At twelve o'clock in the evening, three bodyguards were guarding outside the VIP ward. Inside the ward, the girl finally summoned the courage to emerge from her hiding spot and crawled out from the corner.
Her eyes were still filled with fear of the unfamiliar surroundings, but she tentatively contacted the outside.
Sensing that it seemed safe outside, she opened the door and tried to get out.
The bodyguards hesitated, unsure of how to act, and promptly called Hurley. Hurley just asked them to follow her and not to disturb her. If there was any danger, he would stop her.
The bodyguards had to follow carefully, not daring to get too close.
The surroundings were quiet, and the girl turned around. At the nurse's station over there, she noticed two doctors who were engaged in conversation with the nurses at the nurse's station.
"Dr. Holmes, you are simply a model worker in our hospital," The young nurse praised.
The Dr. Holmes she spoke of was none other than Nathan Holmes.
He won the competition for vice president some time ago and is now the vice president of this hospital.
His ascent was aided significantly by Matilda, who was unfortunately now confined to a mental institution by Hurley due to her attempt to harm Sophie.
If she hadn't been so extreme as to hurt Sophie, she wouldn't have ended up like this.
Fortunately, no one knows about his relationship with Matilda. Who would know that he is Matilda's uncle?
"I'm just doing my job as a doctor. No need to treat me like the hospital's director. We're currently understaffed, and this is simply part of my responsibilities," Nathan showed no airs.
He has a good relationship with other people in the hospital. When it comes to Nathan, everyone thinks he is very good. Otherwise, he would not be able to become the vice president.
However, the woman not far away opened her eyes wide and looked at the man in a white coat over there.
Her mind was so confused. She obviously had nothing and couldn't remember anything, but her first reaction was fear.
That face frightened her, as if there was a big invisible hand strangling her neck, making her unable to breathe. She felt so painful and suffocated.
She wants to run away.
The woman ran down the stairs over there. The upper part was the VIP inpatient department, and the lower part was also the inpatient department.
But down there, it's not so peaceful.
A patient, in a moment of desperation, had managed to smuggle in pesticides. However, she was discovered by the nurse who was doing rounds at night. She rushed to get a drink but was stopped by a group of nurses and doctors.
While the pesticide was confiscated, the patient, intent on ending her life, tried to leap from a nearby window.
The pesticide she snatched was placed not far away, and everyone went to pull her away.
No one saw the bottle of pesticide being quietly taken away.
Even the bodyguards who caught up behind him only saw the back of the woman running away in a hurry, and thought it was because something happened below that stimulated her.
Seeing the woman becoming crazy again, they had no choice but to take her back to the room.
The woman crawled back under the bed, but no one saw the pesticide she hid in her bag.
The woman was still trembling, and her mind was always filled with the face of the man in the white coat she had just seen. She had never seen him before, but her body says she seemed to have seen him somewhere.
It felt like needles were pricking her brain, and she held her head and screamed.
"You must remember these, otherwise you will not be able to survive and die!"
Every fiber of her being urged her to escape, to fight, even to end her life.
But she felt restrained by invisible chains, stripped of even the agency to end her suffering.
Although these memories were all washed away when the woman was released, she couldn't remember anything even if she was in pain. All she could remember were those instilled by unconventional means.
The world felt unbearably cruel. With a sense of finality, she unscrewed the cap of the pesticide bottle, took in its bitter scent, and swallowed its contents without hesitation.
Downstairs in the inpatient department, doctors and nurses finally caught the patient who was about to jump off the building and comforted him.
After finally breathing a sigh of relief, the little nurse was about to get the pesticide she had just placed there but found that the place was empty.
The little nurse's heart skipped a beat and she looked around but couldn't find it.
"Oh no, the pesticide is missing!"
In Sophie's abode, Sophie and Anabel returned to the room early after finishing their meal, while Hurley, on the other hand, was swamped with work.
There are really too many documents, and Chris sent even more files in the afternoon. If he aimed to finish them all, it would likely be well into the early morning hours.
Sophie never fell asleep despite her best efforts. Even though Hurley worked silently, the presence of another person in the house and Hurley's continued work prevented her from drifting off.
Why couldn't she fall asleep?
Sophie forced herself to close her eyes, even counting sheep and dumplings, but she still didn't feel sleepy.
Has Hurley's work been finished? Knowing him, he'd work until everything was done. Does he really think that he is a work machine and the company would grind to a halt without him?
How about reminding him that he doesn't like the light and must turn off the lights at twelve o'clock at midnight?
On the other hand, she did own shares in Walton Group. Every dollar Hurley earned was a dollar for her too. Why should she worry so much?
The two thoughts in my mind were like two villains fighting and arguing. As a result, Sophie couldn't sleep even more.
Hearing the sound of the bedroom door opening, Hurley over there raised his head.
When he saw Sophie, Hurley's cold face gained a hint of softness. "Aren't you asleep yet?"
"Just heading to the bathroom!" Sophie responded with a hint of playfulness in her tone.
Though Hurley was pleased to see Sophie, he couldn't resist teasing, "Don't you have a bathroom in your room?"
If you just go to the bathroom, you don't have to come out at all.
He wondered if perhaps Sophie had come out because she missed him.
"Can't you come out for a drink of water after going to the bathroom?" Sophie walked to the kitchen, took a bottle of iced water from the refrigerator, opened it, and was about to drink it.
She was indeed a little hot as if there was a fire in her heart, and she couldn't calm down no matter what.
Sophie had just put the mouth of the bottle on her lips and before she drank, she heard Hurley's voice.
Hurley came over and took the water from Sophie's hand, but when he saw the lips moistened by the water, his eyes deepened.
"It's not good to drink cold water at night," Hurley remarked. He picked up Sophie's cup not far away, filled it with hot water for Sophie, and then blew it to cool it before handing it to Sophie. "Here. Drink it,"
Sophie looked at the water in the cup. The water was now warm. It could be said that the temperature was just right.
Sophie drank slowly, and the quilt was very big. When she drank, her eyes were exposed, which was very beautiful.
The lips that had been soaked in warm water now looked more red and moist.
Hurley was not thirsty at first, but now his mouth suddenly felt dry.
He took the ice bottle that Sophie had just given and poured it down his throat. The cold liquid slid across his throat and entered his stomach, but the warmth in his heart could not be extinguished no matter what.
"Sophie," Hurley's voice was low and husky, "You once said that if I wanted to kiss you, I must have your consent. Do you still stand by that?"
Sophie blinked in surprise, "Hurley, have you lost your mind?
