Freda’s POV
Carl, who had been completely neglected, froze and felt humiliated. He frowned and pursed his lips, trying to hold back his anger. But I knew Carl didn’t dare to throw a tantrum at Allen because he saw himself as the future alpha of the Blood Moon Pack and he had to be careful.
And the person in front of him was the legendarily powerful and ruthless alpha Allen.
As Carl’s date, Natasha was also quite awkward. She stared at me viciously, trying to figure out why Allen would invite me to go to the dance with him.
And everyone else here was also quite curious.
Natasha didn’t give up and asked, “Hello, alpha Allen. Carl is the eldest son of the Blood Moon Pack’s alpha and I’m his fiancée. It’s an honor to meet you.”
Allen had been waiting for my answer and when he heard that, he glanced at Natasha coldly and the smile on Natasha’s face froze.
And then Allen said wryly, “So?”
“What?” Natasha, who was comfortable in all kinds of social situations, didn’t know how to react to this. She wanted to help Carl out but instead, she was making things even more embarrassing for the both of them.
Allen looked up and his golden eyes looked cold and intimidating under the lights, “Do I need to know the firstborn of every alpha?”
Carl’s face instantly went pasty while Natasha bit her lips and explained, “We just…we just hope that we could get to know you a bit since we have some trade between our tribes…”
But Allen stopped paying attention to them and looked at me gently, asking again, “What’s your answer, pretty lady?”
There was a huge contrast between his attitude toward Carl and Natasha and his attitude toward me. He really was…
I coughed a bit to hold back my grin and then gave him a polite smile and said, “Are you sure?”
Only Allen would get what I meant.
This was the treat for being my secret lover…
Was he gonna give up his treat?
Allen paused for a second and nodded, “Yes.”
“My pleasure,” I answered, smiling gently.
I figured his sudden change of mind was due to that conversation Carl and I had in the garden but I didn’t know what made him give up the reward he had always been craving.
As the waiter led us to the venue of the Moondance Ball, everyone kept staring at Allen and me. Some of them were speculating or just surprised but none of them dared to look down upon us. They didn’t have the guts to forget how brutal and strong Allen used to be just because of his temporary injury.
The Moondance Ball was the grandest party among the tribes and the venue was extremely luxurious. Under the bright and shimmering lights, Allen looked even more handsome and intimidating. He was still the center of everyone’s attention.
“I can’t believe alpha Allen is here.”
“Who’s that beautiful woman next to him? Is she his mate? But isn’t his wolf…”
“I think she’s that daughter of the Fullmoon Pack’s alpha. She was so cool at the annulment ceremony.”
Just as Allen said, I wouldn’t be worried that I might live in Allen’s shadow at all and we looked the best when we were standing right next to each other.
But we only entered the venue together and didn’t stick together. Allen gave me a look and went to his seat. Then alphas from other tribes all went up to greet him.
However, I got a message from Allen, “I still want that treat. We’re still secret lovers, aren’t we?”
What a cunning alpha.
I took a glass of champagne and wanted to find a quieter place, but then someone said something in a mature voice behind me.
“Miss Greenwald.”
“Long time no see. How have you been?”
The Third-person POV
On the other side, Carl and Natasha were at an impasse.
Natasha wanted to enter the venue with Freda just so she could make Freda feel what it was like to be humiliated but because of Allen’s interruption, they were the ones who got taunted. And Carl instantly turned a cold shoulder to her.
Carl had doubts about Natasha’s fall in the lounge because of what Freda said in the first place.
“Carl, are you blaming me?” Natasha carefully asked, “I was just trying to help you out. Who would know alpha Allen would be so insensitive…I’m sorry, Carl.”
Carl couldn’t just blame it on Natasha like that but he was still wearing a long face. He drank up his glass of champagne and cooled himself down, “It’s not your fault.”
“Why would alpha Allen invite Freda? Did they know each other before?” Natasha asked, pretending that she didn’t have a clue. But right now she hated Freda’s guts and her wolf wanted to bite off Freda’s head and soak her white dress with her blood right now.
“I don’t think so,” Carl’s eyes darkened as he thought of this. As a man, he could tell from the way Allen looked at Freda that Allen admired her and somehow hated him. He proceeded, “It’s just a coincidence. He saw that Freda was left alone so he invited her to go in with her. See, they’ve gone their separate ways now.”
Noticing the relief in his tone, Natasha’s heart was filled with resentment and she said, “Good. I was just worried that Freda would feel left out if she went in alone. Carl, are you still…thinking about Freda?”
After all, Freda looked incredibly gorgeous tonight.
Carl must admit that he was stunned at how beautiful Freda looked tonight. She was wearing that white evening dress and didn’t look so distant and cold anymore. Instead, she looked sweet and breathtaking. But her sarcasm in the garden made him realize she was still the same cold-blooded woman.
So what if she’s beautiful? All she’ll do is hurt other men’s feelings. Carl thought to himself.
He couldn’t help but compare Natasha with Freda. Natasha was now holding his arm sweetly and obediently. Natasha was innocent and tender and only a woman like her got to be his mate. She was strong yet vulnerable. Thinking of this, Carl’s gaze softened and he wasn’t so discontent with her anymore.
“No, you’re my fiancée now. Natasha, you don’t need to get insecure,” Carl patted Natasha’s head intimately as Natasha smiled at him fondly. She wouldn’t be cold to him or reject him, unlike Freda.
“Carl, my dear,” Natasha chuckled, “I love you and I’m willing to do anything for you.”
See, only a well-mannered woman like this can be my mate. Thought Carl. His possessiveness and aggressive nature had been satisfied.
“A gemstone tiara will be auctioned in the charity auction tonight,” Carl said, “and I’m gonna buy it and give it to you as a wedding gift.”
Natasha was the one who asked other people to put this idea into his head but she acted to be surprised and started weeping out of joy. She looked at Carl fondly with her eye full of admiration and gasped, “Oh, Carl, I didn’t expect you to do this. What a nice surprise! I’m so happy right now. I would’ve hugged you and given you a big kiss now if we weren’t at a banquet.”
Natasha had always been showering him with her compliments.
And that satisfied his vanity and he said, “You can give it to me after.”
“Alright,” Natasha giggled and asked tentatively, “then, Carl, could you propose to me after you buy that tiara? You know, the proposal at the banquet in the Fullmoon Pack got interrupted by Lau…I still want a proposal. And it’s not just for me, it’s for our tribes. I want people to know how deep our love is so we can gradually impress everyone.”
“Also, father will discuss the inheritance with Freda at the ball. Isn’t this a perfect opportunity?”
Carl thought about it for a second and agreed, “I’m sorry about last time. I’ll propose to you by giving you a diamond necklace.”
Natasha felt like she was walking on air right now and she couldn’t wait to track Natasha down and tell her how much her fiancé loved her.
But when she saw the person walking toward Freda, she stopped smiling.
