about her comment at all, “Allen’s busy working and won’t come back to the estate these two days.”
Mila was shocked, “He just left like that? Is he really at work or just running away from this?”
“Or maybe he is just too shy,” my wolf Cam said in my head.
I tried to stop Cam from having a good chat with Mila and subconsciously explained this for Allen, “He is really busy. There are some affairs that need to be handled in the pack.”
“Fine,” Mila shrugged and suddenly stopped laughing, saying seriously, “Freda, if he is your mate, I don’t want you to let him go. As I said, don’t fear this kind of relationship because of your mother’s tragedy. You deserve all the love in the world. No one is supposed to be all alone. Even a lone wolf will finally meet his mate. To be honest, isn’t Allen a perfect choice for you? He looks really sexy.”
Wolves were social animals and they were not born to be alone.
I remembered what Allen said to me and this time I couldn’t say no to Mila’s suggestion anymore. But I knew my heart still hadn’t broken from the chains. I didn’t know how to respond and had to keep on drinking.
We clinked glasses and Mila stopped trying to talk some senses into me. She just kept drinking silently.
All of a sudden, my phone rang and broke the ice.
When I saw who was calling, my heart sank.
“Damn it,” Mila came forward to see who that was and couldn’t help but curse.
And of course I knew she wasn’t talking about the person who called.
I temporarily blocked my mind link but forgot to mute my phone. The person who called was the alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, Alpha Hunter.
“Alpha Hunter,” I picked up the phone and said. I couldn’t keep running like this anymore and I didn’t want to.
“Freda, I haven’t seen you for such a long time.”
“Yeah, long time no see.” I was still very polite to alpha Hunter. He and my mother used to be friends and he always looked after me in the past, which was why I couldn’t be mad at him no matter how much I hated Carl.
Alpha Hunter was silent for a while and then he said with difficulty, “Freda, sweetie, I’m gonna cut to the chase. Can we meet tomorrow night? Your engagement with Carl needs closure.”
I hesitated for some time and finally said, “Okay. Where?”
“We’ll meet in your pack,” alpha Hunter seemed to be relieved and said, “I’ll come with Carl and his mother. I’m sorry about this, Freda.”
I hummed coldly and didn’t say anything else. I just hung up the phone quickly.
But Mila, who heard the whole thing sitting right next to me, handed me another can of beer and said, “You really wanna meet them?”
“I can’t say no to Alpha Hunter,” I answered, “he’s always good to me and sometimes he treats me better than my so-called father Levi. And I have a hunch that this might be the last time he and I would meet. After that, we’ll be practically strangers.”
“Freda…” Mila wanted to say something to comfort me but didn’t know what to say.
I would never marry Carl but Carl was his only son. He wouldn’t disown him because of me and no matter how close we were before, things wouldn’t be the same after the engagement was canceled.
“It’s okay. I want to see how they’re gonna handle this. I’ll tell you how miserable Natasha is when I get back,” I chuckled at Mila.
The next day, I went to the dining room as promised.
“Freda.”
No sooner had I arrived at the door than I heard a familiar voice.
I froze.
In Mila’s house.
