"What kind of nonsense are you talking about in front of the child? I just made a stopgap measure. You are just a little better than that Adrian guy. That's like being the best among the mediocre. Stop trying to put on a show!"
Hurley remained unfazed. "It seems Ms. Hades has pretty high standards."
If he had been a simpleton, no one in this world would have been able to catch Sophie's eye.
"Certainly."
"Then I'm curious, what kind of a person does your ex-husband have to be to be able to catch someone like you, Ms. Hades?"
Sophie and the children fell silent.
"He's a bastard. I was blind before I fell for him." Sophie replied, trying to avoid any further mention of her ex-husband in front of Hurley.
Grabbing a child in each hand, Sophie declared, "Come on, kids, let's go!"
With a child on either side of her, Damon walked confidently next to her. Seeing this, Hurley felt his heart fill with something.
He saw the message that Jake had sent him. When Jake said that Sophie had taken him shopping at the mall, he had been in a business meeting. As much as he wanted to rush over and join them, the matter at hand was one of real urgency.
But when Jake sent word that other men were getting close to Sophie, he rethought his priorities. What was work compared to Sophie's safety? If something was going to happen to Sophie, he couldn't even think about it.
Determined, he stepped on the gas and rushed over as fast as he could.
It happened that he heard everything Sophie said when she arrived at the mall.
He could hear her rejecting Adrian and praising him.
In fact, what Sophie said about being annoying was all wrong. She might have a tough exterior, but she also had a soft heart and she was just as interested in him as he was in her, but she didn't want to admit it yet.
Looking at the people in front of him, Hurley quickly followed them and took Anabel's hand.
When you look at it this way, it really does look like a family of five.
Sophie originally wanted to talk to Hurley about something and wanted to go back now to talk business with Hurley.
However, Hurley looked at the time and saw that it was only eight o'clock, so there was no rush.
So Hurley took his kids on another shopping spree.
Sophie, however, had no desire to go shopping. "Why don't we go back?" Sophie finally asked.
"Don't you ladies love to shop?" Hurley replied.
"We've been here for almost two hours and it's almost ten!"
Hurley looked at his watch with a deep look in his eyes. "Oh, right. It really is time to go back. Do we still have to talk about this?"
"Yes, let's talk."
Much time had passed by the time we returned to the Walton family mansion.
The three children went upstairs as soon as they got home, and then they hid at the top of the stairs to watch Sophie and Hurley.
"Do you think Mommy will stay here tonight?" Damon whispered.
Jake and Anabel nodded in agreement. "I think Daddy wants to keep Mommy. Otherwise, he wouldn't have taken us shopping at the mall for so long."
After all, Damon was Hurley's son; he could see through his father's intentions.
His daddy doesn't like shopping at all, and he never goes shopping with anyone. But today, he actually spent two hours shopping, apparently stalling for time to be with his mommy.
After talking for so long, it's almost midnight. If Mommy wants to leave, Daddy might take the opportunity to convince her to stay.
"That big bad guy is pretty sneaky!" Damon grumbled.
Sophie approached Hurley to talk business. "Have you heard about the situation with Michaels' stock?"
"Yes, I have," Hurley replied.
"Daniel believed the shares were in your possession, so he wanted to buy them from you. I no longer wish to hold his shares and would like to sell them. In the meantime, his stock price has gone up, but Daniel doesn't have much cash on hand. He'll probably use the villa as collateral to secure the funds, and Emily will definitely try to buy it."
"Whoever offers the highest price will win. I stand to make a substantial profit," Sophie mused, her eyes glittering with calculation.
Hurley looked at her with narrowed eyes. He found the expression on Sophie's face, full of cunning and strategy, surprisingly endearing.
"You went to great lengths to acquire those shares. Why the change of heart now?" Hurley asked.
"I acquired the shares because the person who founded Michaels was my mother, and they all rightfully belonged to my mother. However, I later realized that Michaels has evolved and is no longer the company my mother founded. Daniel has tarnished its reputation. And if my mother were still here, she wouldn't want that either.
"And while Michaels is back from the dead, it's vulnerable to short selling. If they try to buy back the stock, they may end up with a hollow one."
"Mr. Walton, as a prominent figure in the business world, you must understand what I'm saying, right?" Sophie raised her chin and locked eyes with Hurley.
Of course, Hurley clearly understood Sophie's plan: to short the Michaels family and have the Michaels partners buy back the stock at an inflated price. It was a bold move.
But it would allow Sophie to profit while leaving the buyers of Michaels's stock in a precarious position.
"What are you going to do?" Hurley inquired.
"Just a simple favor. Daniel believed that you were the majority shareholder of Michaels and wanted to transfer the shares into your name."
"And what do I get out of it?"
Hurley was a shrewd businessman and demanded honesty, even from Sophie. He saw this as a rare opportunity to profit from her.
"You have my sincere gratitude," Sophie offered.
Hurley raised an eyebrow. "What good is gratitude? Can it be used to buy food or pay bills?" He asked teasingly.
See, you're being crass. You're not fighting for food or money, so why be so petty?"
I can help you," Hurley began, crossing his legs. "But I have conditions."
What conditions? I won't marry you or become Jake and Anabel's stepmother."
Sophie was convinced that Hurley wouldn't ask for the impossible. This was a very simple matter, and it might not be a big deal to someone of Hurley Walton's status. But if Hurley made things difficult on purpose, Sophie would not agree.
At worst, she would just make it clear and tell Daniel that the shares were in his hands.
"I remembered that I was at your beck and call for over three months. And I have been true to my word. How about repaying me by taking care of me personally for three months and being my personal assistant?" Hurley asked with a twinkle in his eye.
"No! Who knows if you will make things difficult for others." Sophie refused. "Find someone else."
"I remember that when you first came to Tbilisi you were working with the Walton Group. If the cooperation continues, you will work in the Walton Group and I will help you. How does that sound?"
If she worked in the Walton Group, she would have to see Hurley every day.
Sophie was horrified just thinking about it. "No, I don't want to work in your company."
"All right, there's a banquet the day after tomorrow. You'll accompany me as my date and stay close to me. If anyone approaches, pretend to be my girlfriend. That shouldn't be too hard, right?"
Sophie thought for a moment. It won't be that hard.
"Deal," she agreed.
"I'll have a dress sent to you."
"Sounds good," Sophie agreed, relieved to save time on the preparations.
It was only a banquet; as long as she played her part well, everything should go smoothly.
