"Jake? Jake?" Sophie came to the door and knocked first.
There was not a sound to be heard and no one came to open the door.
"Jake?"
Could it be that she had gone to the wrong house or something? Sophie checked the number of the house and it was, in fact, the right one.
She called Jake on the phone and the call went through, but after a short while the phone was hung up again.
Apparently, someone had hung up.
Sophie could sense that something was wrong, so she started to knock harder on the door. "Jake! Jake!!!
Sophie's heart pounded in her chest. She had to find Jake. Knowing Matilda's cruel nature, Sophie dreaded to think of what might happen to Jake.
She attempted to open the door but found it too sturdy to budge.
Her eyes darted around and landed on a small balcony. It was a risky move, but she could potentially jump across to the other side.
The height was daunting, and a miscalculated jump could be fatal.
Yet, in her desperate state, Sophie didn't hesitate. She braced herself against the wall, ready to leap.
Just then, she noticed the kitchen door was ajar. Without a second thought, she entered through the kitchen door.
"Jake!" Sophie called out as she moved from the kitchen into the living room.
Upon seeing the scene in the living room, Sophie's eyes widened in shock.
"Jake!" Without wasting a moment, Sophie sprinted towards him.
There was so much blood in the living room. Mathilda was also leaning on the sofa with her eyes closed, holding the child in her arms.
She seemed to no idea if the child had any life signs, and it was as if the child was dying.
How could Sophie care so much? Seeing the horrible scene, Sophie's heart felt as if it had skipped a beat.
Without even thinking about whose blood it was, Sophie sprang into action.
Matilda, perhaps startled by the noise, opened her eyes. The moment they met Sophie's eyes, they glowed a murderous red.
She started tightening their grip around the child's neck and staring menacingly at Sophie.
"Matilda, stop! You are going to kill him!" Sophie acted quickly, grabbing Matilda's wrist and twisting it violently.
The sickening snap of a broken wrist echoed through the room, followed by Matilda's painful scream.
Sophie, wary of further danger, struck Matilda across the back of the neck with the edge of her hand. With that, Matilda was knocked unconscious.
Drenched in blood, Stephen lay free from Matilda's grip. Sophie quickly checked his pulse, and although it was weak, she was relieved to find a faint heartbeat.
But there was nothing she could do about it, even administering first aid will be a challenge for Sophie, given the child's state.
Understanding the gravity of the situation and the urgency of Stephen's condition, Sophie immediately called 911 for emergency medical assistance and notified the police.
Meanwhile, Sophie knelt beside Stephen, using her torn clothing to stop the bleeding and desperately trying to keep him stable.
"Jake, don't be afraid. I'm here to help you," Sophie whispered.
She wasn't sure where exactly Jake had been injured, but losing too much blood could be life-threatening for him.
Just then a voice called from outside, "Stephen, are you home?"
It was Hurley. Sophie looked up, panic in her eyes. "Someone's here!"
Still administering first aid, Sophie knew that Hurley had a key to the house. He quickly unlocked the door and burst in, facing the horrifying scene before him.
Sophie knelt on the floor and attended to Stephen, who was drenched in blood.
Beside him lay Matilda, unconscious.
"Save Jake! Save Jake! Hurry!" Sophie cried, her voice filled with desperation.
Hurley didn't even have a chance to think about why Sophie was talking about Jake.
He immediately ran in their direction and scooped Stephen into his arms. "We need to get to the hospital fast!"
Sophie followed close behind, "I'll come with you. I can help with first aid until we get there."
They quickly got into Hurley's car, with Sophie continuing to apply pressure to Stephen's wounds as Hurley drove to the hospital.
Upon arrival, Stephen was rushed into the emergency room for immediate medical attention.
