She also heard about what was happening at home. Although she was abroad during those years, her mother called her often.
She also knew that Sophie had come back from the dead and had suddenly returned six years later, wanting to take everything the family had with her.
Although Maya had a disdain for the Michaels' things, they were her mother's and sister's and had nothing to do with Sophie. Why had Sophie come back to steal them?
Maya also hadn't expected to see Sophie here, but what was Sophie doing here? This is the office of the Dean, and not everyone can come here!
The Dean is waiting for Night. Could it be that Sophie is Night?
Impossible!
In just a second, Maya rejected this idea. Sophie had no understanding of medical skills whatsoever, so how could she be Night?
And she remembered that when she was a child, before the death of Sophie's mother, she had apparently not been allowed to read medical books or study medicine.
Maya had no idea if Sophie recognized her, and there was no way she could tell Sophie that she was back in the States. She quickly put on her sunglasses and walked past Sophie.
After passing, however, Maya did not rush to leave. Instead, she hid around the corner to have a look at what Sophie and the dean were talking about.
When Sophie saw the figure on her way out, she had a flash of memory of it, but she couldn't really remember where she had seen her before.
But her pretense was that it was her, and she was brave enough.
As the Dean came out to rescue Night, he naturally saw Sophie at the door.
"Who are you? What do you want?" Dr. Sanders's tone was rather abrupt and not very friendly.
"I'm..." Sophie was about to say that she was Night, but before she could continue, the Dean's phone rang. It was someone else who was calling to inquire about Night.
Sophie waited patiently while the Dean answered the call. She couldn't help but be surprised when she heard the enthusiastic reply he gave her.
"She is truly extraordinary. Her demeanor and grace set her apart from others," the Dean gushed, leaving Sophie confused.
Was the Dean talking about her? She didn't feel particularly special or different from anyone else.
"She's also incredibly intelligent and quick-witted. I was impressed with her from the first moment I met her," the Dean went on, leaving Sophie even more confused.
There was no need for such excessive praise; she was just an ordinary person.
"She speaks with great eloquence. I wonder what kind of a family would be able to raise such an admirable individual," the Dean added.
"All right, all right, I won't keep you any longer. I have someone else waiting. I'm not sure who he is or why he's here," Sophie interrupted, feeling increasingly confused.
Did the Dean mean Night and not her? She had thought the Dean had recognized her right away.
After the Dean ended the call, Sophie asked curiously, "Have you met Night?"
The elderly dean looked at her quizzically and asked, "Who are you?"
Sophie suddenly remembered the woman she had just seen and asked, "Was the person who just left Night?"
If Night was here, who would dare impersonate her?
The elder Dean furrowed his brow and scolded, "You nosy girl, did you eavesdrop on my phone call?"
"I wasn't eavesdropping. You spoke out loud and didn't try to hide it. What was the woman saying? How can you be sure it's Night?" Sophie asked.
Dr. Sanders was not easily fooled. He looked at Sophie intently, "Are you friends with Night as well?"
Sophie shook her head, "No, I don't."
"Then who are you?" the Dean asked.
Sophie simply replied, "I am a family member of the patient."
