Sophie and Hurley made a deal, and after a meaningful collaboration, Sophie was ready to go back.
Hurley looked at the time. After the long chat, it was not yet twelve o'clock, and decided that it was not too late.
"Wait a minute," Hurley called out as Sophie started to get up.
"Is there anything else?" Sophie asked as she sat back down.
Leaning against the sofa, Hurley's handsome face looked somewhat shadowed in the dim light. He was sending a message to Jake, instructing him to put Damon to bed.
"Tell me more about the details of your plan regarding Michaels," Hurley asked.
With that, Sophie sat back again and then carefully explained her thoughts.
It was very simple, but Hurley asked a lot of questions. Sophie felt that Hurley was usually talkative today.
However, when she asked for help from others, Sophie would answer whatever Hurley asked.
She even told Hurley about the mansion and what she knew about the relationship between her mother and father.
When she realized how much she'd revealed and how much Hurley was interested in the Michaels family, Sophie decided to back off.
Glancing at the clock, she was surprised to see that it was past one o'clock and almost two.
"It's getting late; I should go," Sophie said.
She hadn't realized they'd been talking for so long.
Unbeknownst to Sophie, Hurley was wearing a mischievous smile. He cleared his throat and said, "It's pretty late, and the driver's finished for the day."
"I can drive myself," Sophie insisted.
"You've had a long day. It's not safe to drive when you're tired," Hurley countered.
Sophie opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, Hurley said, "Besides, Damon might be asleep by now. Will you wake him up?"
"I can go -"
But before Sophie could finish, Hurley stood up, grabbed Sophie by the hand, and pulled her up the stairs.
"It's not the first time you've had a night's sleep here. No need to be so formal. Besides, didn't you want to have breakfast with Jake this morning? Both Jake and Anabel will be home in the morning."
Sophie thought about it and realized that it was indeed a bit tempting to have breakfast with Jake and Anabel.
Unable to resist her children, Sophie agreed. "Okay! But I want to sleep with Anabel tonight!"
Last time, Sophie slept in the master bedroom because Anabel wasn't there.
"Okay," Hurley agreed.
Upstairs, the three kids were still spying. Damon huffed, "That's so sneaky of Daddy to plan like that!"
Jake said, "I just knew Daddy really wanted to keep Mommy. He's not just good at saying it."
Anabel nodded her agreement vigorously from behind. She was definitely on Daddy's side.
The children must have figured out Hurley's plan from the time they spent at the mall, delaying Sophie just to get her to stay the night.
Seeing the two adults going upstairs, the three children hurried back to their rooms.
Anabel quickly returned to her own bed, and two children, Jake and Damon, quickly pretended to be asleep.
Hurley went to Jake's room first and saw that Jake was lying with his eyes closed and his little head exposed, while Damon had his whole body buried under the covers.
"Wouldn't you feel suffocated like that?" Hurley wondered aloud.
Hurley reached out his hand and pulled at the blanket, only to find that Damon was pulling so hard that he couldn't pull at it at all.
"You two haven't really slept, have you?" Hurley said, immediately seeing through the kids' act.
But the boys remained motionless. One of them was lying motionless under the blanket and the other one had his eyes closed as if he was asleep.
Without saying anything, Hurley simply asked Jake to coax Damon out from under the covers, since sleeping like that would be uncomfortable.
As soon as Hurley left, Damon emerged from the blanket.
Sophie went into Anabel's room.
Unlike her brothers, Anabel didn't pretend to be asleep. She was sitting right on the bed. When she saw Sophie, her mouth was open in surprise and her eyes were shining. She was very happy to see her.
"Anabel, it's late. Why aren't you asleep? Can I sleep with you tonight?"
Anabel nodded enthusiastically.
Sophie helped Anabel wash up and then climbed into bed with her, holding her precious daughter close. Anabel's soothing scent enveloped Sophie.
Sophie told stories and sang lullabies until Anabel fell asleep. Then she kissed her gently.
"Good night, Anabel."
The next day, the only people at Sophie's table were Anabel and Hurley.
Damon and Jake said they didn't want to have breakfast and stayed in their rooms.
Of course, Sophie knew that they would not dare to come downstairs because they looked so much alike.
But she found it fascinating. Damon had visited the Walton family many times before. How could he not let anyone see his face?
If the two kids were in the same room, no matter who walked out, they would think it was Jake.
Sophie, of course, did not want to embarrass her child. After breakfast, she left with her son, who hid his face the whole time.
She also brought a sandwich for her son, and Damon happily ate it.
Sophie watched Damon for a moment, wondering if she should speak. In the end, she remained silent.
Sophie went straight to Daniel and told him that Hurley had agreed to sell his shares. Daniel was thrilled but expressed concern that he lacked the necessary funds.
"I have very little liquidity," Daniel admitted. "I can't even afford to buy five percent of the shares, let alone thirty percent."
But Sophie continued to persuade him. "The Walton family is quite wealthy. Hurley really doesn't like the Michaels family. I've already talked to him. He wants to sell his shares in Michaels. Even if you don't buy them, he will sell them to someone else.
Watching Daniel's expression, Sophie added, "Emily might be interested."
"So what if she is? She doesn't have the money!" Daniel doubted Emily's ability to make such a purchase.
"That's not necessarily true. Do you know how much money Emily has quietly transferred over the years?" Sophie revealed that during an earlier audit, she had discovered substantial sums that Emily had transferred under the guise of official business.
"Besides, when Erika and Adrian get married, all the engagement gifts will be under Emily's control."
Daniel replied, "The Shaw family's dowry is only in the tens of millions, not even 100 million. Emily mentioned it's earmarked for Erika."
Sophie nodded knowingly, then tantalized Daniel with more information, "It seems she didn't tell you everything."
"Share what?" Daniel asked. Is there anything else Emily is not telling her?
"The Shaw family later decided to increase the dowry by an additional 100 million so that Erika would agree to marry Adrian. You didn't know that, did you?"
At this point, Daniel was taken aback. If it was true, then Emily could potentially access almost 200 million dollars.
And he didn't know any of this.
"That sneaky woman!" Daniel exclaimed.
Sophie didn't linger, "I have other matters to attend to. Whether you decide to buy Hurley's shares is up to you."
She warned, "If Emily buys them all, the Michaels family will truly have the Michaels family in her control."
