Sophie couldn't believe this fact. She thought that Jake and Matilda had a good relationship because Jake didn't like her and felt that she had ruined his family.
But in fact, that wasn't Jake at all. That was Matilda's son, Stephen!
That's why the child hates her so much, resists her, and says such things to her.
So what she saw in the kindergarten last time was actually Stephen who had just gone to school.
But she mistakenly thought it was Jake.
Only now did Sophie realize how wrong she was. How could she admit that she got the wrong child?
However, Sophie was very happy to know that Jake was very good, which meant that Jake actually didn't hate her.
But Sophie didn't regret saving Stephen. After all, it was a life and the child was innocent.
The grudge between her and Matilda did not involve anyone else, let alone such a young and innocent child.
If Matilda didn't like Jake and treated Jake so cruelly, Sophie could barely understand. After all, she was not her own child.
But Stephen was born by Matilda himself! How could she be so cruel towards her own son!
"Jake...Jake..." Sophie, who knew the truth, was a little incoherent.
"Why do you care so much about Jake, and why did you tell the dean that Jake is your son?"
Hurley felt that Sophie cared too much about Jake.
"I'm concerned about what's wrong. Jake and Stephen are such good friends, shouldn't I be concerned?"
"And if I didn't say it was my son, how could the dean tell me who Night is."
This explanation is quite reasonable. Hurley remarked, "Night was kind this time."
Sophie found his statement puzzling. "What do you mean by that? Wasn't Night kind before?"
"Anabel has been unwell. I've been trying to contact Night for years without any success," Hurley explained.
Sophie realized her mistake. She had assumed Hurley's attempts to contact Night were related to Matilda and had instructed her assistant not to respond. Had she known it was for her daughter, she would have certainly reached out herself.
Hurley continued, "Eventually, I offered her five percent of the company's shares to persuade her to help Anabel improve her health."
Sophie felt a pang of guilt. At that time, she had only wanted to deceive Hurley due to her resentment towards him. Night's unconditional assistance this time seemed quite unusual in that context.
Rubbing her hands nervously, Sophie said, "Perhaps Night is a good person after all."
"You don't know her; she's not as good as you think," Hurley countered.
Although Hurley hadn't interacted much with Night, he found her quite challenging to deal with.
Sophie retorted, "Why wouldn't she be a good person? She saved Stephen's life, which speaks volumes about her character."
Hurley remained skeptical. "That doesn't necessarily make her a good person. She might have other intentions."
Sophie felt Hurley had misunderstood Night, but she didn't dwell on it. After all, there was no point arguing with him.
"So, how is Stephen doing? I'd like to visit him," Sophie said, switching the topic. Though Stephen wasn't Jake, he was still her patient. Being able to pull a patient back from the brink of death was a gratifying and proud accomplishment for her.
Rather than choosing a traditional hospital role, Sophie had opted for research, hoping that her work could save even more lives.
