"Dear sister, it's me, Erika," Erika murmured, kneeling before Sophie.
Sophie's face showed a smile, but her eyes were cold and indifferent.
Erika had never called her 'sister' except when she was acting. But now that she's kneeling in front of her and calling her sister, it was ironic no matter how you looked at it.
"I don't have a sister," Sophie declared, giving Erika a swift kick.
Terror flashed in Erika's eyes. She'd heard of the Jordan family's sudden downfall and feared the same fate for the Michaels family.
Crossing Hurley was a dangerous move.
"Sister, I was wrong. I was misled by rumors and made a huge mistake. You can hit or scold me, but please spare the Michaels family. Spare me," Erika pleaded.
Sophie was puzzled by Erika's confession. She didn't even know what Erika had done.
She glanced at Hurley. It was obvious that this was Hurley's handiwork. This must be connected to last night's events.
When she woke up yesterday, she heard that Hurley had gone to find Matilda. Now that Matilda was kneeling in front of her like a stranger, didn't Hurley feel a little bit distressed?
Or had Hurley merely summoned Matilda to apologize today?
"If I dirty my hands hitting you, why don't you do it yourself until I'm satisfied?" Sophie retorted.
Erika bit her lip, clearly insulted by Sophie.
But at this time, she could only follow. She could only raise her hand and reluctantly began slapping herself.
"Pa." Erika's self-inflicted slap was too light.
"Are you slapping mosquitoes out of your face? Hit yourself properly!" Sophie demanded.
Erika, her face reddening from the repeated slaps, struck herself harder.
"Pah!" This time, the sound was satisfyingly loud.
Erika just hit herself again and again, and soon her face became red and swollen, but Sophie didn't say stop, and she didn't dare to stop.
As Erika continued to self-inflict, Sophie turned to Stella. It was now her turn.
Stella, proud and defiant, hesitated to apologize.
"She's here to apologize. What's your excuse?" Sophie interjected.
Stella shot Sophie a venomous glare as if she was going to pounce on Sophie and tear her into pieces in the next second.
"You vixen! You seduced my second brother, leading to his disownment. You'll face retribution!"
Without a word from Sophie, Hurley's stern voice broke the tension. "Do you still not understand your mistake?"
Stella was silenced by Hurley's commanding tone.
She knew Hurley wouldn't hesitate to sever ties with his own family for insubordination.
So Stella knew that if she didn't bow her head now, she would most likely be expelled from the Walton family.
She can't even rely on her father to protect her. After all, the other branches of the Walton family now rely on Hurley to gain a foothold in the capital.
Realizing her position was precarious, she relented.
"I'm sorry, Sophie," Stella said through gritted teeth.
Sophie looked at the humbled girl, "Why are you apologizing to me?"
"I held a grudge against you, humiliated you, and criticized your dress as fake. I didn't know you were S, and you publicly shamed me on your official website. We're even now," Stella said hastily.
"And I regret damaging your skirt... I didn't do anything else. I'm truly sorry."
Catching Hurley's eye, she quickly added, "Though I wasn't directly involved, I understand I've caused you harm. I apologize."
