"As well? Do you think I will agree to that? You must be joking! You will have to clear things up with my grandfather and your grandmother first. There is no relationship between the two of us, let alone any talk of marriage."
Sophie's eyes narrowed, her stare cold and piercing. "And don't think I've forgotten the last time you lied about waiting for Jake and Anabel, only to vanish on your own."
Hurley pressed a button on his desk phone. "Send two cups of coffee to the president's office."
"I didn't tell your grandmother, but you were there when she called that night. You know that she and my grandfather have been trying to set us up for a long time. Now you're here and you're acting all defensive. Are you trying to deflect attention from yourself?" Sophie retorted angrily.
"Hurley, you! You're too shameless!" Sophie accused.
Hurley smirked. "You called my name in your sleep. Are you telling me you're not interested?"
"I called your name?" Sophie was astonished. How could she not know that herself?
Reminded by Hurley, Sophie tried her best to remember the events of that night. She had fallen asleep in the master bedroom and had a dream that Hurley had entered the room and stayed with her.
Was it not a dream?
Was that actually true?
"Thinking about it?" Hurley teased, enjoying Sophie's confused expression. "So, Sophie, do you have feelings for me? Is that why you play these games?"
"I can see that your fantasies are really starting to get worse!" Sophie's face turned red with anger.
She had come here to confront him, but now it felt as if she was the one who was being defensive.
Did she really call Hurley's name that night?
And she didn't say anything else, did she?
"Don't dodge my last question, did you -"
Before Hurley could finish his words, he was interrupted by a melodious phone tone.
It was Sophie's cell phone ringing. She looked at the screen and saw an unknown number.
Not wanting to let Hurley finish his sentence, Sophie answered the phone without thinking, "Hello?"
"Sophie, it's me. The voice on the other end said.
Recognizing the voice, Sophie's heart sank.
"Adrian?"
She shouldn't have taken the call.
She had blocked Adrian's number and this must be him calling from another number.
Just as Sophie was about to hang up, Adrian pleaded urgently, "Sophie, please don't hang up!"
"I know you don't want to see me, and you probably don't want to hear my voice again, but I just want to tell you one thing: Even though I'm married now, in the future, if there's an event that you need me for, know that you can always reach out to me. You will always be the most important person in my heart.
Adrian, on the other side of the phone, confessed his thoughts and waited patiently to hear Sophie's answer and her voice again.
However, the voice that answered from the other end of the phone was not the one he was expecting.
"She won't need you anymore." The man's voice was cold and hard.
Adrian froze for a moment, instantly recognizing the voice. "You're Hurley!"
"With me here, what makes you think that Sophie will need you?" The voice of the man was full of self-confidence and an undercurrent of tension, as well as a hint of mockery directed at Adrian.
Before Sophie even had a chance to react to his call of Adrian's name, Hurley had already taken big steps and snatched the cell phone out of Sophie's hand.
"Hurley, give it back!" Sophie tried to grab the phone back, but Hurley held her down with one hand and pulled her close with his other arm.
However, Hurley was holding Sophie down with one hand and was circling around Sophie in his arms, and then he was continuing to say in a cold voice to Adrian on the phone.
"Since you are getting married, Mr. Shaw, I suggest you behave like a decent human being. If you dare to bother Sophie again in the future, I guarantee you will spend the rest of your life in the hospital." Hurley's voice was icy as he spoke into the phone.
