As Sophue led Anabel downstairs, Hurley was seated on the sofa downstairs, seemingly engrossed in work.
The tasks piled up from yesterday remained unhandled. Finally, with a bit of time available, he hadn't rested at all. Hurley quickly dealt with official matters and planned to visit Jake at the hospital afterward.
"Hurley." Sophie stood at the stairwell, calling out to him.
Hurley looked up and saw Sophie with the child.
Although Sophie and Anabel hadn't met many times, they looked incredibly close, and Sophie seemed to radiate a special glow.
"Anabel has something to tell you." Sophie brought Anabel down.
In Anabel's hand was a piece of paper, handed over to Hurley.
"These are the words Anabel wants to say, all written here. I didn't read them!" Sophie didn't know what Anabel had written. She spent a long time writing it.
Hurley took it, opened it, and read the words on it.
The further he read, the tighter his brows furrowed.
A kind of hostility even erupted on his face, and his crimson eyes looked particularly terrifying.
"Are these all true?"
Anabel nodded, then fearfully hid behind Sophie
"What's wrong?" Sophie didn't know what Anabel had written.
"It's nothing. I'll be right back. You watch Anabel for me." After saying this, Hurley stood up and walked outside.
Holding the paper tightly, his expression was very solemn, and his face was full of hostility. People who saw him dared not even breathe.
Hurley took out his phone and dialed Matilda's number, "Where are you?"
"Hurley, I'm at home!" Matilda was delighted, thinking Hurley missed her.
"Bring Stephen to the hospital!"
"Okay, I'll bring him over right away. Hurley, I heard from Stephen that..." Matilda's words were cut off as Hurley directly hung up the phone.
After hanging up, Matilda's heart continued to beat rapidly, and she quickly dressed herself up.
She hadn't slept well last night, so Matilda applied a lot of makeup to cover her dark circles.
She didn't know why Hurley asked her to bring Stephen to the hospital, but as long as Hurley said so, she would do it.
When Matilda arrived at the hospital, Hurley was in Jake's hospital room.
The atmosphere was oppressively low, and as soon as she entered, she felt a chill.
Looking at Hurley , who was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed, he already exuded a formidable aura, not to mention that he now seemed even colder.
"Le.. Mr. Walton, why did you ask me and the child to come?" Matilda was unsure.
Hurley looked at Stephen. "How did Jake fall down the stairs?"
Stephen hid behind Matilda. "Uncle, what do you mean? Jake fell down by herself. If you don't believe it, ask her yourself!"
"I was downstairs at the time, and there were people who saw it. Does Uncle think I pushed Jake?"
Stephen had applied oil on the stairs, and there was evidence that it wasn't him who pushed her. Besides, he had cleaned it up afterward, almost as if destroying the evidence.
"What did you do at the stairs and what did you do to Anabel?"
"I don't have an uncle!" Stephen started crying again. "Why doesn't Uncle believe me? I just returned to the country. Why does he think Jake falling down the stairs has something to do with me?"
Jake, not knowing herself, said, "Daddy, is there a misunderstanding about this? I saw Stephen throw the teddy bear into the trash can, so I got anxious and slipped."
Jake was an honest child, naturally speaking the truth. He thought he had accidentally fallen.
Hearing Jake's words, Stephen immediately said, "See, he admits it was his own fault. Uncle is biased!"
