Sophie looked at her son, finding him incredibly cute.
She wished Jake could be more like Stephen, willing to sit and talk with her.
"By the way, Mommy, did you actually sleep with the big bad guy last night? Did he force you? Am I going to have a little brother or sister soon?"
Damon's innocent questions startled Sophie, causing her to hit the brakes abruptly. "Where did you hear that?"
"That's what the big bad guy said," Damon replied.
Sophie was shocked. What on earth had Hurley told her son last night to cause such a misunderstanding?
"Something did happen with Mommy last night, but it has nothing to do with Hurley!" Sophie clarified.
"But didn't the big bad guy bring you here this morning?" Damon asked, eyes wide.
"Yes, but it's not what you're thinking."
"So, you didn't sleep together last night?" Damon's curiosity was evident.
Sophie hesitated before admitting, "...Yes."
"Then why don't I have any younger siblings? People on TV always have kids when they sleep together," Damon questioned.
Sophie sighed, "Baby, don't believe everything you see on TV."
She then gave Damon a simplified explanation of how babies are made. Even though Stephen was present, there was nothing inappropriate about it.
"But you must remember, in the future, don't take girls out casually or treat them badly even if they agree. I'm not saying this because Mommy is conservative. I'm saying this because it's important to be responsible and make sure you both have legal protections," Sophie cautioned.
Damon nodded, a hint of disappointment in his eyes. "So, I won't have any younger siblings?"
He had wanted a younger brother or sister because Jake had mentioned the possibility of being an older brother while Anabel would be the older sister.
Sophie drove Hurley's car back to her home. When Hurley returned from comforting Stephen, he noticed the car was gone.
Hurley called Sophie, and she informed him she had driven it back herself.
Returning to the villa, Hurley found Stephen and said, "When someone does something wrong, they should face the consequences and take responsibility. Your mother is no exception, and neither are you."
"Stephen, do you ever feel the world is unfair to you?" Hurley asked.
Stephen nodded, and Hurley continued, "Think about others who may be less fortunate. There are children in this world who can't even afford to eat. You are much luckier than them."
"I don't expect you to change the world, but I hope you grow up to be an honorable person."
Although he wasn't sure Stephen fully grasped his words, Hurley was determined to instill these values in him.
With his eldest brother gone, this responsibility fell to him.
To Hurley, both Jake and Stephen were equally important.
Stephen looked down and asked, "Uncle Hurley, can you forgive my mother?"
Hurley responded, "The decision to forgive your mother isn't mine to make."
Stephen lowered his head, saying, "I understand."
It had to be that woman!
Stephen realized Jake might have the woman's contact details in his phone. Pretending to go upstairs to see Jake, Stephen discreetly accessed Jake's phone, found Sophie's number, and saved it.
