The palm of her hand was pressed against Hurley's lips, and the temperature of her palm was as hot as Hurley's lips.
Hurley's movements came to a halt as well, and he finally came to his senses.
Because he knew that Sophie didn't want him to, Hurley didn't force himself on her anymore.
One day, Sophie would definitely agree to it, and he was willing to wait for her to tell him so.
"I'm sorry." After he had said that, Hurley picked up Sophie and said: "Let me carry you down the stairs.
"I can walk on my own." Sophie insisted.
"Are you sure your clothes aren't going to fall off?" Hurley lowered his head and looked at Sophie's clothes.
The shoulder strap had just been torn off by him a moment ago. If Sophie were to stand up right now, her clothes might fall off.
"Get out of the car first!" Sophie opened the car door and pushed Hurley out of the car.
Then she put her clothes in order in the car and tried to calm her pounding heart.
What would have happened to them if she hadn't pushed Hurley out of the car?
Sophie's face grew hot. It was only after she had caught her breath that she got out of the car.
From a distance, Sophie noticed that Hurley was standing alone, smoking a cigarette in the dim light of the night.
His silhouette seemed to be lonely, his broad shoulders carrying a subtle weight of melancholy, with only the glint of sparks between his fingers to break the darkness.
It was rare for Hurley to smoke, except when he was preoccupied with something that was weighing on his mind.
Sophie looked at him, an overwhelming desire to go over and wrap him in a comforting embrace.
But she held herself back, worried about the effect her sudden approach might have on Hurley.
Before she could make up her mind about her next move, Hurley sensed her presence and turned to face her. When he caught sight of Sophie, he quickly put out the cigarette he was holding in his hand.
"Are you planning on sleeping in Anabel's room tonight?" Hurley asked.
Considering the lateness of the hour, Sophie thought about it for a moment before she suggested, "Let's use the guest room."
Hurley just nodded and watched as Sophie headed for the guest room. As soon as she was out of sight, he retreated to his study and lit another cigarette, lost in his own thoughts.
Hurley felt as if he had stepped into a Cinderella-like dream. At twelve o'clock at night, all of the glass slippers, the pumpkins, and the carriages had disappeared and everything had returned to its original state.
The light in the study had been on for hours and Sophie, her eyes wide open, had not managed to fall asleep.
After an indeterminate amount of time, Hurley's phone rang. "Mister Walton, we've found someone on the coast of the southeast county that matches the description of the president's wife."
"What?" Hurley's hand shook, the burning cigarette nearly slipping from his grasp.
The voice on the other end provided a brief overview of the situation. In spite of the earlier reports that the young woman had jumped into the sea, Hurley had never given up hope for her.
After all these years, there was finally a clue to the young woman's whereabouts!
"Understood!" Hurley exclaimed as he rose from his chair.
Sophie heard the sound of the study door opening and then closing again. After a moment, she heard the door open and then close again.
Was Hurley leaving?
It was the middle of the night and Sophie was beginning to wonder if there was something urgent going on.
No longer feeling sleepy, Sophie simply sat up and saw the message Amy had sent her.
"Night, you really are amazing. How did you know Hurley was going to give away shares?"
"But he didn't agree to five percent, he only agreed to two percent. So now you have seven percent of the shares in the Walton Group. How much is that going to cost?"
Amy used to think that Hurley was a hard person to get along with and that he was good at calculating and strategizing.
But now she feels that Hurley is a victim.
