"Mr. Walton's girlfriend is absolutely gorgeous. They make such a perfect couple!" The crowd began to shower Hurley with compliments.
Hurley, not interested in further conversation with the guests, decided it was time to retire. "My girlfriend is a little shy, so I'm going to say goodbye now," he said, trying to make his exit with Sophie.
But before they could escape, another person intercepted them. "I knew something good was going to happen, Mr. Walton, because the magpies were chirping this morning. Seeing you here now is very exciting." The man's face lit up with enthusiasm.
As more and more people gathered around Hurley, he found that he was no longer able to escape the crowd.
"You all continue to enjoy yourselves here. I'm going somewhere else," he said, trying to make a graceful exit.
"Take care," Sophie replied. "I'm not a child."
The cruise ship was very large. Sophie stepped out onto the deck where the sails billowed and the sea breeze whistled. She felt a moment of solitude and peace as she looked out into the dark night.
By this time, most of the guests had arrived. At the entrance to the cruise ship, Alana spotted a familiar face in high heels.
"Maya!" Alana exclaimed happily as she approached and took Maya's hand.
"Maya, I didn't think you were coming!"
"How could I have missed it?" Maya said as she gently rubbed Alana's hair. "You look absolutely beautiful."
"How can I be as beautiful as you? And when did you go back to the United States? My dad even asked you to come home for dinner and discuss things between you and my brother!"
The Harrington family was abroad, and they met Maya by chance. They were deeply impressed by her maturity, diligence, and ability.
Because of this, the Harrington family has always thought of Maya as their own child and even considered Maya to be their future daughter-in-law.
Alana had an older brother, and they had originally planned to return to the United States together. However, due to unforeseen work commitments, he was unable to accompany her.
Knowing that even her own parents were unwilling to support her, Maya was left to forge her own path. In her quest for success, she realized that hard work alone wasn't enough; she needed power and influence. So she worked diligently to build her network abroad, taking advantage of every opportunity that came her way.
Given the influential status of the Harrington family, Maya never missed a chance to improve her position.
Maya smiled warmly, "Alana, where is your aunt?"
"My mother isn't feeling well," Alana replied. "She's been exhausted lately with the preparations for my father's birthday party and hasn't had much rest. She's also feeling a little seasick, so she's resting upstairs."
"I see," Maya nodded. "It's pretty crowded in here today."
"Yes. You know what, Maya? I would have felt uncomfortable being here alone if you hadn't come. I don't know where Carl went. You and he are the only people I know well in the United States."
"By the way, Maya, I met a very handsome man today. His name is Hurley Walton. I liked him when I first met him, but he seemed to be a little cold," Alana went on to say.
The name "Hurley Walton" was not unfamiliar to Maya.
Alana, who was under the protection of the Harrington family, was naive and innocent, but Maya was different.
She knew that this man, Hurley, was cold and ruthless, and his methods were cruel and harsh.
"And he also has a female companion tonight. I think her name is Sophie. And she looks so beautiful." Alana added.
"Sophie?" Maya was taken aback when she heard the name.
Sophie was here?
"Where is she?" Maya inquired.
Alana looked inside and didn't see Sophie. "She should be inside, Maya. The cruise ship leaves soon."
"I see. I'll go inside first and check on your aunt later," Maya said.
With that, Maya made her way inside.
