When Sophie woke up the next day, she realized that it was already eight o'clock.
She sat up, and she was the only one on the bed.
Why did she have the illusion that Hurley had come here last night?
Sophie got up quickly, and the butler from last night was having someone prepare clean toiletries.
By the time Sophie went downstairs, breakfast was already being prepared downstairs, and the fragrant crab buns were especially delicious.
However, there didn't seem to be anyone in the house but her. Not to mention that Jake, Anabel, and even Hurley's shadow were nowhere to be seen.
"Where are the kids?" Sophie asked.
The housekeeper replied, "The young master and the young miss haven't returned home yet, miss."
"And Hurley?" Sophie inquired.
"The master left early this morning. It seems the company had an emergency," the butler informed her.
Sophie took a bite of the soup dumpling and chewed it as if it were Hurley!
What kind of company has an 'emergency' at this time in the morning? Could it be that he couldn't seal a deal because of his antics and decided to escape early?
"When are Jake and Anabel coming back?" Sophie asked, trying to hold back her frustration.
"The old lady said they could stay with her for a few more days," the housekeeper replied.
So they wouldn't be back for a few days.
That Hurley! Playing these games with her!
The next time Sophie saw Hurley, she vowed to settle the old scores along with the new ones!
At the Michaels mansion, the patriarch, Daniel Michaels, had been absent for several days.
Emily was on the phone with Maya, unaware that Maya had already returned to the United States. Still, she eagerly awaited her daughter's return.
Meanwhile, Erika's belly grew larger by the day, and her swollen eyes resembled those of a crying pig.
Soon, the butler approached Emily with urgency, whispering that Mrs. Josephine Shaw was at her door.
Emily harbored a deep grudge against the Shaw family. They had previously looked down upon the Michaels family and had shown little regard for them. So why were they visiting now?
Moments later, the Mrs. Shaw entered the room, "Emily! It's so nice to see you!"
Quickly changing her demeanor, Emily replied, "Mrs. Shaw! Please, come in."
Mrs. Shaw, her hair now white and her face devoid of its former sternness, wore a melancholy expression.
"I have something to discuss right away. I've come here today to propose marriage. Regarding the dowry I mentioned earlier, our Shaw family is willing to add another fifty million dollars. All we ask is that Erika marry into our family," Mrs. Shaw explained.
She made no mention of Adrian's situation. Since Adrian could no longer have children, the child in Erika's womb would be the only heir in the Shaw family. Regardless of the circumstances, Mrs. Shaw was determined to marry Erika into her family.
Upon hearing this proposal, Erika was naturally inclined to agree. "But Adrian doesn't want to marry me..."
"That's because he's been led astray by that vixen and can't see clearly. Erika, with me here, I've already accepted you as a daughter-in-law of the Shaw family," Mrs. Shaw explained.
"And what about Adrian's feelings for Sophie?" Erika pressed.
"You also knew how much misery that Hades girl caused our family. She's still in the hospital. If you agree, I will arrange for you to get the marriage license first. After Adrian is released from the hospital, we can have a proper wedding."
"I'm ready!" Erika exclaimed, her excitement obvious.
"Erika!" Emily interjected sternly, "Speak less."
Turning her attention to the old lady, Emily continued, "Mrs. Shaw, while we do have feelings for Adrian, he hurt Erika badly the last time they met. She was deeply affected. Do you think fifty million dollars can heal the wounds in my daughter's heart?"
"Then what are your terms?" Mrs. Shaw inquired.
"One hundred million," Emily asserted boldly, "but this money must remain confidential, known only to the two of us, and it must be deposited in my account."
After considering the proposal, Mrs. Shaw nodded, "Agreed.
