However, when he received the call, Hurley couldn't care less about Matilda.
He directly waved his hand, "Take her away."
Since she was mad, she would go where she should go.
Matilda rushed to come over and hug Hurley's thighs, begging to change her fate. "Hurley, you can't do this to me, I was really just confused for a moment before I did this to Stephen. I know it's wrong. Please give me another chance! Please!"
However, Hurley was unmoved, he left with big strides.
Matilda in the back went completely mad. She roared loudly, "You will definitely regret this!"
Hurley took the car keys and rubbed his brow, his face already had a tired and weary look on it.
Matilda's words didn't have any effect on him, and he wouldn't regret it.
On the other side of the street, Jessica accompanied Sophie and waited for Hurley to come over.
By the time Sophie pulled out her cell phone, she had already sent a text message to Hurley. "It was my friend who called just now, and she's completely wasted. You don't have to come over, I have a driver here".
But on Hurley's side, there was no message received.
"Jessica, you go back first."
"No, I'll wait for your driver."
Sophie felt that Hurley wouldn't necessarily come over. In fact, in her heart, she had no idea, and she didn't know if she hoped Hurley would come over or not.
The cars in front of her went by one after the other, and when a car stopped, Sophie went to look, but none of them was Hurley.
After about ten minutes, Jessica's agents all arrived, Sophie stuffed Jessica into the car, "You go back now."
"Then you have to wait for him! Remember to report to me all the details later! All the details!" Jessica slurred.
Sophie had no idea that she would be waiting because she wasn't in the waiting game.
She'd been waiting for Hurley too often, she'd been waiting for Hurley to come home every day, but Hurley never came back.
After another ten minutes, Sophie had the realization that it had actually been ten minutes of foolish waiting.
She lifted her feet, ready to walk over to hail a ride back home. Just as a cab stopped and Sophie opened the door, ready to get in, a voice came from behind her, calling her name.
"Sophie!"
Sophie turned to see the car parked over to the other side and the person rushing over to her.
The night was dim, and the streetlight hit the man's face, casting a shadow over his features.
The person who was initially in a hurry was now running late.
"Sorry for the wait," Hurley said as he smoothly handed some cash to the taxi driver as an apology.
The driver, who had received his fare before even starting the journey, responded cheerfully, "No worries! Just make sure you pick up your girlfriend on time next time."
"I'm not his girlfriend!" Sophie quickly clarified.
The driver gave them a knowing look and chuckled, "Sure, sure, just calm her down when she's upset."
Hurley nodded in agreement, "Got it."
Sophie, puzzled, asked, "Got what?"
As the taxi drove away, Hurley approached Sophie, "I'm sorry I'm late."
"You didn't have to come. Jessica was just drunk and made a random call. Didn't you see the message I sent you?"
Hurley admitted he hadn't noticed the message; he had come as soon as Jessica called. But even if Sophie had told him not to come, he would have still shown up.
"Let's go, I'll take you home," Hurley said.
Sophie remained standing still, her gaze fixed on Hurley's tired face. Hurley may have spent some time with her last night but he hadn't slept for long. Today, he had been busy and he had a lot of things going on his plate.
Dark circles were starting to show under his eyes, and his face bore signs of fatigue.
"Hurley, why did you come?" Sophie asked.
Clearly, he was already exhausted. Why had he driven all this way just to pick her up?
