Hurley was really at a loss. He took out the spare key and forcibly opened the door.
When Anabel saw the person behind Hurley, she pushed him out and closed the door again.
This child was acting unusually. Hurley immediately called and summoned Jack, a psychologist. Maybe he could help.
"Maybe I should just open the door, and you can go in and talk to her?" Hurley looked troubled.
Jack suggested, "Children are not adults. Right now, she's unwilling to open the door; she's protecting herself within what she considers a safe space. You have to make her willingly open up. Some things must be said voluntarily."
Jack understood that Stephen had a tough time over the years, juggling both parental roles and dealing with numerous business matters. Sometimes, he overlooked the children. However, Stephen loved these two kids to the core.
"But since she doesn't believe you as well. Who else can make her willingly open the door?" Jack questioned.
After this remark, a face suddenly flashed in Stephen's mind. He really thought of someone.
"I got it. You go back for now and take Stephen with you."
Jack was puzzled, "What do you know? Why don't you send your own nephew back?"
Despite his words, Jack took Stephen away when he left.
Hurley picked up his phone and dialed a number.
Sophie had also had a restless night, and now, early in the morning, she received a call from Hurley.
Receiving a call from Hurley was quite unusual for her. She answered, "What's up?"
"I'm Hurley."
"I know. Did you call me early in the morning just to introduce yourself?"
Hurley paused, unsure of which particular trait of this woman the two kids found appealing.
"Do you have time now? I'll give you an address. Can you come over? Anabel has locked herself in her room and refuses to see anyone. She really likes you, and I want you to help me comfort her and find out what's going on."
"You can name any price, and I'll pay you the highest international rate per hour for a psychologist."
"I'll be right there!" Upon hearing about Anabel's unusual behavior, Sophie wasted no time.
She wanted to go and see, not for Hurley's money, but out of concern for the little girl's safety.
Sophie stepped on the gas pedal, reaching the Walton's residence at the fastest speed.
The housekeeper welcomed her at the door, "You must be Miss Hades."
"Mr. Ridge, where is Anabel?" Sophie walked directly inside.
Being called Mr. Ridge, the housekeeper was momentarily surprised. How did Miss Hades know that everyone called him Ridge? Perhaps Hurley had mentioned it to Miss Hades, so he didn't think much about it. "She's upstairs."
Sophie nodded and went straight upstairs.
The housekeeper was about to guide her, but Sophie seemed familiar with the place and went upstairs directly.
Upstairs, Sophie saw Hurley.
"Hurley, where's Anabel?"
"In her room." No matter how he knocked on the door or spoke, it remained closed.
"Anabel, Aunt Sophie is here to see you. Can you please open the door?" Stephen knocked again.
Stephen, having spent the night sleepless and filled with anxiety, had bloodshot eyes and a bit of stubble on his chin. He looked somewhat worn out.
Sophie pushed aside the tall Hurley, saying, "Step aside!"
Then she approached the door and lightly knocked, "Anabel, can you hear Auntie? Auntie is here to play with you. Can you please open the door?"
Perhaps the child inside heard the voice, as the door opened suddenly.
Anabel was crying, and she rushed over to hug Sophie.
Sophie's heart also ached. She lowered her voice, speaking very gently, "What happened, little one? Can you tell Auntie?"
