That evening, Sophia wouldn't take no for an answer—she insisted I stay the night. And with Mr. Lowell adding his own persistent encouragement, I finally caved, though not without hesitation.
After my shower, I was back in my room, smoothing on body butter, when it hit me like a bolt of lightning—
I'd left my panties in the bathroom.
Not just any panties. The ones from today.
I rushed back, but the door was shut, the steady rush of water humming from inside.
Sophia was locked in her room, giggling through a call with her boyfriend. Which meant only one person could be in that shower—Mr. Lowell.
My stomach dropped. Maybe he wouldn't notice them. Maybe they'd blend in with the steam and shadows.
But today hadn't been… normal. The evidence of my body's betrayal was right there, impossible to miss. The thought of him seeing it—of him knowing—made my skin crawl with humiliation. Would he think I was some shameless girl?
Then, a sound cut through the water's rhythm.
A low, rough noise.
My breath caught.
Unless my ears were lying, Mr. Lowell wasn't just showering. He was—
Oh God.
Heat exploded across my face, so fierce I thought I might combust. I should've run. Should've bolted back to my room and buried myself under the covers.
But my feet stayed rooted to the floor.
