"Did you throw this?" Sophie looked incredulously at the little boy upstairs.
Back then, Jake cherished it so much; he held it dearly. How could he have possibly thrown away the teddy bear?
"If I threw it, so what? This ugly teddy bear, I don't like it at all!"
Only Jake would play with such a childish thing.
When he threw it into the trash can, Jake rushed downstairs anxiously to grab it. It seems this thing is also important to him. Anything important to Jake, he wants to destroy!
"Pick it up!" Sophie's voice carried a hint of severity.
Stephen was startled by this tone. The woman who had just been so gentle and apologetic, why did she suddenly turn harsh?
Stephen stood still upstairs, unmoving. Sophie repeated once again, "Pick it up!"
This voice is so scary, just like when Uncle scolds people. Especially with the way she's looking at him, Stephen is scared.
He slowly walks down the stairs but doesn't go to pick up the teddy bear.
"I don't like this thing; it's so ugly." Stephen was almost scared to tears by Sophie's demeanor.
Sophie could understand a child's fickleness, but this was a gift from Damon to Jake. Even if one doesn't like it, tossing it aside so casually wasn't appropriate.
If the person who gave the gift knew their heartfelt gesture was being trampled on, it would be so heartbreaking.
"If you don't pick it up, I'll throw you into the trash can!"
"Are you daring to do that?" He smelled so nice; he didn't want to end up in that stinky garbage can.
"Do you think I dare?"
Stephen was quite frightened, so he had no choice but to bend down and pick up the teddy bear from the trash can. However, he wore a disgusted expression, as if the bear was infected with some sort of virus.
This smelly bear—I'll definitely cut it into pieces later and then present it in front of Jake.
If this woman was harsh on him, he was going to retaliate through Jake!
"Isn't Damon a good friend of yours? Even if you don't like it, you shouldn't throw away the teddy bear."
Stephen didn't know who Damon was, but he felt a pang of jealousy seeing that Jake had made a friend.
Previously, all of Jake's friends had been discreetly orchestrated by him and chased away. Now, Jake had managed to make new friends again!
He absolutely wouldn't allow it!
Stephen spoke up, saying, "Who's Damon? I've never considered him a friend. What status do I, Jake Walton, hold? What status does he hold to even be worthy of being my friend?"
In Stephen's tone, there was a strong sense of mockery. Sophie was genuinely surprised to realize that her son liked Jake so much and considered him a good friend. In the mind of ‘Jake,' her own son turned out to be like this.
"If you never considered him a friend, you should have made it clear instead of pretending!"
Sophie took the teddy bear from Stephen's hands.
"Since you don't like it, then give it back to Damon."
It was something she had captured together with her cub, holding significant sentimental value.
However, Sophie had no intention of returning it to Damon. If Damon found out that Jake had discarded his gift, even if he didn't show it, he would definitely feel upset.
She decided to hide it herself and would inform Damon when the opportunity arose.
She wasn't aware of how Hurley and Matilda had taught this child. That wasn't something Sophie could control.
"It seems like you don't want to have dinner with me today either, so I'll leave first," Sophie said as she left, holding the teddy bear.
Sophie had a lingering feeling that something was off, but she couldn't quite pinpoint it.
Sighing, she chose to believe that the child truly didn't like her.
Leaving the villa, her car was parked outside, ready to be driven.
Just as Sophie was about to get into her car, she suddenly heard what seemed like noises from the third floor of the villa, as if something was urgently being knocked or hit.
She glanced over but didn't see anything.
Sophie looked around a little longer but didn't notice anything unusual.
Despite feeling strange, she eventually got into her car and drove away from the villa.
On the third floor, by the attic window, Anabel, whose hands were restrained, could only watch helplessly as the departing car made her cry uncontrollably.
She opened her mouth wide, seemingly attempting to shout something, but not a sound came out.
"Are you still deluding yourself, trying to get her attention? She's already gone, she can't help you at all!" Stephen pinched Anabel's hand.
Anabel cried even harder. She desperately wanted her mommy to come back, to see her, and to save her!
