"Mr. Walton, you seem to have been aggressively targeting the Windsor family lately, snatching away several of our business deals. What is the reason for this, Mr. Walton?" Carl asked, feeling both hurt and panicked.
Both Carl and Henry knew that Hurley wanted revenge for Sophie.
Henry turned a blind eye and didn't pursue the matter, but Carl couldn't just shrug it off now that their family was involved.
Although he held no grudge against Sophie, he couldn't understand why Hurley would target the Windsors.
If Sophie is targeting him for revenge, then he has no objection. But Hurley? It doesn't make sense to him.
Sophie, unaware of the situation, was even more confused. Why would Hurley target the Windsor family because of her?
"Mr. Windsor, your statement is false. Other companies have chosen The Walton Group after careful consideration. They chose to work with The Walton Group simply because they felt it was sound and wise. What does that have to do with me?" Hurley retorted.
"You..." Carl grumbled. This is simply unreasonable!
"Instead of accusing me here, you'd better concentrate on improving your business. If you did your job properly, no one would be able to steal your customers.
At this point, Hurley's advantage of having more skills is reflected.
Many would rather risk offending the Windsor family than Hurley.
"I..." Caught off guard by Hurley's assertive response, Carl was left speechless.
Sophie, standing next to him, remained silent, but couldn't shake an uneasy feeling.
Was Hurley targeting the Windsors because of her?
Recalling Hurley's actions since the last banquet - his care during her hospitalization, his pursuit of those who had harmed her, and his subsequent punishment of those individuals - Sophie couldn't deny that their relationship had changed. It had become closer and less strained.
Unwilling to delve into Hurley's motives, Sophie decided she needed a breather. "You two can keep talking. There's a bathroom upstairs; I think I'll go up and rest for a bit."
Sophie suddenly wanted to distance herself from the situation, questioning her decision to come here today as Hurley's female companion. She didn't know if she had made the right choice.
"I have no interest in discussing anything with him. I'll accompany you," Hurley said, showing a rare considerate side.
Realizing that he wasn't the center of attention tonight, Hurley saw this as an opportunity to escape with Sophie and find a secluded place upstairs.
Carl was at a loss for words, a mixture of discomfort and irritation brewing inside him as he watched Sophie and Hurley together.
Seeing the two people he disliked the most in such close proximity only intensified his feelings of contempt for them.
Holding Sophie's hand, Hurley was questioned by her. "Hurley, why are you trying to steal the Windsors' business?"
Instead of giving a straight answer, Hurley responded with a question, "What do you think?"
"I don't know what you're up to, but if this has anything to do with me, I'd rather you stay out of it," Sophie replied, trying to figure out what he meant.
"Why are you defending Carl?" Hurley countered.
"I'm not defending him. I just don't see the need for an escalation of the situation, that's all. Why are you so fixated on him?"
Before the two of them could finish speaking, someone came over. "Mr. Walton! It's really you! Mr. Walton! I haven't seen you in a long time. Do you remember me? We met before overseas."
The place they were in was relatively secluded, but now that there were many people there, it was natural for someone to recognize Hurley.
"Mr. Walton, would you like to meet? It's rare to see you here," the acquaintance asked.
Uninterested in business talk and in no mood for socializing, Hurley declined, "I'm sorry, my girlfriend isn't feeling well. I'll take her upstairs."
"Girlfriend? Mr. Walton has a girlfriend?" The crowd's attention quickly shifted to Sophie.
Caught off guard, Sophie forced a smile. Hurley seemed to have intentionally put her in an awkward position.
