Freda POV
I didn’t answer the question about whether Natasha got between Carl and me or not directly and just calmly said, “Anyway, from now on, Carl has nothing to do with me.”
“Since you just broke off this engagement today, does that mean Natasha is the home wrecker who ruined your engagement?” the reporter noticed something and said shrewdly.
However, at this moment, one of the reporters raised a pile of photos in his hand and said in a snarky way, “Miss Greenwald, I don’t think you’re telling the truth. Rumor has it that you live quite a sleazy life and sleep around, which ruined your engagement with the Blood Moon Pack.”
He was holding some photos of me having fun in a bar and from some angles, I looked like I was flirting with a lot of men.
Under the stage, Levi looked away and glimpsed at Olivia and Natasha.
I didn’t expect that they would take pictures of me at that time and Levi had already given up on me a long time ago because of his interests and Natasha.
As I froze for a second, the reporter thought he found my weak spot and threw more tough questions at me, “Miss Greenwald, the reason why Natasha took your place to be with Mr. Carl is that you’ve been sleeping around and wanted to abandon the Greenwald family due to your mother’s death. Miss Natasha just wanted to protect her pack by fulfilling the marriage contract with the Blood Moon Pack.”
“And you’ve become jealous of her and started to hate her after you saw what a lovely couple they are, right? You’re taking it out on her for what happened to your mother.”
His question instantly started an uproar.
This press conference was held by alpha Levi and it was easy for Olivia to put her own people into the staff. That reporter was one of her pawns.
Seeing how I was getting cornered by their questions, Levi just pursed his lips and didn’t defend me in front of them at all. He didn’t look stunned or surprised as if he had known about it a long time ago and he knew Natasha and Olivia had set this up.
My compromises only made them cockier.
What would happen if I just did whatever they said, called off the engagement, and gave Natasha and Carl my blessing? Would they be grateful?
No.
They would be thrilled that this marriage contract between the two tribes could still be fulfilled without me and they could still enjoy the benefits that came from the marriage. My sacrifice would mean nothing to them.
I took a deep breath and started scrolling my phone, saying slowly and solemnly, “No.”
“Up till now, I’m still Carl’s fiancé.” Even though I didn’t give a crap about that title, I needed to let them hear it right now.
Levi became grim and said immediately, “Freda! You’re here to explain all of this in front of everyone! If you hadn’t insisted on breaking off the engagement, Natasha would never replace you to be with Carl!”
“Then where’s the annulment contract?” I questioned him coldly.
Levi stammered, “Well…It’s…”
If it weren’t for that engagement contract, they wouldn’t have asked me to call off the engagement.”
“Let me do the talking,” Natasha wiped off her tears and slowly walked onto the stage with tears in her eyes, “Freda, back then, you hated my mother and father so much that you insisted on breaking off the engagement regardless of the Blood Moon Pack and the Fullmoon Pack…”
“But now…” Natasha sobbed as if she was too devastated to talk anymore and continued after pausing for a while, “now you have to ruin my relationship with Carl since you’ve seen how happy Carl and I are? Do you really hate my mother and me so much that you want to ruin my life?”
Every question she raised came with a lot of tears.
She was crying in a very subtle way and she looked pretty when she wept like that. Teardrops kept falling across her cheeks and made everyone feel sorry for her.
She really was good at acting.
Compared with me being completely indifferent, Natasha was crying so hard as if I was the bad guy who wanted to destroy their precious love in a fairy tale.
And the reporters began raising more relentless questions because of what she just said.
“Miss Freda, have you been taking it out on Natasha because you hate Mrs. Olivia’s guts?”
“Are you trying to get back at Natasha because you’re jealous of Natasha and don’t want to see Natasha and Carl be happy after you broke off the engagement?”
“Miss Freda, is all of this your revenge?”
I directly turned to Levi as they kept throwing me those questions. There was guilt and regret in his eyes but he just kept his mouth shut. He didn’t want to defend me in front of them at all. My own family had turned against me.
“Father, you really wanna do this to me for Natasha?”
“Freda…” Levi opened his mouth and finally looked down like there was nothing he could do about it, “I shouldn’t have spoiled you so much when you were little…You’ve become too overbearing and unreasonable…”
I closed my eyes, forced a smile, and clicked on my phone, “Got it.”
“Natasha is your favorite daughter and she matters the most to you.”
“And you’re willing to help her at my expense.”
“Freda, I’m doing this out of love…”
Before he could even finish his sentence, the screen behind me lit up and I heard a familiar voice.
“We’ll make an announcement that the one who was supposed to marry Carl is you, Freda. But you don’t have any affection for him so Natasha fulfilled this marriage contract for you so she wasn’t the third wheel.”
“And I’ll give you the Moonlight Jewelry as compensation, Freda.”
“Freda, please forgive them and leave them alone. Natasha and Carl really love each other but they fell for each other at the wrong time.”
“No matter what happens, I’ll announce that Natasha is Carl’s fiancé and she’s never the third wheel, Freda. I’ll make it up to you by offering you compensation if you come.”
Everyone in the room stopped talking in an instant. Anyone could tell that it was Levi’s and Olivia’s voices and the reporters Olivia had bribed all froze and didn’t know what to say.
And I was also completely stunned.
Because that wasn’t the recording I had prepared.
And the next second, a pregnancy test was shown on the screen which made Natasha’s face pale as ashes.
