Freda’s POV
“It’s a good thing that we went to the apartment first,” Cam said, “that’s what this old hag is up to. And she kept talking about family. Forget it, the only thing that is running through their veins is money and power. Oh, and they’re really good at acting. I’ve been wondering where Natasha learned that from. Turns out Susan is just as a great actress as Olivia.”
Maybe it was because she could tell I was upset, Cam kept on roasting them.
“The blood of the Greenwald family is also running in my veins,” I shrugged and said.
Cam said instantly, “That’s not the same thing. You inherited your grandfather’s bloodline. Although I’ve never met him, I can feel that he must be an interesting old gentleman.”
“Interesting…” To be honest, I didn’t get to spend much time with my grandfather either. I didn’t know if he was interesting but I knew that he was an upstanding and brave man, unlike Levi who only cared about his interests. Back then, he was the only one in the Greenwald family that supported my mother to break up with Levi and was even willing to give part of his properties to my mother. He refused to take Olivia and Natasha in and never saw Natasha as his granddaughter.
It was such a pity that…
But before my grandfather passed away, he made me the sole heir to the Fullmoon Pack and I had the right to inherit everything in the Fullmoon Pack and the Greenwald family. Therefore, even though Olivia successfully moved into the Greenwald estate with Natasha later, they still did not have the right of inheritance and couldn’t really get the properties of the Greenwald family. All they had was the private property of Levi.
Although this was already a lot, that would never be enough for them.
“It’s alright. We’ve already known what Susan’s up to and we’ll surprise her later,” Cam sounded excited, “if they still wanna do that.”
I knew Natasha and Olivia too well. When a big fortune had come to their door, they would definitely take it without any hesitation. So I guessed they would still hold the shareholders’ meeting.
“Never mind, forget it. Why don’t we think about where Allen’s gonna take us?” I put away my phone. Allen was already waiting for me in the parking lot and every time I thought of him, I stopped feeling gloomy and my mood brightened up a lot. I wasn’t depressed anymore and was excited about what was going to happen.
Since when had I gotten used to Allen being by my side?
Cam was also looking forward to it, “Is he gonna take us to the forest? Or his secret base? I don’t think he’s going to take us somewhere boring like a restaurant.”
As we were talking, I walked into the parking lot.
The car that I was already familiar with pulled over beside me and the window was rolled down. I saw Allen’s handsome face and the look on his face softened when he saw me. He said to me with a warm smile, “Freda, get in.”
I tried to look normal and smiled at him, “You’re still not going to tell me where we’re going?”
Allen glanced at me and wanted to say something. But then he paused and took my hands, squeezing my palms gently, “Since it’s a secret, I’ll tell you when we get there.”
The warmth passed from his palms to my hands and flowed through my body. Allen didn’t ask me anything but he was comforting me in his own way. He gave me enough space but he still gave me comfort. I stared him in the eyes and felt the nice scent of him. I couldn’t help but get closer.
I seemed to love Allen even more.
The car drove us away from the crowd and into the territory of the Midnight Claws Pack. But it didn’t head to the central area or the estate we lived in. It was going toward a remote place. As we went through a forest, the scenery outside the window was getting more and more desolate. I was even more curious about where Allen was taking me. Was Cam right? Was he really taking me to his secret base?
Finally, the car stopped in front of a building that looked like a castle.
But the castle seemed a bit ancient and was mysterious like it came straight out of a fairy tale. This retro architecture had got tree branches and vines climbing up its walls but it didn’t look eerie at all. On the contrary, the green leaves were glistening in the sunlight and I could see flowers blooming at the gaps, looking vital and vivid.
After the driver stopped the car, I helped Allen out of the car and came to the gate of the castle. The driver drove the car away. Before I could knock on the door, I vaguely heard the sound of children talking and laughing behind the door and it sounded like there were many of them.
“What’s going on in there?” I listened closely and the pleasant laughter inside didn’t irritate me at all, “sounds like there are a lot of children.”
I had an assumption in my mind.
Allen picked up the rope that was hidden behind the vines and pulled it and then the bell started ringing cheerfully, “It’s an orphanage.”
Before I could ask anything, a lovely old lady with grey hair came out of the garden. She was wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses and seemed to have poor eyesight. She lifted her glasses a little and walked toward us. She was confused at first but then looked surprised, running toward us to open the door, “Oh my god, alpha Allen, what brings you by? Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”
She sounded like she and Allen were pretty close, which made me kind of puzzled. What did Allen have to do with this orphanage? Was he a sponsor? I seemed to have a glimpse of a secret side of him.
“Mrs. Katrina,” Allen nodded his head and greeted her and he sounded oddly tender. It looked like this Mrs. Katrina must be quite special to Allen. I rarely saw him talking to other people like this.
Mrs. Katrina hastily opened the door. She reached out her hand and wanted to touch Allen but her hand froze in the air. She withdrew her hands and said sorrowfully, “I can’t believe you’re really…I haven’t seen you since last time and they told me you were wounded. I was so worried, sweetie. Does it still hurt? Do you feel better now?”
Allen said calmly, “It doesn’t hurt anymore.”
“Allen…” Mrs. Katrina wanted to say something and she looked like she really felt sad for him. She was devastated by his pain and she didn’t ask whether he would recover or not. She sincerely cared about Allen’s well-being. It seemed that she didn’t want to bring up the past anymore and wiped the tears that were about to fall from her eyes, saying, “Come inside. The kids have been asking why you didn’t come visit these days. They all miss you so much.”
After letting us in, she closed the door and turned to look at me. She was eyeing me up and down but she didn’t mean any harm. She gently said, “I’m sorry for my rudeness, young lady. I was busy talking to alpha Allen. I’m the dean here and you may call me Mrs Katrina like the others do.”
She didn’t ask who I was but I could tell from the look on her face that she was curious about me.
“Nice to meet you, Mrs. Katrina. I’m Freda, Allen’s…” I paused for a second and looked down at Allen, and then I said with confidence, “partner. I’m Allen’s partner.”
Allen was a bit stunned and then couldn’t help smiling. The sunlight shone on him and his golden eyes were glistening like diamonds. He put his hand on mine and chuckled, “Yes, she’s my partner.”
It was like he was introducing me to his family.
Mrs. Katrina froze for a moment. At first, she was shocked and then she gasped with joy, “Oh! That’s wonderful! Allen, she’s your partner!”
“I’ve prayed countless times for you to get a partner. This is magnificent! This must be the blessing of the Moon Goddess! She brought such a lovely girl to your life.”
“It’s a good thing that we went to the apartment first,” Cam said, “that’s what this old hag is up to. And she kept talking about family.
